Considered Both Products
Paycom
Chose Paycom
We ultimately chose Paycom over Paylocity because we felt the user experience (both administrative and employee) was more intuitive. And we also felt an authenticity from all individuals at Paycom who met with us prior to our decision.
Chose Paycom
Paylocity is more visually appealing but Paycom is far superior in every other way! Paycom has better reporting features, makes payroll super easy, makes it easier for employees to see their payroll information and file, and has better customer service. I have enjoyed my time …
Chose Paycom
ADP and Paylocity are terrible, especially in comparison to Paycom! Both are piece-milled systems that are archaic. I had a terrible experience with both systems and, in all honesty, when I look for another job if they are using either of these systems it will be a deal-breaker …
Chose Paycom
After using all the big-name platforms when I was doing HR consulting, Paycom is my favorite. The only one that comes close is Paylocity, but I choose Paycom due to the better customer service and ease of use of the platform.
Chose Paycom
Paycom seems to be more robust than Paylocity and offers more of the features we need and could use. Paychex Flex didn't offer all the areas we were looking for and doesn't have the features we want. We were looking for a system that could perform well in several areas of HR, …
Chose Paycom
In my opinion, UKG and ADP our the worst products, customer service is terrible. They could literally pay me to use their product and I would still choose Paycom over them. Paylocity was our number 2 pick. They seemed like they could have done an ok job, but Paycoms ease …
Chose Paycom
Paycom is very similar to ADP but better. ADP was more rigid in certain areas. I did not have issues with ADP.
Paylocity... their system was falling apart. I would get kicked out of the time card system, holiday pay would remove itself from an employees time card and I was …
Chose Paycom
In my opinion, ADP is a clunky system that has many positives, but overall I think it is not user friendly and doesn't have the majority of the tools we want as we continued pushing our company forward. I believe Paycom has many more tools, is more user friendly and our …
Chose Paycom
We selected Paycom for its functional, user-friendly platform. They continue to make improvements and add features that are beneficial to HR and Payroll professionals.
Chose Paycom
Paycom offers better customer service and account management, better overall communication, more efficient services; implementation was outstanding, the people who handled our account and implementation were always so helpful, knowledgeable, available and made us feel heard and …
Chose Paycom
We selected Paycom because of the user-friendly features for HR staff and all employees. It has been easy to implement, learn, and utilize. We also are saving significant money by switching to Paycom.
Chose Paycom
Paycom was the service that met all of our needs at the best value. Others are more expensive or lacked all of the operational items that we wanted to cover.
Chose Paycom
Paycom is head and shoulders above the above mentioned products. Other products over promise and under deliver, are not as user friendly or do not have as many modules as Paycom.
Chose Paycom
I find Paycom's software to be easier to understand and use. The process of actually running payroll is super simplified and easy to manipulate.
Chose Paycom
Paycom had the best options and ended up being the most user friendly solution for all of our users.
Chose Paycom
Paycom has greater functionality than the other companies, plus their application is owned/managed by Paycom and does not include external third-party software plug-ins, which is something that was very important to our company.
Chose Paycom
Paycom was better suited to our needs at the time. The cost, both initial setup and annual cost, were less than both of the other companies we interviewed.
Chose Paycom
They are all very similar. The personal touch is where Paycom excels and that is why we choose them.
Chose Paycom
