Oracle
We had been slowly implementing Oracle products to replace several existing systems and so we needed a platform that would work to integrate across all of these solutions. Our company is fairly large and we work with a variety of clients and vendors as well. We needed an easier way for everyone to access information and discuss what data and future integration were most appropriate.

If your organization has a lot of SAP talent, and you want to bring together SAP and non-SAP skills together to build solutions, BTP is ideal for you. If you have SAP solutions in your IT landscape, using partner add-ons built on BTP makes it simple to rollout. If you currently don't have SAP talent in your organization, and you are using other cloud platforms already, then BTP ma not be your choice.

Pros
Oracle
  • Oracle Cloud Platform can provide consistent latency guarantees in multiple geographics.
  • It works well with Oracle Database that is being used as the primary database without the need for custom configuration.
  • Oracle Cloud Platform has reasonable customization options to fine-tune it for workloads that require very low latency for events/transactions.

  • Authentication options - In the past, we needed to really leverage our own solutions for MFA and other security measures, but now, out-of-the-box these options are really good and readily available.
  • Ease of use - the interface has been adjusted to be really easy on the eyes but also simpler, less convoluted, and really well thought out.
  • Modernized SAP experience - compared to the old stuff, SAP is really modernizing all of the experiences. The new house style is rejuvenated, and the company is really becoming more likable compared to 10 years ago!
  • SAP Discovery and Missions are a real treat to see what the upcoming costs are!

Cons
Oracle
  • Going with any Oracle Cloud Platform Solution for BI Implementation, I would prefer a strong/powerful Oracle tool to push data in Oracle Cloud Datawarehouse.
  • There are chances of overage charges on using the Oracle Cloud Platform, if you choose to implement any services with non-allocated core CPU. So expect to give some alert before even allowing to implement any service with not allocated core CPU or remove the displaying of non-allocated CPUs for users.
  • It can allow options where Oracle Cloud storage container username password as never expired.

SAP
  • The almost mandatory use of HANA services to run CAP applications. It would be best to provide extensive support for other databases.
  • The subspace landing page/cockpit is not so user friendly. Provides a lot of information and usually is hard to find where things are.
  • Downtimes should be shorter.

If you already have considerable Oracle licenses, then Oracle Cloud Platform is the best option. If most of your applications and needs are Windows-based, then Microsoft Azure is the best choice. Google GCP is on par with Oracle Cloud Platform in various features, including global reach. Cisco Hybrid Cloud Platform is an excellent choice if you have some interesting network requirements for the application to be deployed.

SAP Concur allows our staff to book, reimburse and remain spend audit compliant. Our Concur system takes feed from Workday and interacts with Credit card vendor. It also makes posting to Accounting and does clearing. SAP Business Technology Platform helped in establishing connection with all these different tools in real time. It helps in getting paid to the card service provider through our Bank through interface, which is built on SAP Business Technology Platform.

Oracle
  • I only used the trial version, but I liked the rich UI experience. It was easy to understand. I liked the fact that there are a lot of apps in the app store. A lot of brands use Oracle which leads to trust. It's also scalable.
  • As a consultant, this is something I can recommend to my customers over Amazon AWS Cloud because it has the built-in security that you don't have to buy separately.
  • Easy to integrate. My clients are looking for a one-stop ecosystem that can be used for everything including HR, Security, Analytics, Dashboards, and user experience. This saves me time as a consultant as well.

SAP
  • Positive: ease to deploy applications and integrations
  • Negative: PI/PO was much cheaper in our current contract. The message based pricing is understandable but difficult to quantity over time towards management
  • Positive: no firewalls you need to worry about to get integrations or APIs triggered but you need to be concious about this and take your own precautions
  • Negative: with integration suite SAP Business Technology Platform integration cell is announced meaning more responsibility to the customer to decide where to run what in which without certainty the current runtime will still be supported in the long run.
