A workload is a VMware vSphere VM, Microsoft Hyper-V VM, Nutanix AHV VM, a physical machine (01 server and 03 workstations), an Oracle database, or an Amazon EC2 instance.
Pricing and reliability put Nakivo ahead of the others. The simplicity of installation and ease of use was also very attractive in deciding on Nakivo. Products with massive installation and configuration requirements are not suited to the SME market.
Altaro offers a competitive price but not VMware support which is our preferred virtualisation product. The Vembu Cloud DR is more expensive to implement, less flexibile (requires a Windows server) and it is a product with a lot of space for improvements, however excellent …
File share backup is less rich in terms of restore features, but the basic functions are supported. It have all you need to plan backup jobs. Backup and restore of virtual machines is the strongest function of Nakivo. When backing up to Amazon S3, keep in mind that you will be taxed also based on the I/O you make and this will be more prominent cost with Nakivo.
Well, it is suited for backups for Hyper-V virtualization and off-site replication. It´s less appropriate for someone that needs to automate actions; there are no script possibilities using BDR. There´s no simple migration/move to another server. It´s the right tool to have a basic backup and replication at a fair price.
Frequent backups do not affect the server load especially when the store is based on a high-performance NAS. We use OMV and average a GB per Minute per backup.
Offsite backups to a hosted store on AWS or Wsabi is simple.
Seed an offsite backup. A simple checkbox to seed a large backup prior to backing it up to our datacenter. Previously with another well knows backup provider this was convoluted and time-consuming.
Backup Speed. Vembu BDR is fast and allows me to schedule multiple jobs within time constraints that prohibit some backup products from working.
DR - Vembu BDR provides an option to mirror your backups to an offsite datacenter without taxing production servers with a secondary backup job.
Bare Metal Recovery: the ability to create a custom bootable ISO that you can quickly recover a failed physical server or workstation.
Ease of use: The console is consistent and very easy to use. From initial install to being fully configured takes just a few minutes.
Backups have the option of "screenshot verification". Screenshot verification doesn't always work for us when our vmtools is out of date. If we are on an older version of VMware and that version of vmtools is up to date, NAKIVO still thinks it is out of date.
Their documentation needs improvement both from a base framework perspective and from a version-to-version perspective.
error messages that aren't helpful or documentation that isn't for the new version.
The uninstallation and reinstallation process should be smoother if you're attempting to do a repair because a version update broke something
When upgrading, sometimes the agent on the target server needs upgrading but doesn't auto-upgrade and so you have to dig through older versions' documentation to find the command to uninstall and then reinstall.
Restoring a Domain Controller causes issues that aren't documented as possibilities. The issues aren't related to the DC, but due to the way, the restore is done which effect DCs specifically.
Because it is a product that I have been using for many years, it is becoming easier to use, and it also includes more and more things that you might need.
I think the product will remain useful for us and as the company keeps improving features it will continue to be relevant and useful. We don't like switching technology much and BDR solutions shouldn't be something that a company replaces every few years., that's why most likely we will keep using it.
NAKIVO Backup & Replication is very easy to set up. I did it by myself, and it went perfectly. Online documents are very well written, and also the tech support asked to help me set it up. I want to do it by myself and the setup process is very easy to do. The connection to your VM and servers is very easy to do.
Vembu is a great solution, but it still requires some fine-tuning. The user interface for Managed Service Providers could be more streamlined. Support logs need to provide clearer information about an issue whenever there's a failure. Backup agents should have the ability to automatically update when there's a new version and support should be on-shore during US business hours.
The support is fast and perfect. If u have any questions, you can contact the support team via mail or chat and you always get a fast answer. You can also find a lot of help in the FAQ in the help center to resolve your problems. Anytime I had to contact the support, they helped me and solved my problem.
It often takes a very long time to get an issue fixed. the support folks seem committed to getting it fixed but they often seem to be trying different things and hoping something works. I did not get the sense that they had a clear idea what was wrong.
It is very easy to do in all the formats in which it is implemented, whether as an appliance, in a windows machine, or an implementation in NAS. I only use the appliance one, but I have tried all of them in trial mode to know which one interested me more.
It wasn't difficult at all, it fact, it was mostly simple, implementation doesn't require much skills and knowledge, but the configuration part does require some skills to create the jobs and configure certain settings, overall, its an easy implementation, especially for experienced IT People
NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers most of the features of the great products and the ones most used by all backup administrators at a very competitive price. For this reason, it is not necessary to make large outlays to be able to maintain a backup with a high level of security. It is quick to implement and very simple to use.
I tested Vembu against Veeam and for the price, Vembu was the better option. I also had a great support experience as I had to contact Vembu twice after mistakes I made. While using Veeam the software was not as intuitive and support responses were not as swift and accurate.
Of course, you always think that something could be a bit cheaper. But NAKIVO Backup & Replication delivers real value for its price and value that lasts. We greatly appreciate that you are still able to actually BUY the software instead of being forced into subscription services. After all, it is OUR data and it should remain that.
I contacted a few times Nakivo representatives, once for technical doubt and the other ones for commercial ones. Both support services are fast and reliable.
One of our contributors has permanently deleted worksheets from our file server. From Nakivo, we were able to recover all the data in less than 10 minutes.
An authentication server was encrypted by ransomware, through NAKIVO Backup & Replication, we recover the entire server within 1 hour.
For organizations that use different tools for Backup and recovery, this could be the single tool for Storage and Backup Administrators to automate and work effectively.
Software cost is lesser thus the money can be invested for other tools/software procurement
I don't think there is any negative impact as of now
