Skype for Business

Skype for Business [(formerly Lync)] is well suited for making presentations to group of people and large audience, not necessarily in the same location but different locations. [It] allows instant visual and verbal communication and also enhances sharing of documents and dissemination of other materials. [It] is a good tool for having meetings, even recurring meetings.

Pros

Onebox

  • Very detailed scheduling for call routing. You can schedule a different hunt group every 15 minutes or more granular if you choose. It is flexible enough to meet the needs of any organization.
  • Personal attendant. You can customize the message and customize which number is displayed, either your number or the number of the caller.
  • Setting up hunt group is very easy. You can also customize how the numbers in the hunt group are called. You can set up sequential dialing or "blast" dialing. You can also get as granular as setting up how many rings it will try for each number before continuing on.

Skype for Business

  • Saved chat history (Conversation History). This is a useful upgrade vs. our last tool (Jabber) where I'd have to manually save chats as HTML if I wanted to reference the information later.
  • Integration with Outlook. It is convenient having a Skype meeting button built directly into scheduling which inserts the call-in info. I also appreciate that when meetings are scheduled his way, a "join meeting" button pops up in the Outlook meeting reminder. Also, nice that the saved Conversation History on my first point is searchable in Outlook.
  • The emoji of a head banging against a brick wall. It often perfectly encapsulates my feelings about work, especially when Skype for Business is failing.
  • The ability to record meetings is much better than when we used WebEx. It's built-in whereas with WebEx we had to have some special version to be able to capture the audio from the presenter AND the participants, which often meant the presenter would just have to repeat questions (waste of time). That was super annoying for someone like me who does a lot of remote training sessions, so this is a nice improvement over the previous tool.

  • The scheduling is very granular, but the interface for setting up the schedule isn't the easiest to navigate.
  • I would like the ability to copy or clone schedules. We have 3 different schedules on three different hunt groups and when there are changes to be made, I would like to be able to make the change on one schedule and copy that for another hunt group.
  • The interface for the users to change some of their settings (password, phone, email, etc) isn't very user friendly. I usually have to walk users through changes, and at that point, it is easier for me to just make the changes myself.

  • I think the Skype for Business mobile capabilities could use a few small updates, as we have run across a few glitches that may just be due to connectivity issues.
  • File sharing is slightly clumsy but we have gotten the hang of it as a team.
  • That's it! Skype for Business is pretty great and easy to use.

The software is simple to install and configure. It is rather simple to explain for correct use. It is possible to profile users for the different functions offered. It is integrated quite completely with Outlook and with Active Directory security. It performs all communication functions well with one or more interlocutors and the possibility of granting control of your computer is convenient.

Skype for Business is fairly user-friendly and has a good UI. It has strong audio and video conference call capabilities. It's easy to conduct meetings with various stakeholders across different locations and timezones. The chat and share a file or share my screen functions work seamlessly. If your company uses Office 365, then I would highly recommend it.

Skpe for business is utilized company wide in regards to my company. Everyone not only uses it, but uses it often. It is an effective way of communicating. It also integrates very nicely with outlook and all conversation history is pushed to a folder within the outlook system. We also have it so that if someone misses a message, they are sent an email reminder saying that there is a message that went unread.

I was not an employee when Onebox was selected, but I have used Avaya and Nortel PBXs in the past and while it is not as powerful, it has a lot of great features and a much lower cost of entry.

Select Skype for business because it is a program that offers better video call tools because it contains work options that allow a clearer image of the video, more coincidence between audio and video. Skype for business offers a more innovative and creative interface tailored to the current business demands. It has more striking, technical and professional tools, which are essential for the organization of high-level management meetings.

Skype for Business

  • I cannot imagine working my day job without Skype for business. When it goes down, we are cut from the communication with the rest of the organization, making it hard to do almost anything.
  • If you depend on collaboration with your colleges, Skype will impact that field of your job in the best possible way.
