Running complex or multi-step workflows is really where Nintex shines, especially if you don't have developer resources on staff. With the WYSIWYG like workflow canvas, you can easily see the logic and build the necessary steps using out-of-the-box controls included in the product. Branching logic or conditional steps are easily supported and the concept of state machines is supported as well.

ServiceNow

In very large enterprises. ServiceNow can handle a multitude of operations to help with overall IT management. The downside is two-fold: it can get quite clunky at times, and is expensive. While much of it is not intuitive and can be difficult to figure out and use, it has quite a wide range of reporting capabilities. If set up properly with solid process flows, it can be a tremendous tool for IT consumers, technicians and management.

  • Nintex workflows provide a robust interface that's not only intuitive but easy to learn with little to no coding experience.
  • Nintex forms are particularly powerful and provide a great alternative to InfoPath forms which is being deprecated.
  • Upgrading between versions of Nintex is easy to do with their nwadmin tool and robust documentation provided on their support portal.
  • The user adoption rate of their products is extremely high and doesn't require a selling point or an explanation of benefits in converting their existing workflows and forms.

  • Web based GUI where we can have drag and drop feature enabled for handling the items
  • Integrates well with third party platforms using REST APIs like monitoring tools to create tickets or Alerting tools to create alarms in case of an event
  • Available as a SAAS solution by ServiceNow hence users needn't worry about the backend infrastructure

  • Forms: Some functionality about validation, or buttons need to be implemented using JAVASCRIPT. It would be welcomed to include more functions in this area.
  • Forms: The parent-child relationship is another area to improve. Repeating sections don't have the required performance to make a strong relationship between two or more tables (Sharepoint lists).
  • Workflow: Using an on-premise environment, there is not a good system to manage workflows: versions, insights, purge, etc.

  • It is hard to find areas for improvement, the tool is very powerful. That said, building the CMDB still involves some manual interaction which was not how it was presented in demos.
  • The CMDB data is almost too deep and detailed. When you build the relationship map it can be so large that it is overwhelming. You can limit this, but the default maps are massive if you are discovering lots of device classes.
  • The product is expensive. Since they are the leader in the industry and the product has tons of features, they definitely charge for it!

Unfortunately, we will not be using Nintex going forward because the experience in on-prem Nintex and SharePoint 2016 is not replicable in Office 365 / SharePoint online. Also, the licensing model is different and would not be cost-effective to scale in the new environment with a lower-functioning version of Nintex (Nintex online is not as robust and user-friendly as the on-prem version). Our parent company assesses capability, licensing models, cost, and security to weigh in on whether a tool can exist in our portfolio. While on-prem Nintex was a great solution for our business when connected to SharePoint 2016, the online version that connects to SharePoint online is feature-weak, in development, and does not march capability forward for us in a meaningful way. The parent operating company has opted to go with Microsoft Flow instead.

Nintex Workflow does exactly what it is advertised to do: make workflow development fast and easy. It doesn't provide very much new functionality, but it isn't really supposed to.When I am working with a client on a SharePoint project, I am always happy if I hear that they use Nintex Workflow, as it makes workflows much easier.

The dashboard is so confusing, [there are] many clicks to open a task and search by a ticket. The Enterprise customisation [we did] has finished to kill the software and creates a really bad experience on a daily basis. [It is] So slow, and so many clicks to process a ticket. Works only on IE so, that [should] make you realize that [it] is a bad idea.

Unlike any other process automation product out there. Not only is it a low-code, easy to use tool for building processes in environments like SharePoint or Salesforce, they have really started to expand their tool-set by offering tools to manage other things like process mapping, RPA, mobile,etc.

To type in what should be a text box, you have to click an empty cell, a tiny text box pop up opens with a check box and an X. You the. Type in the text box and have to click the check mark. If you have a bunch of fields to fill out, doing this is very annoying. Absolutely know thought went in to this. I'm sure somebody in marketing thought it was a good idea. It wasn't.

Nintex WorkFlows seems to be a lot more user friendly, contrast to using SharePoint Designer. I had to spend a lot of time learning SPD and even more time troubleshooting SPD WorkFlows and InfoPath Forms. Though Microsoft offers lots of information on knowledge base (kbs) and "Tech Net" articles that can be an eye sore to read, Nintex has a lot of easy to understand online courses that empower administrators how each action works, WorkFlow terminology and mitigating errors. I appreciate the Nintex online community that also zeros in on troubleshooting when admins are stuck.

ServiceNow seems to be able to scale as large as you would like it to and outpaces the competition as far as ease of licenses and growth. While it is clunky it really allows you to drill down to the smallest workflow or permissions to really allow the system to build around your environment. Other products seem to want to push you towards templates or more of the "wizard" style set up.

This product works well as you scale business processes but there is a point where things become too complex. Administratively it scales fine, number of users is no problem, and since Nintex relies on the build in SharePoint workflow manager, it falls under the same scalability perimeters. Business Process complexity is the limiter for scalability within Nintex.

  • Nintex has an ROI report that analysis all workflows in your environment and time spent on developing the workflows . We have paid off our investment in the first 12 months according to this report.
  • Once you have implemented it, you should probably have more than one person or have plans in place to get more people because the requests will start streaming in.

  • ServiceNow has positively impacted ROI as it has improved the efficiency of request handling.
  • It has had the positive impact of allowing our organization to standardize on one ticketing tool eliminating a number of others.
  • A negative impact on ROI has been the licensing cost of ServiceNow. Being the premier ticket management system, it definitely has the price tag to match.
