Optimum Solutions works very well for all our payroll needs. We run payrolls weekly, semi-monthly, monthly and yearly. The end of year process is lined out very well and webinars are available to go over any new regulations required.We haven't utilized the HR part of the software as much on the iSeries but are planning on changing that once we get converted to the Windows version later this year. The main reason for this is the HR part of the software on the iSeries is separate from payroll.

TriNet has allowed our HR team the time to focus on real employee issues, rather than being bogged down with processing paper time-off forms or payroll entries.   • The setup of Optimum HRIS was intense as the software comes as a basic shell and everything is personalized to our organization. All earnings codes, leave time, employee types, job codes, taxes, etc. are set up for each company. While this was almost overwhelming at the beginning, we have so much control over the set up and better grasp of the inner workings of the system.
  • Tax updates come quickly and are easily applied. This is especially welcome at year end.
  • The built-in reporting is robust and offers a lot of options, but the ability to dig in to the database using SQL and Excel allows for very powerful reports that are infinitely personalized.

  • When exporting reports to Excel I found the formatting to be difficult to work with and having to reformat the reports can be a nightmare. My company's IT department created its own business tools to make the reporting format more user friendly.

TriNet

  • Auto-generated notifications from the various HR regulatory and enrollment/administrative requirements and updates are frankly impossible to understand. These need to be written in plain English with clear instructions on what exact next steps need to be taken.
  • They also need to be tailored to the right recipients. i.e. many do not apply to companies with less than XX number of employees. The TriNet system should determine that and not send me urgent "must dos" that aren't applicable to me.
  • While I really appreciate having a dedicated HR representative assigned to help me with any payroll, benefits or HR activities, it would be better if that person was trained in the full range and able to take the initiative to walk me through / assist with new activities as are periodically needed to perform. Basically I'm looking for the care and attention I received being onboarded whenever a new function is required (or I have a problem). One major thing I look for in outsourcing this function is a vast reduction in the amount of time I have to spend on it. If I have to research and talk to all sorts of different departments, this does not save me time.
  • The web interface of the TriNet online application is very difficult and cumbersome for: Simply approving/entering Time Off requests; Viewing my invoices and other "reports"; and we won't even talk about Annual Enrollment setup - that was a nightmare!

TriNet offers an excellent portal for both employers and employees. As the former, I used it to survey my payroll, institute benefits, and other HR policies, and generate reports (such as SBA reports). As an employee, it seamlessly took me through the benefits enrollment process, generation of W-2, and other common HR tasks.

Although there is the usual turnover of staff at Trinet assigned to us, we have always been kept well informed about any changes and the staff has always been extremely responsive and helpful. The combination of a telephone helpline for our employees and a Trinet single point of contact makes the process very smooth and I have never had any issues getting my questions and issues resolved quickly.

We evaluated some payroll services but found the ongoing cost greater than the initial cost of purchasing our own software and keeping the payroll process in house. Other payroll software was generally more expensive and we are satisfied with Optimum Solutions. I would say the main reason we stayed with Optimum Solutions, converting from their iSeries version to their Windows version, was because of their outstanding staff and support.

With ADP and Paychex, at the time, it was a big sell and very little action. It has been a long time since we've used either of those companies, but we have been happy with the progression of our relationship with TriNet and don't intend on changing that any time soon.

  • We offer an extremely competitive benefits package to our employee's thanks to TriNet.
  • It's simple to get your W2 online each year, instead of waiting for it to come in the mail or wondering if you have the wrong address on file with a former employee.
