The biggest thing that Rubrik gave us over using Veeam is the secure appliances. We don't have to have another server to manage that simply runs the backup software, we have a managed appliance with a single update interface. Veeam backup and restore works just as well, but …
We felt the solution provided by Rubrik better aligned with our business needs. Nothing wrong with the other solutions. But we thing we've made the right decision.

Veeam was good product, but we felt Rubrik fit a little better for us.

We have has different quotes for other products as well. But when compared with Rubrik all are quite expensive and doesn't offer many features what are given in Rubik. And no trainings provided as part of deployment. Rubrik gave us trainings during and post deployment which is …
We found that Veeam was way cheaper but the UI and backup interface were nowhere near as powerful as Rubrik. Rubrik is a higher investment there is no question about that but if people are looking for a detailed backup environment that is very powerful from an enterprise level …
Rubrik is very seamless and is super easy to connect to a VM environment. I find it is easier to configure and maintain than Veeam. One of the main reasons we selected Rubrik was the ease of deployment and the added ransomware protection. Ransomware attacks are on the rise …

Rubrik was by far the easiest to set up and use and most simple solution we tested.
Rubrik is far superior. Veeam is a great product, but Rubrik is much easier to manage and deploy and has a much higher backup success rate and far fewer time to remediate failures.
We spent six months evaluating our options between these vendors, doing demos and reviews wherever we could.

Veritas NetBackup has been the main backup technology in our company for over 10 years. However Rubrik is better adapted to new technologies such as hybrid clouds, native cloud protection or noSQL databases. Also the operational cost of managing Rubrik is far less than NetBackup …

At the time, Rubrik had the most focused vision and execution from what we could tell. They had a modern approach and being a newer company, [they] weren't carrying legacy code with them. A single, polished, web GUI that was fast and easy to use was a big differentiator. …

Similar in ability to cover all of our needs. Veeam would have required investment in hardware/storage and servers. With Rubrik the solution was delivered as a ready to deploy solution.
For the feature set that we needed, both products were able to provide them. Rubrik allowed us to drop in managed appliances instead of building up Windows Servers and additional storage products. This allowed us to spin up Rubrik faster and easier. Being the new kid on the …

We moved from a previous version of IBM Spectrum Protect. While Spectrum Protect was immensely powerful and configurable (think Chernobyl) it required a similarly immense amount of babysitting. One wrong knob turn and catastrophic results could occur. This level of complexity …
With the exception of Backup Exec's GRT I rate all features of Rubrik above the competitors i have used. To restore single mail items one must mount the volume/DB into a Kroll server (License provided on request from Rubrik)

Veeam just did not seem to fit well in our environment, and we had multiple issues with their support and recovery functionality of their product. Rubrik definitely is a leading contender compared to Veeam, and we would [stay] with this product in the future.

Compared to Veeam, Rubrik is an easier product to manage when the environment grows. Veeam tends to get complicated with proxy nodes. It's easier to set up SLAs on Rubrik. Veeam works great but it is harder to troubleshoot if you don’t have the knowledge.
Rubrik is direct replacement of VEEAM. But bare metal recovery of CommVault was better.

At the time we became customer (in 2017), Rubrik was the only one supporting Nutanix AHV and the only one proposing SLA-style protection of objects. What we still love about Rubrik against veeam is the fact that Rubrik is coming as a full turnkey solution with storage included …

Rubrik is like comparing apples and oranges to other products, no comparison. Try it you will see.

