Sisense

I believe Sisense is perfectly suited for any organization of any size that have access to the proper resources, as the tool is very expensive. The data connectors come in all shapes and sizes out of the box, which allows a great deal of data control within the ElastiCubes. Additionally, while the platform only runs on Windows platforms, the web application can be accessed on any client: mobile, Apple, Windows, etc. This allows a much more flexible user experience, resulting in data and dashboards reaching further than any other tool.

Microsoft Power BI

Power BI is great at dynamically reflecting real time data. It has wonderful views of data and can narrate a story that is powerful and impressive. Decisions can be made on the overall visuals shown. BI can show you where your sales are picking up while showing you areas to focus on. The quality of your BI dashboard tremendously improves with the overall quality of your incoming data. BI has great capability to share results across the organization in a secure and safe way in almost any computer platform. Mobile phones welcome too!

Pros

  • In particular, the ability to easily model data within the Sisense ElastiCube, re-build the data and see the changes reflected within our dashboards is great.
  • SiSense's ability to make short work of large data sets to answer questions is impressive.
  • Sisense allows you to easily pull data from multiple sources. If you have data, it can use it.
  • The filtering and formula capabilities within Sisense are strong.

  • First thing is, Power BI belongs to the Microsoft family, which makes it easy for the user to acquaint with the advanced features and implement them to get insights faster on the available data.
  • Issues in the application can be resolved faster due to the expert availability at Microsoft.
  • The ability of the application to connect to various sources (internal and external) helps to get real-time updates faster, based on user requirements.

Cons

  • The development and maintenance of complex and generic analytic cubes could be improved.
  • Export of data and visualisations to pdf and csv is possible. However the functionality is basic and limited.
  • No time format/datatype available. This requires JavaScript code to make it work.
  • JavaScript add-ons for bucket analysis and Gantt charts are limited and not supported.
  • Very limited trellis functionality
  • Cube field names cannot be changed without impacting the dashboards. Impact analysis is not available in standard software package.
  • Cannot rebuild cubes without making cube inaccessible during rebuild period.

  • Technology is always evolving, you cannot get the final product in one go. Need constant review to meet the unique & changing business requirements.
  • Need to focus on similar applications of competitors, and try to embed features, which are more robust and advanced.
  • Need more Data Visualization (Statistical & Built-in graphs) with various categories to pick and choose from. So that even the average user can also use the too.

Likelihood to Renew

Sisense8.9
Based on 14 answers
I rated it a 4 out of 10 because we did not renew the contract due to price. It is very expensive and the customer did not want to re-up for that price. They decided that they didn't need all the power that SiSense has, so they asked us for a cheaper solution.

PBI is very easy to use because of its similarity with power pivot and excel. DAX is the basic foundation language to be mastered to quickly build reports. Custom measures have been introduce to write instant DAX functions (But doesnt work all the time and need a understanding of DAX to debug). Easy to chart multiple charts and also third party charts

Reliability and Availability

There are very few situations when there is unexpected downtime. Mostly during development, new dashboard implementation and during upgrades. other then that there were very few crashes.

Performance

SiSense is usually performing better then other solutions even if going for complex reports/dashboards(of course within reasonable frames). I haven't noticed any bad influence on other systems, usually if something happens it stays within SiSense.

Support

Sisense10.0

This team is one of the few companies where I can literally Skype them for help and they respond immediately. Most don't realize how rare that actually is in the industry. Expanding their presence to the eastern time zone of the United States has made them more accessible as a result

In-Person Training

Sisense7.3
Based on 1 answer
Easy and free training that allowed us quickly understand basics in SiSense and start using them. More advanced features requires some browsing through SiSense forums, but there is always support to help, and SiSense support is one of the best whith which I worked so far.

Many examples, videos and scenarios which you try on your own right away. This combined with in-person training gives you enough to utilize most of SiSense's power.

Breadth of Deployment

We presently have 200 plus users both from outside and inside (on a smaller side) of the company. We think to use SiSense onward as our defacto/standard go to data visualization tool. All future applications would be using it too instead of creating dashboards "by hand".

Alternatives Considered

SiSense won out of all its competitors (Tableau/Logi/etc....) due to the following reasons
  • Ease of Use
  • Scalability and low cost of launch
  • Quick Implementation
  • Minimal SQL and coding required
  • Publishing dashboards very quick and efficient
  • Extremely agile environment allows us to keep up with company growth, change and focus
  • Immediate results
  • Visible ROI opportunity even during demo phase

It is easy to store and retrieve data so that when there is a turnover we are able to find information that someone entered and then use that for the upcoming prospective reports. Also the visuals we are able to generate through the programming help us quickly build reports and share out to the community.

Collaboration and Sharing

Sisense8.6
Based on 40 answers
Again, almost all of the self-service BI capabilities present in SiSense which makes it stand above many other data visualization and insight extraction suites on the market. Sharing reports can be done programmatically. Also managing the system requires very little effort. How much the end users can collaborate is basically limited by the security settings and how savvy a user is in authoring reports. I suggest a very solid data model created for the end users.

I have found limited issues whens haring data across teams, this could be because our team is relatively small so I rated it lower than a 10 because while our agency is large the team I would be sharing information with is comparative to other larger companies. The control settings are also easy to view and change.

Data Integration

Sisense8.9
Based on 40 answers
Sisense's API allows for it to connect to a large range of sources but also improves those data sources by delivering an interactive dashboard. I wasn't fully versed in the details, but after speaking with our development team I got the impression that it was easier to connect to our different data models in Sisense than any other tool we were demoing.

Every data source I can access at work (except for our internal legacy system) can be connected to Power BI. I do not have any trouble connecting to a variety of sources and integrating them together. It's also possible to connect to these various sources and gather data for dashboards in real time. Overall, I have no complaints in this area.

Return on Investment

  • I don't have specific numbers back from the customer where we deployed the product. However, I know that they used it daily to track their product shipments and machine efficiencies. I would say it did the job we deployed it to do and did it effectively.

  • It's a good start for setting up customized dashboards.
  • Available for all users based on Office 365 platform we have in place.
  • Doesn't really allow depth of report - specifically customization of visual displays.
