Mailchimp is well suited to a situation where you have a stable or known set of recipients to whom you will be sending email updates on a regular basis. Mailchimp is well suited to situations where a lot of information needs to be sent to a lot of different people and organizations at specified times in the future.Mailchimp is not appropriate for one-to-one communication - the higher the scale of interactions from 1 to many the better the software performs.

Microsoft Yammer

Yammer provides a social network experience for the enterprise, providing a "Facebook for work". Its mobile app provides an excellent user experience, showing the full mix of communications happening across topics and teams. The web app, while it hasn't evolved much in the last few years, provides a good experience consuming news. Personally, I use Yammer every morning to see what's happening across my company and comment, like, and share to interact across silos.As long as the size of the network inside of Yammer is managed - likely partitioning a large organization into business units, etc., - then Yammer provides an excellent platform for social news and "bottom up" collaboration across teams. Its free-form posting style, including articles and polls for interactive content, helps break down silos across the organization. Contrasted with the boring world of email, Yammer is a tantalizing world of pictures, GIFs, and videos.At LiveTiles, we share company and team news via Yammer, enabling others to see the progress and milestones - from a new office to a new customer - without the heavy burden of a company newsletter or similarly curated content. Even though we have fully adopted Teams for day-to-day, intra-team communication, Yammer is still the gold standard for inter-team communication.

  • Phone support. While the chat function is extremely effective, it can be helpful with certain questions to speak with someone over the phone.
  • I'd like the ability to unsubscribe someone to all campaigns. Currently, if someone unsubscribes to a campaign, they will never receive that exact campaign again. But if their email address is on multiple lists or gets added on another list by someone who is unaware that they unsubscribed, that person will receive another email. Many recipients have been angered by this, telling me that the unsubscribed - which they did - but I have to explain that the process is not universal, and sometimes we forget to include the "exclude" list.
  • The payment structure goes by the number of email addresses that are stored on Mailchimp, so to stay below a certain billing threshold, I have to periodically delete lists of stored email addresses. This gets to be cumbersome because I regularly need to delete and re-upload many of the same lists of people.

  • Editing functionality would be warmly welcomed by my team. There's currently no way to edit posts in Yammer once they've been posted. If a typo is bothering you, you'll have to delete your post and re-post with the edited text.
  • Yammer's design leaves something to be desired. Document editing is not great.
  • No obvious way to sort/organize files uploaded to Yammer. If files from a certain user are needed, you'll have to go to their profile and sift through their uploaded files.

Some functionalities are not easy to use, like document editing, but some others are quick and effective (posts and tagging above all). I have, in the 4+ years that I've used Mailchimp, never seen an issue that restricted the use of their software/tools. I don't know of a single time when they're system crashed or went down. I could be wrong, but I honestly haven't experienced any issues with outages, errors or unplanned downtime

I haven't noticed any slow speeds from Mailchimp or their tools. I think the landing pages load quickly and look nice. The email reports and editing operates smoothly and doesn't take time to load. Additionally, when I use Mailchimp in conjunction with Zapier + Hubspot I don't notice any drag between any of these tools

We have never had to use the support for Yammer. The tool works well and we have not come across any bugs. User Interface is simple and easy to use, similar to other forum type products, thereby removing the need for any extensive training. Team members are invited in and immediately are able to start using the tool.

It's pretty easy to get up and running! There's a slight learning curve on a few things, but once you find where everything is located, you can import your list and send your first email. It really makes our clients feel great to see how quickly they can get that first email out.

The automation features in Mailchimp vastly outrank any other mail service I've tried so far, and seeing as we often try and teach our clients how to utilize it, I also really appreciate their deep and constantly updated tutorials and documentation. Whenever I've had an issue or problem their support staff, whether over chat or phone have been really helpful and invested in helping solve the issue.

There was a limited learning curve, and a bit of training need, but generally the transition was smooth. SharePoint, while it proved to be useful company-wide, we have found that Microsoft Yammer creates more of a social network within departments. Microsoft Yammer provides a personal employee communication and information sharing

Mailchimp over the years I've used it has grown in leaps and bounds. They have added so many additional features than were previously available. They are truly an all-in-one marketing platform now.If you're a small operation and just want to add email to your marketing efforts, they're there for you. If you're a larger operation and want to start sending postcard advertisements, they can do that. If you'd good with that and want to kick up your marketing by going social, you can do that on their platform. They are truly able to be as small as you need, but also get quite large in whatever it is you'd like to do through their system.

  • Its affordability keeps campaign expenditures low. For the first year of the campaign, we were able to utilize the free service which saved us about $400 on administrative costs. We have just recently upgraded to a payment plan.
  • The ease of using saved templates cuts down on staff time, and even if we decide to use a new template, customizing a template is pretty simple.
  • We have been able to raise $5,000+ from our email campaigns, and that was during the time when we weren't paying for the service.

  • Adoption. When an ESN is implemented the wrong way, e.g. you force it on the organization without explaining the benefits for the user and not providing enough instructions and training to get started, it may well backfire on you and build a wall of resistance from the organization. Thus, to create ROI you need to think before you launch Yammer, and take help from people who know how to do it, e.g. a CSM or a CM.
  • Belonging. Yammer makes people feel more involved and up to date on what's happening. This increase employee engagement and helps management to steer the organization in the right direction.
  • Find blind spots. Yammer enables people to share ideas and prototypes with many people both within the company and invited customers (via an external network). This is a great way to discover blind spots and other flaws, to give you time to adjust them before going to market with a new product or service.
  • Find expertise. Yammer makes it much faster for anyone to find answers. Thus, time spent on finding an answer to a customers questions is not only reduced enormously, but Yammer enables you to get answers to questions that earlier was left unanswered because you couldn't find information at all.
  • Collaboration. To work together to create a presentation, social media content, a newsletter, a report, is much easier and faster when using Yammer. And you can get valuable input from people you never thought of asking.
