Oracle Analytics Server

The tool is still very good considering the complexities in data that can be modified within the tool using SQL queries. It can be used with advanced coding to integrate data from non-coherent sources. The only place where it is slightly less appropriate is where there is not a crisp UI. The UI and mobile experience could be more intuitive.

SAP Analytics Cloud

SAP Analytics Cloud is great for collaborative planning. It allows users to work together on plans, discuss specific adjustments, and to create planning processes for other users to follow. Its BI capabilities also make it stand out among the competition, and it's possible to create a very customized, user-friendly planning experience.

Pros

Oracle Analytics Server

  • Ease of development and quick turnouts as the build is easier compared to some other BI tools for both reporting developers as well as the power users. The RPD development is comparatively easier to build for star schemas and also the subject areas are easier to use by the power users.
  • Easy integration of Mobile BI interface and sharing features in the same layer.
  • Easy integration of other functionality like MapViewer. Multi database type integration is enabled which is not really a distinctive feature in market, but has been improved a lot in OBIEE now.

SAP Analytics Cloud

  • Functional desing. Easy to learn and develop
  • Live connectivity to SAP sources so the data is not needed to be in the cloud (important for some business for data privacity)
  • SAC is working in different functionalities
  • SAC is growing in a scheduled way so you can know which roadmap will be the following months
  • Easy SSO with SAP sources

Cons

Oracle Analytics Server

  • Some issues that require the assistance of support at Oracle can be time-consuming and difficult to solve.
  • Upgrade from 10g to 11g has made the OBI Foundation Suite very performance intensive. Requires much better hardware support now.
  • Initial setup is not as straightforward as that of previous versions.

SAP Analytics Cloud

  • Performance: in some scenarios, the tool has big troubles in its performance when the volume of data is quite big (mainly with tables and filters).
  • Maturity: as it is a quite new tool, it is not mature enough to satisfy some business necessities. Also, the tool has some bugs which should be basic for a reporting tool.
  • Mobility: I believe mobile apps for SAP Analytics Cloud should be improved (both for Android and iOs devices). They are not as good as the web version. Moreover, stories for mobile devices have to be created in a particular template, which can be annoying in some cases.

Scalability and rich integration capabilities. In the future, if we go with Hyperion for the Financial Consolidation and planning purposes -BI integration with Hyperion is going to be much simpler as it has native interface connectivity and even integration capabilities with well known CRM products (Siebel) and ERP Products (Oracle EBS, Peoplesoft, SAP) is going to be easy and straight forward.

SAC support allows you to ensure that your company has the specialized support during and after implementation, which means that your company will not stop its operations due to the operation of the system, since, in case of doubts or problems with the system , the team of experts will solve them in the shortest possible time.
Continuous support is very important, since it allows to obtain the maximum performance of the solution and to obtain a balance between the functionality, the performance of the tool and an efficient support service.
SAP has a specialized team dedicated exclusively to providing advice to support staff and end users, solving technical and operational problems and providing support in the additional requirements is an added value for your business that gives way to continuous improvement and maximum use of the system.

Alternatives Considered

Oracle Analytics Server

At the time we made the decision, we also evaluated other tools such as QlikView and SAP Power BI. But since our main solutions are Oracle (ERP, planning, consolidation), it was natural to adopt OBI. And it was also less expensive than the others.
Federico Shortrede | TrustRadius Reviewer

SAP Analytics Cloud

This tool does not match up to its competitors like microstrategy and Tableau when it comes to data visualization. It takes more time and effort creating dashboards and building schema objects in this tool. It is not as easy to learn as other competitive tools. Implementation is also not as smooth as other data visualization tools and platforms available on the market. Creating ad-hoc reports is not as quick and easy compared to its competitors.

Return on Investment

Oracle Analytics Server

  • We've used OBIEE (or it's previous named product) for over 13 years and it's still the most used tool for BI by the business.
  • We moved our largest business system off of Business Object into OBI so we could gain improved performance, reliability, and easier management of metadata.
Mary BrowningSmith | TrustRadius Reviewer

SAP Analytics Cloud

  • Multiple SAP sources can be connected into one software.
  • No lag time with data or analytics. Crucial for our real estate market which is always changing.
  • The only negative ROI would be the training and steep learning curve we had to invest in this.