Tivoli Storage Manager performs OK for file-level backups but, try to do a bare-metal restore, and you are sure to run into some issues with it. The GUI console is excellent for a Windows guy, but to achieve its full potential, you need to be a command-line guru
Unlike many of the vendors above, Veeam is providing a solution that scales from one workload to hundreds and fits comprehensively in any of the spaces between without compromising the core functionality and feature set that makes it such a great product. Veeam are confident in …
The speed of restoring data and simplicity to kick that off is hands down the best. The intuitive nature of the system to recognize a missing VM and to auto flag it as a relic to reduce log clutter and distractions. I honestly don't look at it often due to the stability of the system.
Where its less suited would be the full feature set is only for VMware, with the recent approval from Nutanix as a partner there have been a lot of growth adding function for AHV VMs. Custom reporting doesn't seem to be as feature rich as other processes along with the YARA rules coding for threat hunting.
In the past, when I looked at Veeam Backup & Replication, it did not support physical servers, only VMs. But now that it supports physical servers, we are able to use it. We are using it to send copies of our backups to our cloud for redundancy because it is so fast; our previous backup software was very slow sending backups to the cloud, making it useless for us. The granularity of being able to save SQL backups has really helped us, so we don't have to rely on SQL native backups.
AHV backup functionality is not equivalent to ESXi. It uses a different distinct console and is not compatible with some advanced features such as SureBackup.
License renewal experience in the conversion between the legacy model and the new universal license has been very poor. We were forced to pay a significant fee to allow backups of AHV targets, but other than the change in hypervisor there was no improvement in functionality. In fact we have less since SureBackup is not supported with AHV workloads.
Added tools to assist in hardening the server and isolating it from inside threats would be nice to have. Most of this needs to be manually worked through to ensure an internal compromise does not also impact your backups.
I gave rating do to the following: The product works great with little time needed to manage to be sure that backups work. Customer is very helpful and respond quickly to resolve errors or answer product questions. The continued education that Rubrik continue to offer such as training, webinars, and blogs.
I really have no complaints about Veeam Backup & Replication. Their service has been excellent and the cost is minimal in comparison to other services I checked out. Implementation wasn't simple and the Veeam Support team was there to help each step of the way.
Rubrik has a simple to use interface and day to day management is very simple yet it doesn't sacrifice flexibility. Expanding capacity as data grows is very easy and does not require downtime. Upgrading is simple and efficient. Setup and configuration are straight forward.
Veeam is fairly simple in terms of how it is set up; its not an overly-complicated dashboard that can be intimidating to less technically-inclined users. Veeam also offers good instructional videos to help users work through how to do specific functions. I appreciate that they have specific video tutorials rather than having users scroll through a cumbersome manual.
The Veeam Backup & Replication solution is up and running every time you need it as it was planned. In more than 3 years that we have been using the product every night, it might have failed or presented an error once or twice, so the availability percentage is almost at 100%.
Veeam does a good job with backing up our servers in a timely manner. We are still at the beginning of our Veeam use and are pleased with the speed at which we can access the system as well as the backups and restore points. Veeam is definitely superior to our previous backup system in terms of speed and accessibility
Rubrik support is hands down some of the best product support we have. They know their product and are quick to assist. Submitting support cases is easier and they are very responsive. You don't have to use Rubrik support often but when you do they have your back.
Support response can be slow and sometimes tedious if you have a non-generic issue in your environment. Due to my experience with Veeam, I often discover the solutions before support does, but on the rare occasion where I need a higher tier of support, their experience and skill set are excellent. If you truly find something odd in your environment, Veeam Support, Development and their teams of engineers will figure it out and provide custom hot-fixes when necessary.
From experience the implementation was smooth and easy, like a simple plug and play format but would need coordination from your network team to be able to see the entire IT infrastructure.
(I assume this question should say "Veeam" and not "Crownpeak Universal Consent Platform") Planning is key. Planning your backup schedule, size, data restore points, replication if you're doing that, &c. Testing is also important; make sure you back something up and then do a test restore. Set up alerts so you know if things aren't working (or even if they are, always good to know that too).
Rubrik has smaller footprint of hardware compared to the competition and ease of operations. The software is a bit more stable and allows the scaling of the infra in a much easier way and manage. The polaris tool / reporting module is very easy for management to look at the statistics and get the meat of the information from the overall operations
We used Zerto and CA Arcserve to address these needs without migrating to Veeam Backup & Replication. Zerto is a very successful instant backup and we are still using it now. It does what Veeam application cannot do in instant replication. CA Arcserve, on the other hand, is clearly lagging behind the Veeam Backup & Replication product and does not meet today's requirements.
the only downside with a hardware+software all in one solution is having to pay for more licensing if you need more disk space instead of just adding space. other than that it's great
Very easy to add new 'briks' (or nodes as everyone else calls them :P) as long as the network is plugged in and configured, the briks will discuss among themselves and welcome the new comer into the cluster
In terms of scalability for our company, Veeam was able to cover our backup needs with ease. They have options for even more individualized backup if we were to need them; i.e. if a specific workstation needs its own independent backup. We have not used these resources yet, but I am confident they will be beneficial to our company in the near future.
This solution was comparable in price to other solutions we examined and offered features not available from some other leading backup providers.
This has increased the speed with which I can restore files and especially entire virtual machines (literally seconds to spin up a restore instead of often over an hour with Avamar) so less downtime for customers who need help.
While (thankfully) we haven't had to use it, this also offers ransomware detection and protection.
Single Sign-On integration allows us to use our existing 2FA to increase security.
