It is not very well suited for a highly dynamic company. Suppose it's a startup, and your job is to just be everywhere and work as a generalist, and there are people like you in the company; it'll be hard to monitor and track those people in terms of constant updates regarding their roles and performance.

This is a great program if you have locations in different geographical areas. The ability to work with people at different locations is appreciated, and also there can be informal input that is requested, which Promantek can handle as well. I am at a loss to think of an area where this does not work well. There are several of our employees in the manufacturing areas that do not have computer access, and for those individuals, we simply print the review instead of having it online. This works fine but is not the forte of Promantek. However, any system these days that focusses on the online aspects of review writing will experience that as well.

  • They do a good job of rolling out new features, making sure everyone is aware of what it is, when it will happen, and providing materials.
  • They do a good job at getting their clients together and/or in touch with one another. This is always helpful to see what others have done and how it worked out, especially in the same sector of work.

  • Trakstar sends out a lot of automated reminders to participants, encouraging them to take notes and provide feedback on a regular basis.
  • Trakstar generates analysis (i.e., rater bais) automatically that would otherwise be labor intensive to do manually.
  • Trakstar has a feature that allows administrators to see what each individual employee sees - this is critical in ensuring that the performance review process goes smoothly.

  • Sometimes products are rolled out too fast - resulting in critical missing config options (ONB 2.0 as a great example). These missing configs can be highly dysfunctional until they are resolved - to avoid this, I recommend not using any product that hasn’t been established and fully supported for at least 2 years.
  • Performance and recruitment are still using a legacy XML supported format - which is fine end user functionality wise, but can be complex to support from an admin perspective - certain areas of these modules require partner support if you want to make upgrades or changes.
  • SF does a tremendous job at bell and whistle functionality - I often find most companies are not able to leverage more than 50-75% of the offerings though. There are however core functions or areas for improvement that are significantly less shiny but are much needed in various modules.

  • The reporting features are a bit weak. But you can download Excel-ready files to manipulate on your own.
  • The dashboard feature (prior to June 2013) was very nice, but missing in the latest version.
  • Automated reports, quarterly for example, would be nice to send to Senior Leadership (missing in the current version/requires manual input)

    Support is still lacking. If we don't have a critical business need where we're looking to license something new, there is no partnership with SuccessFactors. Unless of course you purchase the Platinum Support which we did not. It is difficult for us to take advantage of new functionality when we have professional services fees that will be incurred as a result. We're in a tough economy and our budgets are slim. We don't have wiggle room to add $5k here or $10k there. The overall integration into a total HCM solution is also lacking.

    SuccessFactors Employee Central gets a middle of the road rating from me because of the things it does really well - Training. It falls short with the objectives cascade and visibility amongst my reports. That's what brings it down to a 5. Objectives need to be clear and concise in order to gain buy-in from your reports, and SuccessFactors muddies that by poor delineation between cascaded attributes and my report's objectives. The whole objectives cascade can be reworked.

    Trakstar has been very responsive to my questions and support has been able to speak with me on the phone as needed. Also, when I told Trakstar that my employees were not delighted by the product, they did a special session with me to diagnose any issues and to make recommendations for how I could improve the tool's usefulness in my job.     I feel SAP SuccessFactors is catching up on the user interface and the flexibility that is available to configure and manage business processes. You can tell that SAP SuccessFactors is making a strong push to bring SAP forward from the very technical look and feel of legacy SAP HR products. There is a much clearer focus on the employee and non-HR users.

    • We have had few managers dread the review writing process! Sure, no one enjoys this and we all know that it is time-consuming, but Promantek has allowed less time spent in frustration and more time actually communicating effectively. There are areas where managers can make notes during the entire review process so that when the time to write the review is upon you, it is a much simpler task. This has allowed us to free up the time with managers to a certain degree which is always beneficial.
