Logi Analytics

The pricing of Logi (per server core) is highly attractive for internal-facing use as we can control/predict how many visits we will get to our internal Logi webserver. The fact that the only license required is on the server means that all of our staff can use Logi Info-presented content without restrictions. The option of OEM licensing is also attractive and presents many future options, but will require much more licensing as the webserver will require more cores to handle the level of traffic demanded by OEM usage.

TIBCO Jaspersoft

Well suited for formatting needs and specific export types.
Great for creating static scheduled reports because they are easily editable by non-developers.
Less suited for non-developer level users if looking for an ad hoc tool as I believe they still need to do more work in making the ease-of-use of their ad hoc tool so that it is more accessible to entry-level users to reporting software.

  • The tool is very flexible and powerful. You can add different types of charts and reports for any data structure. Especially the jasper studio has lots of possibilities and a good designed XML structure
  • Results are easy to use even for inexperienced user without IT Knowledge
  • There are lots of export possibilities. Especially important: Excel, PDF and PowerPoint
  • Jaspersoft reports are very lightweight: No extra database needed, they work directly with any database server

  • While many of the advanced report writing features of iReport are available through the GUI, customization requires knowledge of Java. We often need to produce reports that are exportable to Spreadsheets with formulas and formatting intact. As consultants we can produce this quickly for our clients, but the GUI tools are not as friendly as they could be.
  • While Jaspersoft does offer the Talend Integration Server which is a web-app and execution server of it's own, the basic ETL tool requires some sophisticated knowledge to deploy scheduled jobs on Linux or Windows servers. Managing the libraries and status of the jobs can become non trivial as they grow in number.
  • Finding qualified consultant like RLWilliams Consulting can be difficult.

Never have we had a performance issue with it. The "slow" reports are due to the speed of the data being returned from the database, not Jasper.

Good looking reports are hard to develop, I personally didn't have problems with learning but I see that other had those problems and they are developers that are more used to Microsoft products, and didn't have experience with Eclipse. Not satisfied totally with support we had few problems, and questions after training, but didn't have answers and feedback. Community is not that big, you will not be able to find solutions for your problems

It did the job of getting us to our deadline we set for ourselves for initial launch. The customer we launched the product for was also there to learn about it at the same in order to better understand the capabilities. This helped greatly so that the customer was on the same page on what was possible when using jaspersoft. I think most people would not want their customers aware the product they are using is third-party but in this case it was a new experience for us both and so as we learned more about jaspersoft, we both had better communication on what the future road map was for their business needs in BI.

Alternatives Considered

We also utilize Power BI. Power BI is very powerful and integrates well with Office 365/SharePoint. There are many connection points between all MS family products. It doesn't play as nice with other competitors. We've hosted Logi panel/reports on SharePoint that talk to different data sources. Logi helps us sidestep many hurdles that other packages cannot.

The breadth of features and functionality, Ease of access to a vast community of users for support. The key factor after comparing features and functionality was price. The Jaspersoft suite is hands down the best value bay a large margin..

Return on Investment

  • Customer feedback has been overwhelming with regard to the intuitiveness of the application.
  • End users are able to quickly gain insights in minutes about data that previously would have required hours or even days to generate and compare multiple reports.

  • When we demo our Jaspersoft environment to potential clients, their eyes light up and they sit up in their chairs a bit more. A lot of our meetings have ended with with the client very interested in our product due to Jaspersoft.
  • Our existing clients have been very satisfied with the adhoc features of Jaspersoft. We've been able to provide them better access to their data on their terms instead of ours. Of course this turns into a huge win for us.
  • We've always used SQL Server Reporting Services to deliver our reports to our clients. Converting to Jaspersoft has allowed us to generate the reporting layer that our clients demand. They no longer feel like they are settling for what we offer.
