Considered Both Products
Procore
Chose Procore
We selected Procore because it offered a complete project management and bidding software program. It didn't offer pieces but a complete picture of each project. The mobile and web option was a big reason for the choice.
Chose Procore
Procore was the first platform we witnessed that appeared to be designed by, or at least in tandem, with construction professionals. The tool itself fits in with how construction operations staff currently do their work and require minimal training in order to roll-out. We also …
Chose Procore
Since Procore attempts to be an all-in-one solution, it comes with more capability than just about any other system we have seen or used. However, that does not always mean it is better. Using PlanGrid as an example, Procore's plan viewing is inferior to the more professional …
Chose Procore
As a project management professional with a background in architecture and design, I strongly believe in a good user interface. Procore offers more tools and industry-related procedures and standards than Sage, and its interface is a lot friendlier and easier to browse through, …
Chose Procore
Sage doesn't even compare to Procore. Procore is a 10 and sage is a 0. We selected Procore because it would be more beneficial for the whole company, including the field, instead of just office personnel.
Chose Procore
Procore takes all of these programs and combines them into 1. It is very user-friendly and allows subs to see what the contractor wants them to see and nothing more. These other programs have their individual strengths but having all of them together on one platform that has …
Chose Procore
We have used Oracle Primavera Contract Management and Procore is light years ahead of that software in every aspect.
Chose Procore
Procore is more up to date with today's technology. It is easier to use and more user friendly
Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate
Chose Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate
We have spent quite a bit of time in the last year evaluating a new system to see if this is the best fit for us. We currently use Procore for our project management tool and for our field crew to evaluate work on-site. However, Procore does not have a sufficient budgeting or …
Chose Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate
In the case of Procore vs. Sage it's like apples and oranges. Procore is not an accounting software although they do offer some accounting tie-ins to Sage's data so it's possible for a company to use both but the cost of that is astronomical, Sage already having a larger …
Chose Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate
The pricing is low compared to other systems we have evaluated. However, we have not evaluated competitive software in some time.
Chose Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate
Connectwise is much more user-friendly, reporting features are more robust and exportable formats work well. I would choose Connectwise over Sage any day of the week.
Chose Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate
To be completely honest, I think Sage is worse than JD Edwards. The user interface is by far the worst I have seen in this industry. It's as if every other company lives in 2019 and Sage is living in 1998. The largest flaw I have seen in a program that debilitates the program …

Procore Technologies
Procore is well suited when there is an office staff to manage the application, if a company existed without an office staff then the field crews would have to maintain Procore. This could cause more problems than is solves. Otherwise having the ability to pick & choose different modules to suit our use cases is ideal

Sage
Sage is not at all well suited for small companies who want an agile, nimble setup for quick moving situations and mobile use. These type of companies should look elsewhere such as a SaaS offering from another vendor. In addition Sage is very expensive both in its initial outlay and ongoing support. Medium and larger sized companies benefit from a Sage install much more than the smaller constructor. Having the modules all work in unison is important when a company is of a certain size as is having the long tenured support structure. In addition Sage requires the terminals services setup to use it remotely and the larger companies are more likely to have the infrastructure and support for that type of setup

Pros
Procore Technologies
  • Submittals, Easily able to track and keep a running record of documentation.
  • RFI's ability to track costs and impacts to the project in one useful tool.
  • Keeping all items for a job in one location. I love that Procore is my one-stop shopping for all items related to my project.

Sage
  • There are a lot of ways to drill down into information. The ability to run inquiries that can be easily exported into Excel is incredibly useful.
  • The help desk is very helpful. There are multiple ways to get a hold of someone and it is extremely useful.
  • The knowledgebase articles are very helpful and provide a lot of great detail.

Cons
Procore Technologies
  • Downloading drawing sets sometimes involves an extra step that holds up the process
  • The dashboard is simplistic to the point that I don't feel like I am getting enough information about a specific project from the get-go
  • Granting access to a project on Procore is not very straightforward as a consultant- restrictions sometimes cause hold-ups

Sage
  • Lack of data validation and controls
  • Extremely limited report configuration without significant customization
  • Too many arbitrary limits like vendor name that forced partial names into the address
  • Very outdated UI
  • Very siloed forcing users to open different applications for different functions

Likelihood to Renew
Procore Technologies
We will undoubtedly renew Procore as it has proven itself to be a means to better track and improve upon our efficiency and communications between job sites and their project managers as well as all other departments. Procore has made an incredible impact on how we, as a company, do our job on all levels; it is one of our most powerful and effective resources.

Usability
Procore Technologies
90% of Procore is very intuitive and any user can pick it up and go. There are a few elements, more so on the Financials side that need some prior knowledge of systems in order to understand how and why it functions as it does. Once this is understood, it flows effortlessly

Sage
Sage is somewhat easy to use as far as its simplicity, however, when I first started using it I really wished there were more training materials available. As I did research to figure out what resources were there to learn how to use the paid software, all I found were courses you have to pay for. In my personal opinion, I don't think you should have to pay to learn how to use a software you bought.

Reliability and Availability
Procore Technologies
If you are working in an area with little to no signal, Procore will still allow you to get in the system and use it fully and will then update once you are at a place with a strong enough signal. Whether it be with wifi or LTE cell phone reception.

Support Rating
Procore Technologies
General Support for Project Management and Financials is consistent. The ERP support is never consistent and I do end up at times in a black hole. I have to continually reach out to get the issue resolved or get an update. The ERP support needs more of Procore's attention

They have a very quick, responsive team that assists. They also have great higher-level engineers who assist in more complicated matters and all in all, you need a support team that is quick to respond when you are in the middle of business crises.

In-Person Training
Procore Technologies
Procore's Implementation Team does a great job of ensuring users are confident in using the system. They run through a process of training sessions based on the tools you have purchased, and lay ou ta plan to help the power users configure the tool to suit the company's needs. They provide useful resources for certifications, support and ongoing training as well.

Online Training
Procore Technologies
Procore's certification program and focused how-to training videos allowed for easy training that did not feel overwhelming. The way the certification programs were broken up into small parts made it seem much less daunting to complete. The training feels focused and does not overload users with too much information all at once.

Iron out your cost code list in your accounting software before you link with Procore. Once the link is established that list is more or less permanent. Review the permission matrix carefully. It controls so much. You want to ensure the information provided to your users adequate but you also want to protect your sensitive data. Procore Financials are organized in a total contract value style. Any markup or Profit will need to be sent somewhere on your budget. This may be significantly different than the Cost budgeting that many contractors do

Alternatives Considered
Procore Technologies
Procore has a clearer user interface and a wider variety of tools than any program I've used. Procore also lives up to their name in terms of helpful and fast customer service. There is always a Procore rep. that is available to contact, making any problems just a mini hurdle.

Sage
We currently have Sage in place which handles the majority of our business needs on the back end, but compared to some others that are on the market like Builder Trend, it does lack the client facing side of the house. To make it a better product, a client facing portal would be best so they can be up to date.

  • The accounting functions (AP, AR, GL) are mature so it does a great job with core financials. The reports are flexible so it does a good job of providing flexibility in report writing. The application is written for a workgroup so multiple people can use it at the same time. The transaction detail is strong so that a transaction can be rolled back if necessary.
