We used a competing product before that was much easier to use. We switched just to combine the protection service we had with them with the preexisting email encryption services we already had with Zix and was able to negotiate a better price. The encryption piece was the …

Proofpoint
It is great out of the box and uses AI and machine learning to identify threats with minimal input. It does need to be configured and tuned to meet the needs of the organisation. Industry specific software that sends or receives emails may be affected by this product.

I have already recommended Zix to a number of our coworkers in the home healthcare industry, and a number of those coworkers also use Zix, which makes it quite simple to connect with one another. Because it pertains to health care, which is an industry in which it is vital to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity, we also utilize it within our own organization to communicate with one another.

  • Spam filtering.
  • Automatic retrieval of malicious emails that have gotten through the filter but were later detected using sample data across all the organizations Proofpoint has as customers.

  • Makes it easy for those receiving emails to create an account and retrieve the email.
  • Peace of mind knowing emails are secure, and can be tracked.
  • Monitoring inbound email threats is easy.
  • Support has been very quick resolving or explaining support tickets I've created.

  • Ease of use. Other competitors platform is WAY easier to use and customize.
  • You have to cover THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION with coverage, even though only a handful will need to use email encryption
  • The Zix Protect platform is a complete joke to customize and use.

It did delivers exactly what is needed, what was promised, is cost effective, and is incredibly easy to use and manage.

Usability
Proofpoint
Proofpoint offers a lot of products, but they are not particularly well integrated. They all look different, and there is no central location to access them all from, which is disappointing. However, I do know they have a big push for upgrading the UI and usability, so this should improve in the coming months I hope.

It is much simpler to configure and operate in comparison to other anti-spam applications. Zix's customer usage is comparable to that of other spam filters on the market; but, in terms of convenience of use, Zix comes out on top. Daily delivery of logs is provided, and the user is not required to sign in order for an email to be sent.

Support Rating
Proofpoint
Even though the product is good, the support can be lacking at times. The support needs to know their product inside and out, but there are times in which we figure out things before their support does. I feel as if we should not be able to fix issues that their support cant fix, hence the main reason for support.

Zix is very good about response times and information. They even proactively e-mail us about known issues. I have never had an issue go unresolved, and the support team tends to answer quickly unless it's a strange, complicated request. The only time that happened was doing a search through logs, and that was entirely on me and my unfamiliarity with their flavor of Linux.

Proofpoint's Advanced Threat Protection, in the past, has identified threats whereby Microsoft's Advanced Threat Protection did not.

Cost is competitive, but factoring in Office licensing really made sense for my organization. Cost is lower for more features - I was able to move to Zix and get the top of the line package, moving from a mid-tier product at a competitor. Workflows and process have improved, and the filter is more accurate than our previous filter

Return on Investment
Proofpoint
  • PP blocks 5-10 emails per day which are spam or malicious
  • I only get a small number of emails per week which are spam
  • The only malicious emails I receive are from our internal security team which bypasses the PP threat protection

  • Recommended Zix as secure email resource to the salesforce and seems to have been nicely adopted.
  • Peace of mind that some emails are hopefully getting encrypted and that we are more secure than we were before...sometimes. Again, there should be some indication to the sender that their information was sent securely. Even if it is a pop up or something.
