Nintex Process Platform

Running complex or multi-step workflows is really where Nintex shines, especially if you don't have developer resources on staff. With the WYSIWYG like workflow canvas, you can easily see the logic and build the necessary steps using out-of-the-box controls included in the product. Branching logic or conditional steps are easily supported and the concept of state machines is supported as well.

I loved it. You will not get an easier interface. You can develop workflow processes in a simple way, one which allows anyone to understand what you are trying to accomplish; however, you will get into some issues if your employees are scared of coding (when you get to the advanced features). For some, this will never be an issue as the knowledge you need is very basic. But for the school I was working with, it would have stopped them cold

Pros

Nintex Process Platform

  • Nintex workflows provide a robust interface that's not only intuitive but easy to learn with little to no coding experience.
  • Nintex forms are particularly powerful and provide a great alternative to InfoPath forms which is being deprecated.
  • Upgrading between versions of Nintex is easy to do with their nwadmin tool and robust documentation provided on their support portal.
  • The user adoption rate of their products is extremely high and doesn't require a selling point or an explanation of benefits in converting their existing workflows and forms.

ProcessMaker

  • We can write PHP and Javascript code to handle the way the ProcessMaker does. It makes the ProcessMaker more flexible to meet our requests on our workflow.
  • The Processmaker provides a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get flowchart design tool, we can draw our process very easy like Visio. And, We can use the flowchart to implement our workflow.
  • Also, the Dynaform, the electronic form function of Processmaker, is WYSIWYG form design tool, help us design forms participated in the process.

Cons

Nintex Process Platform

  • Forms: Some functionality about validation, or buttons need to be implemented using JAVASCRIPT. It would be welcomed to include more functions in this area.
  • Forms: The parent-child relationship is another area to improve. Repeating sections don't have the required performance to make a strong relationship between two or more tables (Sharepoint lists).
  • Workflow: Using an on-premise environment, there is not a good system to manage workflows: versions, insights, purge, etc.

ProcessMaker

  • I am still not able to achieve complicated workflows. May be a developer to create a plugin is required.
  • The UI can be more attractive and colourful.

Unfortunately, we will not be using Nintex going forward because the experience in on-prem Nintex and SharePoint 2016 is not replicable in Office 365 / SharePoint online. Also, the licensing model is different and would not be cost-effective to scale in the new environment with a lower-functioning version of Nintex (Nintex online is not as robust and user-friendly as the on-prem version). Our parent company assesses capability, licensing models, cost, and security to weigh in on whether a tool can exist in our portfolio. While on-prem Nintex was a great solution for our business when connected to SharePoint 2016, the online version that connects to SharePoint online is feature-weak, in development, and does not march capability forward for us in a meaningful way. The parent operating company has opted to go with Microsoft Flow instead.

Nintex Workflow does exactly what it is advertised to do: make workflow development fast and easy. It doesn't provide very much new functionality, but it isn't really supposed to.When I am working with a client on a SharePoint project, I am always happy if I hear that they use Nintex Workflow, as it makes workflows much easier.

I give this a 9 because Nintex overall has been exemplary, except for responsive design forms seem to be a little slow when getting complex.

it seems to take a very long time to get anything completed Been using the platform now for two years and the system still does not work as purposed - not sure if this is a Nintex problem or an eternal company issue

I used the Nintex training software, it was easy to watch and follow along. It didn't go too fast and was descriptive enough to understand what the steps needed were in order to produce efficient workflows and user friendly forms.

test runs for key persons to insure the system is set up prior to rolling out I think the platform is good, I think the roll out and the local implantations is where we are failing as a company in using Nintex

Alternatives Considered

Nintex Process Platform

Nintex WorkFlows seems to be a lot more user friendly, contrast to using SharePoint Designer. I had to spend a lot of time learning SPD and even more time troubleshooting SPD WorkFlows and InfoPath Forms. Though Microsoft offers lots of information on knowledge base (kbs) and "Tech Net" articles that can be an eye sore to read, Nintex has a lot of easy to understand online courses that empower administrators how each action works, WorkFlow terminology and mitigating errors. I appreciate the Nintex online community that also zeros in on troubleshooting when admins are stuck.

ProcessMaker

Before making the decision to get ProcessMaker, we assessed different and best options in the market, which are also quite competitive. KiSSFLOW, Blueworks Live, and Bizagi, being the most relevant and ADONIS, to mention the ones we consider the most relevant and capable of meeting our needs. In the end, we went for ProcessMaker because of mainly three things as described before:1. Real-time process status tracking.2. Metrics and dashboards. 3. Ease of use for constructing diagrams.

Scalability

Nintex Process Platform

Nintex Process Platform 8.5

This product works well as you scale business processes but there is a point where things become too complex. Administratively it scales fine, number of users is no problem, and since Nintex relies on the build in SharePoint workflow manager, it falls under the same scalability perimeters. Business Process complexity is the limiter for scalability within Nintex.

Return on Investment

Nintex Process Platform

  • Nintex has an ROI report that analysis all workflows in your environment and time spent on developing the workflows . We have paid off our investment in the first 12 months according to this report.
  • Once you have implemented it, you should probably have more than one person or have plans in place to get more people because the requests will start streaming in.
Francois Crous | TrustRadius Reviewer

ProcessMaker

  • This would have been the easiest program to implement. It would have been the quickest, and the one that most of the employees would have been able to master. That alone would have saved countless dollars in time investment.
  • Unfortunately, the environment doesn't support knowledge of coding. So, they would never be able to advance further than a certain degree before having to bring someone else in again. It would have saved money at first, but then would have ended up costing in the long run.
