Norton

For a stand-alone business this should do the trick, but if using across multiple clients (multi-tenancy not an option). Default settings within the program will cause performance issues if not tweaked, meaning someone with networking experience may be necessary. Not ideal for MSP's unless they only have a few clients, as the manageability must be done within "the walls" of each company.

SentinelOne

Due to the low administrative overhead, SentinelOne is a good solution for companies with smaller staffs who may not have dedicated security resources. EDR capabilities are not as extensive as some other products but basic information is available an unless you have sufficient resources to evaluate data, additional data may not be valuable. SentinelOne offers a very good blend of data and automatic remediation and protection.

Pros

Norton

  • Advanced protection against web attacks that take advantage of software vulnerabilities. Stops threats that traditional antivirus techniques do not recognize. Filter unwanted e-mails through professionally robust antispam protection
  • Block phishing websites and authenticate trusted sites. Protects, stores and manages logins and personal information. Prevent hackers from spying and stealing information. Identify unsafe websites in search results.
  • It is one of the most effective antivirus when blocking and removing viruses
  • It helps protect and monitor the home network. Automatically protects the PC when it connects to public wireless networks.

SentinelOne

  • Prior to the use of SentinelOne, my staff spent on average 4 hours a week fixing/rebuilding computers that were infected. We now spend less than 30 minutes each week. That is a direct saving of both regular and IT staff time.
  • Simple straight forward portal controls all aspects of SentinelOne with good alerting for my staff if issues arise.
  • Easy touchless testing and deploy of new version to our staff where ever they work.

Cons

Norton

  • It uses a lot of RAM which can cause issues in other areas of computer use.
  • If you chose to un-install it can be difficult to get rid of all traces of the program.
  • The initial configuring can be challenging for the average user as the manuals are overwhelming. Better tutorials would be helpful.

SentinelOne

  • Deep dive search is hit or miss.
  • Using Vigilance (vendor provided MSSP) was frustrating as they did not inform us how they reach solutions.

Depends on pricing and company size. In case of growing will probably switch to Symantec Endpoint Protection Cloud or Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Compared to all the other major players, SentinelOne is truly hands off. One installed, the tool is able to manage all the major threats on my endpoints without intervention. The biggest thing the IT Dept has to do now is just clear the incidents after SentinelOne has dealt with them. Every other tool I have used requires significantly more effort to maintain.

Their support is good and quick to respond. The one issue we faced was when a non-protection issue arose there was a lot of dancing around trying to figure things out. This was frustrating as it took significantly longer to figure out issues. Lots of repetitive log gathers, screen caps, uninstalls that never seemed to resolve issues. Eventually, the product would be updated and the issue seemed to be resolved, but seemed to be the only solution.

Would like a manual or online version that is simple to understand and explains in detail what choices we have and why to make these choices.

Using a hosted model, we know we are always getting the best core cybersecurity, but for the endpoints, we don't need something as complex as FireEye, and we wanted more than Lookout was able to provide. Lookout was terrific, and it came already installed with many of our phones. But we chose to proactively seek out a cyber solution that mapped to our policies.

SentinelOne

SentinelOne had all of the major features that we were looking for. The other products either required too much administrative attention or were lacking key features. For example, one could be uninstalled by the end user. We required that the installation be password protected to protect against end user disabling or uninstalling. One product required manual intervention for all remediation which put to high a burden on limited staff. All products are always being revised so these may no longer be issues but they had a significant impact on our decision.

Return on Investment

Norton

  • It has helped prevent any private company information including banking and accounting information from being obtained by hackers. This helps prevent attacks on our accounts which would cause huge issues for our company.
  • It helps keep our computers from crashing due to viruses which would halt any operations on that computer and cause extra hours for our I.T. Department to fix.

SentinelOne

  • I do not worry about endpoints if they have SentinelOne installed
  • Endpoint management is virtually hands off, freeing our IT staff to focus on other matters
  • News updates from SentinelOne keep me informed of what is going on and as a result I consider them a trusted resource
