Well Suited - It's very easy for a non-developer to make clear/easily understood important data displaysGreat options for displaying data, UI provides great assistance helping you determine what chart, graph etc., to utilize for peak output.Saves tons of developer hours by allowing non-developers to be able to create and design things.Less Suited - It's not a big fan of displaying 1000 page PDFs but with adequate setup and drill downs, you can turn that huge PDF into 2 pages of what you actually need.

As a finance and accounting professional, I do not have great knowledge of SQL. The advantage of Sigma is that it allows the user without knowledge of SQL to pull raw data, join tables, and build any custom report that they would need. Because it's good for creating reports, Sigma may not be well suited for data visualization.

  • The ability to easily integrate data across multiple data platforms
  • The product is easy to implement and learn
  • The elemental design allows for recycling of concepts and features across various reports and output
  • The security was easy to implement into our existing environment
  • The number of options available for data manipulation and presentation, including Scheduling and Caching data, makes it easy to solve any problem or create content for any request
  • Logi's Support Portal staff are absolutely top notch. They are responsive and knowledgeable. Due to the elemental design (see above), it is easy to communicate concepts to and from Logi Support via code samples and/or sample applications. The sample applications which we have received from Logi Support have formed some of the core concepts of our Logi Developer training!

  • Sigma is highly focused on ease of use. At Teachable, users find its interface far more intuitive and user friendly than the BI platform we were using before.
  • The spreadsheet-style interface and formulas are an easy transition for business users who are not used to working with complex BI platforms.
  • The ability for business users to open any data source that we have granted them permission to access, and to join tables on their own (building their own data models) is incredibly powerful and a huge plus—the Data Team does not need to be a roadblock, as no one has to wait to get access to data sources they need.
  • When we have run up against bugs or shortcomings in the product, the Sigma Team has been extremely responsive. We have seen many improvements already. In less than a year on the platform, and they are clearly iterating on the product at a rapid pace.

Logi Analytics

  • Logi Studio is currently only available on Windows. I understand the backend is ASP.net but it would be nice to have more flexibility in this given their software can also be java-based (we run their software on a Linux server using java).
  • Logi Info keeps all files as XML, which is fine and actually helps in terms of scripting report creation. The issue is that the majority of settings can only live on a server instead of a database. They do allow reports to now live in a database, but other aspects (such as users saving bookmarks and reports) cannot be and are all saved directly on the server.

  • Sigma's mechanism for defining and using filters in reports and dashboards is very far behind their competitors. Filter behavior is often inefficient and counterintuitive.
  • The queries Sigma generates for non-trivial operations seems to be relatively inefficient, and it makes extensive use of machine-generated column identifiers that make it difficult to diagnose which parts of the query are causing trouble.

My learning curve with Sigma was very quick but also very steep. When I first looked at it, I was rather confused by the new paradigm but after playing with it for about 15-20 minutes it "clicked" and suddenly I was performing the most powerful non-handwritten-SQL queries of my career, and everything since then - visualisations, etc - have been a breeze. Their support team is also immensely helpful when I have been unable to find things, with chat right there in the app at all times (unlike some companies that like to bury it or hide it behind a crappy kb interface).

To be honest, we haven't had to utilize support a lot. Most things are self-explanatory or easily discovered online. So from the marketing side, we have had no reason to contact support. That said, our engineering team who is responsible for the solution seems to be happy about the overall package/user experience with Sigma so I'm inclined to rate them highly. Also, if you don't have need to contact support - then they're probably doing something right!

It can be embedded on top of a website for direct analysis. I feel this is a way faster and a better solution. This is like an integrated solution. That's why the firm selected Logi Analytics for quick insights on customer behavior and data.

Sigma Computing is far and away more intuitive to navigate, much easier to look at, and seems to put all of the data and tools I need at my fingertips. I no longer need to dive deep into NetSuite to build reports, update them, or find data for one-off customers. This saves time, stress, and frustration. It aids quick conversation in meetings as well.

  • Simga greatly increased the population of colleagues that could effectively access and query data--I'd estimate that it's grown our effective-data users by 30-40% company-wide.
  • As with any business tool, integration and mass-adoption take time. We are a data-centric consumer hardware company, there are a myriad of existing tools so getting full buy-in (outside of our data analytics team) has taken >1 year.