We ended up selecting Paycom as we thought it was the best match for our organization. We were looking at a few factors: service, communication, technology, functions/capabilities, reporting and of course financials. While Paycom wasn't the cheapest option, in fact, one of the …
Chose Paycom
We ultimately chose Paycom because of the level of customer support and training as well as the robustness of the system. Very intuitive for the payroll and HR admin sections.
Chose Paycom
I did not personally participate in the evaluations but am confident our team made the right decision with Paycom.
Paylocity
Chose Paylocity
Paycom looked very dated but had decent functionality. BambooHR is for smaller companies. Paylocity was a great price and platform switching from ADP TotalSource. Used Paycor at another company I worked for an did not have great customer service experience.
Chose Paylocity
From what I have used, Paycom is the one closest but I still prefer Paylocity because is way more user-friendly with Payroll processing, timesheets, accruals, and reporting. Paycom is cumbersome, the customer service is just okay and the platform is "rigid", employees don't …
Chose Paylocity
The reason we went with Paylocity over Paycom was we received better reviews on their customer support. I have used Paycom with other companies and found that it is decent software. Of course, any HRIS software is going to beat out QBs. QBs do not do well with groups of …
Chose Paylocity
Gusto is horrible, and Paylocity blows it out of the water. Paycom and Paycor and comparable, but for us it came down to the price, and the relationship that we established with our account manager and sales representative. Mike Vezzoli was excellent and was incredibly genuine …
Chose Paylocity
Paycom is superior to Paylocity but Paycom is very expensive. We chose Paylocity because it is affordable and came from a co-workers recommendation.
Chose Paylocity
Friendlier user interphase. It is easier to automate manual, time-consuming tasks and customize workflows to streamline all the areas of the organization. It keeps employees connected Effortlessly, with communication and collaboration tools they actually enjoy using. Paylocity …
Chose Paylocity
ADP did not have the ease of use when it came to submittal of travel and expenses and tracking. Paylocity has been a game changer for me in this process allowing employees to enter the information and uploading the necessary paperwork, thus less room for errors. Employees are …
Chose Paylocity
They are mostly parity. But it's difficult to walk away from always-on-demand live account manager.
Chose Paylocity
It works more effectively for medium-to-large size companies.
Chose Paylocity
The employee interface is easier for employees to use and understand. Provides them with the access needed to edit their information. Encourages employees and managers to participate in different areas, such as performance reviews and time keeping. The ability to track …
Chose Paylocity
I think that Paylocity offers better UI (User Interface), better Payroll services and Report pickups. Although employee records and onboarding process all really seem similar, I think Paylocity stands out because of the attention to detail that agents really help us out. I love …
Chose Paylocity
Price Ease of system commitment to a long-term relationship.
Chose Paylocity
Pricing and ease of use were much better with Paylocity.
Chose Paylocity
Better than Paycor. Paycom does allow api worse than High5 for performance, not as strong as UKG, ADP is terrible.
Chose Paylocity
Paylocity is far and above these. the reporting structure and the service level is the main seperation
Chose Paylocity
We selected Paylocity primarily because of the cost and capabilities. All of our options had very similar features. One of our most important items for selection was customer service. Our implemenation team was fantastic, but we didn't have the greatest customer service after …
Chose Paylocity
I ventured into Paylocity because I thought they would be able to cut my time with the prevailing wage. Not many companies can help in that area, but I found out Paylocity is limited, and they oversold this function. However, I did choose Paylocity because it seemed more …

