Oracle Eloqua

It is well suited for marketing teams who want to be flexible, adaptable to changes in their business and create powerful, sophisticated campaigns to their clients. Teams that want to create automated drip campaigns with dynamic content and personalized cadence and messaging would find Eloqua very easy to use and perfect for their needs. It has powerful, in-depth reporting functionality and great CRM integration (note that I've had experience integrating only with Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Salesforce - both of these integrations worked very well) - so teams that use CRM will also find it complementary to their marketing technology stack.It will not be a good tool if a company doesn't use any CRM - as it is not a CRM replacement; or if all the marketing team is planning to do is "batch and blast" emails (which is a possible scenario for some very small businesses)

It's great for large field sales organizations that lack the ability to automate email sends that are consistent and on-brand. The idea of templated emails (with the ability to build custom emails) really helps keeps the look-and-feel of each email similar to what the rest of the organization is sending to customers or prospects. This isn't the solution that you'd need if you are looking for an automation tool that easily integrates into other marketing channels. The dynamic content feature is lagging far behind other tools in the space.

  • Campaign orchestration - of all the tools I've used it has by far the best combination of ability to create campaigns fast while making them as sophisticated as you want
  • Reporting - the new Insight tool allows you to be very granular and get to any level of data needed to make smart decisions
  • CRM integration - it is very robust and customizable so it is easy to troubleshoot and change as the business changes

  • Predictive intelligence - SFMC provides excellent analysis and recommendations through its AI assistant Einstein. The recommendations will help drive improvements in our marketing communications
  • API connectivity - we have integrated a number of 3rd parties via the API suite which proved easy to implement
  • Journey builder - the process of creating targeted campaigns is easy using the SFMC journey builder. Both native and external data is available in the same interface
  • Reporting - the suite of reports available to the users is comprehensive and allows us to make data-driven decisions

  • They recently went to a more impersonal account management model. This really stinks. Not that our CSM was really that great but based on the fact that it was always nice that you had one person who was in your corner if something really went wrong.
  • The topliners community used to be really strong and would provide a TON of support for Eloqua users. Now, you can wait weeks before anyone replies to a question or issue that's posted.
  • Eloqua support used to be very robust. Now, it seems like they are just trying to close as many tickets as possible and are very quick to respond with, "Oh, no that's not our issue." or "You are going to have to ask a partner to help you with that!"
  • Eloqua has failed to innovate....it USED to be THE platform to go with. Now, Marketo has really stepped up and brought some innovative features to the marketing automation area such as a more user-friendly email builder, landing page builder, and ABM capabilities.

  • Deliverability reports - before sending emails they are checked for known issues and deliverability performance. The SFMC offering is ok but could be better. There additional software that can be purchased which should be included as part of the offering
  • SF should make it easier to integrate other clouds i.e commerce cloud and service cloud. The implementation of commerce cloud has improved but I still feel there is a way to go

The transition to Oracle Support has been a bit rough. It's not quite as easy as it used to be when Eloqua was running the show. If it doesn't get any more difficult and the quality of support is maintained, there will be no issue. But if support quality is degraded over throughout the rest of our term, that will be a major consideration when it comes time to renew.

I think the tool is easy to use, protects a company from the spam legislation and manages subscribers very well. It is simple to create a non-complex email. I like the survey function on the email tool as well. Overall usability is quite easy and no necessary to have an IT background or extensive knowledge to use. It is helpful, though, to have an understanding of HTML for formatting at this point.

Upgrades and timing of the upgrades were communicated well and planned during off hours for our work. If we did have a campaign scheduled during that time, it would kick-off after the system was back active. There were a few unplanned system down times, but it was a rare occurrence and those times were also short in duration.

Exact Target performs well and is relatively easy to learn. It handles subscriber management well, and is easy to organize lists and segregation of those subscribers. Emails are easy to classify and group together for re-use or resending to different demographics of the recipients. The product is reliable, and metrics of the campaign results are easy to obtain and interpret.

Easy to implement, with simple emails and solutions initially created. More advanced usage of the tool and more advanced subscriber attribute usage was implemented during later phases when the knowledge of the tool increased. Monitoring success and results of email campaigns were done at a high level initially, but not fully used until the tool and email marketing as a whole was better understood in the corporation.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Studio is great for track-ability metrics, as we use the Salesforce CRM. It is far superior to Mailchimp but pretty different than Marketo, so much so I would actually not consider them competitors. Marketo is used for a more Account-Based personalized approach to our outreach efforts.

The tools is easy to use and the recipient list size is really not a factor in the complexity or work to create and email campaign. Our campaigns could just have easily been sent to many more people, with virtually no additional work.

  • Automated the campaign process to create a far better experience than if it was done manually for over 20,000 customers.
  • Great improvement in lead management & lead scoring - this only started to really be put under a microscope 2 years ago by marketing leadership & while some of the concepts were new to the team, Eloqua was already perfectly capable of aiding in this. Now scores are generated around: Title, Type of content requested, amount of content requested, reoccurring/frequency - all used to fit our needs in a formula around the campaigns in Eloqua.
  • Also, another great little use case for Eloqua, say a salesperson has a VIP customer that they are worried about, with Eloqua - a marketer could show sales how that one VIP is engaging over time. Has there been a sudden dropoff of opening emails, visiting the site, etc. or is the VIP still engaging as per usual & just not interested in the salesperson pitch?
