Oracle Analytics Cloud

Oracle Analytics Cloud is well suited for an environment where the data warehouse is well defined with star schema structures. It may not work if the data structure is not well defined in terms of complex reporting. OAC's Day By Day app is a clear win and a cool addition to executives whether it is integration with Slack or for identifying issues in realtime.

Zoho Analytics

It's very helpful for small companies with a limited budget to perform some data analysis and visualization. It's probably super helpful if you are tied into the Zoho ecosphere for your other business applications, although we are not in that position. It's also great that Zoho requires no on-prem installed component, for people without access to IT support and limited rights to install applications. Because you will eventually run into charting limitations, if you have high expectations and IT support, however, many people are going to be happier with Tableau from the point of view of options. Please note that my ratings are based on the Basic plan, so there are features Zoho has that I will not rate because, at this level, they are too limited to be practical

Pros

Oracle Analytics Cloud

  • 1: Data Integration: I love that at Whirlpool we have several different databases in the same place and we can extract and combine data easily.
  • 2: Connection with multiple systems: A lot of companies use Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service, so it means that they are seeing a lot of different use cases and improving the tool constantly.
  • 3: Data extraction: Extracting data is much easier than writing a SQL code. So many different types of users can take advantage of that.

Zoho Analytics

  • One small but important feature that I like is that I can show dates by ISO week, this is very helpful for multi-year reporting within a business that works and speaks by ISO week.
  • Zoho Reports is a good tool to use for data reporting from Zoho Projects. Very useful if you are already in the Zoho ecosystem.
  • We use this tool to provide reports to leadership and review team goals. This is very helpful for users who do not use Zoho Projects but want information on day-to-day operations and goal setting.

Cons

Oracle Analytics Cloud

  • Performance of the tool: While Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service (OBICS) can handle large volumes of data as well, it becomes quite unstable and slow when number of concurrent users is high.
  • Limited visualisation options for reporting.
  • Difficult to integrate with other non-Oracle tools. This is especially needed since visualisation options are limited.

Zoho Analytics

  • Reports was challenging to understand initially and some of their documents were out of date so importing did not work.
  • It would be nice if the importing instructions were a little more clear for the layman as not all businesses can have an IT department or the like to set up software like this.
  • Due to insufficient descriptions, it can be unclear as to what a report is describing or displaying to you.

It is very usable for me, but I have had to help others who were less computer savvy figure it out.

Alternatives Considered

Oracle Analytics Cloud

The major advantage of Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service comes in when a user has an Oracle centric development environment. As mentioned earlier, Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service is built keeping OBIEE and Cloud in mind. This is purely to provide Cloud advantages to their traditional on-premise Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition customers. As mentioned earlier, this tool provides 2 different hybrid solutions and one full cloud solution. Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service does not have a path for other tools to migrate. Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service has a Visual Analyzer which is a game changer. This provides all the Visualizations that all other tools combined can provide.

Zoho Analytics

Very powerful charts and graphs that are much easier to use than Excel. It's like a pivot table combined with a chart. I love the ability to dynamically change the charts just by turning data sets on and off in order to drill down and analyze individual data sets without having to create dozens of new charts.

Return on Investment

Oracle Analytics Cloud

  • Essbase delivers well on the business objectives with executive reporting.
  • Essbase works well for financial close reporting purposes.
  • Essbase is good for providing a single source of data for company actuals, forecast and budget data.

  • We wasted our money with Zoho reports and feel that this product is not commercially ready.
