I would definitely recommend Octopus HR if companies need every employee, not just one HR team, to use it. I think it's too much and would suggest something like Taleo for one team to use.Key questions would be: Do you need a simple platform? Are you using this just for your HR team or will everyone need access? Is the way employees request PTO at your company disorganized?

Sage HRMS is a software that fits in all organizations whether small or large and this makes it the most suitable HR solution as it will help you manage your workforce even if it may appear small. The software has analytics and reporting tools that are applicable in performance management where you will use them in assessing the productivity of your employees and plan on how to improve further as a workforce. Pros

Octopus HR

  • It's simple. I really appreciate that the layout of Octopus HR isn't something I have to question. I know where to look for something because it's clearly labeled, that's more than I can say for a lot of other HR systems I've seen.
  • Support. If I ever have a question about setting something up, or if something goes wrong, they're always on top of it. For instance, I had no idea how to set up employee photos on our accounts. I tweeted them and they responded right away, I'm based in LA and they're a UK company, I was impressed that they were able to respond right away. They make sure their customers are taken care of.
  • Great self guide. If there's ever an ordinary question I need answered their "Octopus Guide" is very thorough and walks you through everything.

  • Reporting - there are three levels of reporting - 1. Standard Reports 2. Query Tool - users can create very simple list with some filtering functionality 3. Crystal Reports - user can create very simple to complex report pulling data from multiple table, calculated fields, etc.
  • Benefit Tracking - benefit plans are setup utilizing rate tables therefore rate changes are updated globally
  • Payroll - everyday payroll processing and tax filing that is very user friendly

  • Adding employee photos. That's definitely something I think is hard to figure out on your own.
  • An easier way for users to retrieve their passwords. Sometimes I notice even when employees put in all the correct information, the system doesn't recognize it.

  • It is sometimes hard to identify parts of competency/compensation history. We built tables to store this data but it is not laid out well on the screen.
  • Sometimes, even when you tell the system to "Add to History" it doesn't update so there is history missing. This impacts someone that relies on history for troubleshooting and reports.

Very different platforms. You get a lot of bang for your buck using Octopus HR. It's a much more modern and simple layout and that's something forward thinking companies definitely enjoy.

Sage HRMS was very cost effective for a non-profit. It does all that we needed as a company and more. It also allows us to handle payroll ourselves instead of outsourcing [it].

  • Employee efficiency. There's never a question of who I request my time off with. The program sets up line managers who take in all the requests.
  • Less wasted time. Contact info and photo are very visible and easily accessed.

  • As we have grown as an organization, the deficiencies in the reporting function have created more work for staff as we have to find other ways to create reports.
  • Over the last few years, we have encountered a few issues with calculations from the system which have caused a lot of additional labor hours and dollars to correct the problem.
