Additional DetailsOur platform is broken down into Pro and Enterprise Pricing. Pro includes monitoring for all of your cloud, hybrid, and on-premises infrastructure. Our Enterprise package includes all of this, plus our AIOps and Machine Learning functionality that provides dynamic thresholds, root cause analysis, anomaly detection and more! LogicMonitor only charges by the device. What is considered a device? A device is anything with an IP address that you want to monitor, including a physical device or a cloud resource. This means multiple data sources under the same IP address can be monitored for the same price. Unlike some monitoring platforms. we don’t charge per node, interface, or metric.

Chose LogicMonitor
We chose the best part which is physical infra monitoring. We used it as our first monitoring and alerting solution and continue to use it for our legacy physical infra (VMs, network devices, EVXes ).
Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring
Chose Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring
Most important for us was combination of integrations with different infrastructures in AWS and easy and intuitive dashboards and alert creations. Pricing was not quite an issue for us.

I would not recommend it to smaller businesses or MSPs that deal with small accounts. The cost to benefit ratio is not great for those. It's usually a good fit for larger organizations that can benefit from all the features LogicMonitor offers where the price point might be acceptable.

Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring is well suited for any complicated environment where you have apps and servers across multiple clouds and platforms and products. If you have a data centre where all your apps and servers are in one single network, you could probably get away with older solutions. But for any modern, complex, hybrid-cloud microservices environment, Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring is a must-have.

Pros
LogicMonitor
  • I think the best feature is the SaaS itself. The availablity at a webpage makes things really up to speed on the ever expanding cloud platforms taking over.
  • It also doesn't boggle up the space in your email boxes sending consistent messages that aren't as critical as they should be. It simply expresses just the facts.
  • Finally the ability to oversee all operations over a single customizable window pane makes it extremely intuitive and convenient.

  • SignalFX handles historical metric aggregation exceptionally well, providing a multifaceted approach to event detection based on anomalies.
  • SignalFX's cost is incredibly flexible with their pricing model of DPM (data-point per minute) vs the traditional "per host" model that most monitoring SaaS use.
  • SignalFX support is responsive and knowledgeable, very eager to help solve your immediate problems.
  • SignalFX integrations is vast and constantly growing, making adoption easy even when multiple different open-source technologies are used in your stack.

Cons
LogicMonitor
  • Integration capabilities with PSA/Ticketing Tools lack customization for multiple calls/actions per alert function
  • Netflow/traffic analytics could show endpoints vs. IPs for all the popular ones, ex: Facebook, youtube, Netflix, etc.
  • GUI could be beautified...think Apple OS and easy buttons. Some of the navigation is cumbersome
  • Reports function ... cumbersome, drag and drop would be lovely since properties to not auto-populate

  • Better integration with our clients (native mobile clients SDKs will be great).
  • A way to easily tag filters and move them across metrics/formula.
  • Alert system to easy false [alarm] and hard to configure.
  • Be able to have group more dimensions (and have more values on each).

They keep adding features and expanding available options. The future of LogicMonitor looks even better than it is today which is very promising. Usability
LogicMonitor
Set up is super easy. Just stand up a small Linux or Windows server to act as a collector. There are no agents to install on monitored devices and all you need is SNMP or WMI access. When creating dashboards, all you have to do is find the widget on the device you want to show up and choose the menu option to add it.

I find that learning the interface can take some time. We need a better show-and-tell on how the Teams pages, Dashboard Groups, Dashboards and charts delay. Advance SignalFlow is sometimes hard to build. Some better samples of advanced SignalFlow would be helpful. For example, Splunk SPL has a vast resource of examples.

Support Rating
LogicMonitor
The sales team support we received was top notch. They worked hand in hand to make sure the product met all expectations. So far we have not really had to work with support that much; we have worked with setup team after purchase to deploy product fully. No issues so far and we are four weeks in.

Implementation Rating
LogicMonitor
The Implementation team kept us on track even when we didn't have time. They made up for our lack of focus at times and boiled everything down to simple tasks which enabled a quick deployment and an easy transition to regularly using the tool. They also kept us in a post-implementation for a while after which ensured we have multiple support options after go-live

LogicMonitor
Auvik did not provide historical data and could not monitor as many device types as LM. We found the Auvik collector to be more "buggy" and have had less issues with LM. We do feel that Auvik had a better network topology map and would clearly show device relationship. That is really the only advantage that Auvik has over LM.

They’re not for the same purpose but we’re using NewRelic and Honeycomb for monitoring purposes. NewRelic is used for HTTP client monitoring for system related throughput, error, database and external client monitoring. Honeycomb is used to monitor actual HTTP request/response values. Splunk [Infrastructure Monitoring] is used for real-time application related throughout and error monitoring.

LogicMonitor isn't going to be the cheapest solution out there but I do think it is the best. Also, the support is amazing where as if you were to use some free opensource tool have fun waiting for the developer to get off work to support his side project. Worth every penny.

Haven't really used it but our initial onboarding PS was disappointing. Felt like we were being told what we needed to cover as opposed to what we wanted to cover. In addition, we were pushed into using the PS in tight time frames and we were not ready to do so.

LogicMonitor
  • We are currently tracking more things that, in another way, were not possible to identify and correct.
  • We work more efficiently because we first resolve the critical incidents and then continue with the less relevant ones.
  • Some alerts are quite difficult to resolve and the documentation sometimes did not guide to resolve the problems.

  • Reduced downtime.
  • Caused us to get a lot of spam when we redeployed apps and old instances stopped sending metrics. Muting alerts solves this, but people often forget to do it or do it incorrectly.
  • Helped us find historical info about instances/apps.
