Oracle Access Management

Oracle Access Manager is a fairly handy tool for network and privacy administrators. Its single sign-on capabilities allow for a better user experience across multiple applications. OAM can be customized by administrators to work with different two-factor authentication service providers like DUO or OneLogin.

RSA Archer

Suitable for any organization looking for effective risk and compliance management.

It might be less appropriate for organizations which don’t have any risk or compliance obligations and not regulated by authorities

Pros

Oracle Access Management

  • SSO itself is valuable because it allows the users to have one password. After logging in to their machine, users don't need to remember or enter additional passwords. There is no need to log in and log out many times, which saves time. Users log in to any application just by typing the initial password.
  • It is very stable; this is because it is a mature product, and it gets better with time. It improves, and I think that it continues to do so.
  • It is very scalable. You can serve as many users as you need to add. As long as you have the machines and infrastructure in place, there are no real limits to the scalability.

Cons

Oracle Access Management

  • Authentication and validation need performance tuning.
  • OAM connects well with Oracle Database but doesn't work smoothly with Microsoft AD.
  • OAM releases are not straightforward for version upgrades.

  • They release time to time updates, which causes issues in the GUI. However, one has to be careful while installing the update.
  • There is no open and free academy to learn more about the tool.
  • One cannot stay to a particular product version, they have to move to the next version to keep up with the changes.

Good tool to get the information communicated, approval workflow, and easy to add new findings/questionnaires. Seems to be compatible with different browsers and little downtime. Only request for improvement is to add an export feature with fewer clicks. Maybe batch export.

Slow response time and new versions don’t make sense at first. We experienced delays when the feature that grades responses didn’t work. We had to wait for the new version and then reconfigure. Good news is that they eventually fixed this feature and it has worked well since. Also, the new color schedule still doesn’t show some buttons for navigation. I’m able to get this to work because I remember where they were on the screen.

Alternatives Considered

Oracle Access Management

Both are great products. From a technical point of view Oracle Access Management implementation is relatively simple due to the possibility to adjust the functionality and appearance of the system to the customer's needs. SAP is a robust product but not user friendly and more expensive. Overall cost and product functionality was what drove us to implement Oracle Access Management.

Both have similar functions, but it was decided that a separate application was desired for Risk and Compliance Systems. This was partly due to Line of Business Ownership and separation of duties

Return on Investment

Oracle Access Management

  • Set up took a while
  • Having credentials stored in a smiple avenue was great
  • The software would sometimes crash or freeze causing a loss in valuable time
  • Other software would likely be better priced and designed for the long haul

  • I feel like this tool's limits our ability to have updated policies and procedures. It seems like the application is so archaic that we have to scale our policies down so they will fit within the system. This is not an optimal way to run an IT organization.
  • It has allowed us to standardize all vendor contact info and risk policies in one place. That is really the only value we are getting from the application.
  • It also seems to have poor integration options with other apps. The data in RSA Archer should be sent to tons of other systems as it is important but this seems overly complex and limited options for actually achieving this.