Paycom
Paycom (Perry Watson) has been the most reliable one-on-one person that I, in 33 years, have ever had to work with. Paycom's platform is great, user-friendly, and easy to explain to employees who are not tech-savvy. Employees love the part where they get to see their check and approve it before they ever receive it. Our company is very different, and Paycom has helped me build a system where it is going to save time and money going forward.

Paylocity
As mentioned, Paylocity is great as a payroll service for getting employees paid and also for them to get information using their self-service. Definitely could be improvements in the ATS/recruiting piece of the plaform. Paylocity is a payroll first platform and recruiting is an add-on, so the functionality is not as good as it is with stand-along ATS.

Paycom
  • Customer Support- Jaco Lau and Jeff Sullins have been highly responsive to all of our needs and customizations
  • Customization capabilities - we have had to build an End-To-End performance management system that now fits and meets our needs
  • Functionality - the tools and intuitive use of Paycom makes for a great user-experience. Our employees are already embracing it and have expressed gratitude for moving to this new platform.

Cons
Paycom
  • Update alert system for employees. When and employee misses a clock in so he/she requests a missed punch correction, the alert saying missed punch will continue to pop up at the employee until a manager approves said punch request. It confuses employees and makes them think they didn't request the punch so they do it again. It should not keep alerting said employee if he/she made a change to fix it. If anything, it should alert the manager until said requests are approved and/or denied.
  • Provide the employees pay rate in the edit grid layout section of payroll

  • As a super admin in Paylocity, I would like the ability to not just archive items, but delete them completely. We would like to clean-up the space and get rid of some of the default items we do not use.
  • Not necessarily an issue, but for those people who have ever created an event packet in the on-boarding module know my struggle. It is not completely user friendly. I would like to see a preview of what the employee would see before launching the packets to new hires.
  • Benefits. When I change a new hire in the system before they have elected their benefits, it takes at least 24 hours to show up and doesn't always allow them to launch their open enrollment.

We've made the mistake of moving away from Paycom to a PEO which had made a lot of promises, that they could not keep. Less than a year after that transition, we returned to Paycom and are happier than ever.

We have had many issues with the way our platform was set up at implementation that still continue to plague us. In addition, our benefits, in particular our FSA, have been mis-managed causing a balance due from an employee (and also a lot of work for our accounting and HR team, as well as stress for the employee). Our service rep continues to answer incorrectly on many fronts (original response is usually check out this paylocity article, vs. helping) and recently our COBRA management was mishandled (not adding Dental to a person on Cobra who had requested it). So- all in all...we are not particularly happy w/ Paylocity

Usability
Paycom
The system is very user friendly. Once you navigate where your information is stored under the forms you are golden. While the training amplified my capabilities and knowledge, I could have jumped into the system without and training and managed just fine. This probably one of my favorite parts about Paycom!

Paylocity
Overall, in my experience, Paylocity has been easy to use for both staff and administrators. First, the staff has an application and inputting Paid Time Off is easy to do. I then get an alert on my app and I am able to approve it on the spot from my app that gives me access as an employee and an administrator without having to use multiple apps or logins. As an administrator I think the portal is easy to use, Paylocity did a great job showing me tools and rolling out training classes before rollout.

Paycom
Our TSR has been wonderful to work with. Every step of the
way he was quick to respond and answer any questions we had. I knew I could
reach him at any time (day or night) and he would be available to assist.
Implementing a new HRIS system is obviously a huge task and I contribute all
our success to our rep Kurt! Of course, with any implementation, there were
bumps along the way and issues. But I always knew we would work as a team to
get those issues figured out. Working in the Paycom system has been smooth and
easy to learn and I enjoy the employee self-service interface. Our managers
have had positive things to say and are all excited about the changes we have
been able to make to our organization due to Paycom being implemented.

The training was live online, but was with a group of other companies. We did not receive any personalized training with our team. Whenever we would ask for training, we would be sent a peak article link or a video. It felt like the reps we dealt with didn't know the answer to the questions.

Paycom's customer service model surpasses ADP's by leaps and bounds. I went from spending significant amounts of time on the phone with ADP customer service to contacting my Paycom specialist on as needed basis. Paycom is also far more intuitive to use that ADP Workforce Now and I have much more control in the system than I did previously. Paycom's reporting capabilities are also outstanding in comparison to ADP's. The system as a whole is overall a superior product in comparison to what we utilized previously

The reason we went with Paylocity over Paycom was we received better reviews on their customer support. I have used Paycom with other companies and found that it is decent software. Of course, any HRIS software is going to beat out QBs. QBs do not do well with groups of employees over 250.

Return on Investment
Paycom
  • Saved time, 2 person HR department so time is limited. With reduced time for onboarding we have been able to focus on other areas.
  • Improved employee satisfaction- employees enjoy the ease of use of the system and the ability to use on their phones.
  • Reduced background check/drug screening costs- prior providers were absorbent in the amount we paid compared to Paycom.

  • Onboarding has reduced the paperwork that managers had previously had to take care of and payroll had to manually enter. This has significantly reduced hours of work and reduced errors.
  • Data insights creates reports that are very easy to view and give quick insights. This again reduces hours of work on management.
  • The ease of use for uploading payroll is minutes instead of hours at other companies. Overall, a huge time saver.
