Sisense

I believe Sisense is perfectly suited for any organization of any size that have access to the proper resources, as the tool is very expensive. The data connectors come in all shapes and sizes out of the box, which allows a great deal of data control within the ElastiCubes. Additionally, while the platform only runs on Windows platforms, the web application can be accessed on any client: mobile, Apple, Windows, etc. This allows a much more flexible user experience, resulting in data and dashboards reaching further than any other tool.

Qlik Sense

This is a great tool if you have several disparate sources and need to do some hands-on data blending. A challenge to use if you have data both in and out of the firewall, and operate in a highly secure environment. One of the best features of the tool is that you can spoon-feed users what you want them to see/use; it is definitely not a “build it and they will come” tool, you need to spend a lot of time up front tailoring what you are building to be highly successful.

  • Customer Service
  • Visualization
  • Customizability - SQL/CSS, iFRAME/JS

  • Manual builds of the Elasticube (back end) can sometimes take a long time, for unknown reasons
  • Better mobile integration/UX
  • Can't print to PDF (yet)

The support for SiSense is almost immediate, the product is very intuitive to use, but it seems that its greatest strength is in ROI which comes in form of quickly building robust dashboards. SiSense has very efficient APIs e.g. it allows users to create remotely without the involvement of an administrator.

There are very few situations when there is unexpected downtime. Mostly during development, new dashboard implementation and during upgrades. other then that there were very few crashes.

Performance

Sisense8.2

SiSense is usually performing better then other solutions even if going for complex reports/dashboards(of course within reasonable frames). I haven't noticed any bad influence on other systems, usually if something happens it stays within SiSense.

Not only can you ask the support team for help, but you can also ask the community. Also with the community there is a vast amount of problems that have already been solved. The problem you are encountering has a likely chance of already being discussed and even solved in the community section saving you time from reaching out.

In-Person Training

Sisense7.3

Easy and free training that allowed us quickly understand basics in SiSense and start using them. More advanced features requires some browsing through SiSense forums, but there is always support to help, and SiSense support is one of the best whith which I worked so far.

Breadth of Deployment

We presently have 200 plus users both from outside and inside (on a smaller side) of the company. We think to use SiSense onward as our defacto/standard go to data visualization tool. All future applications would be using it too instead of creating dashboards "by hand".

Alternatives Considered

Sisense allows you to export individual widgets as iframes. It provides cube and row level security and can manage lots of data without interfering with the data sources. Tableau data sources were harder to manage and version. The customer support team with Sisense was head and shoulders above any other vendor. Looker restricted you to one DB instance.

Have used its still widely used (and loved) predecessor QlikView for many years before QlikSense appeared on the scene - identical coding makes porting from QlikView to QlikSense fairly easy if your application is not too complex as there are some differences that can cause issues. QlikView does rely on you getting a better handle on the coding side of things than the more intuitive drag-and-drop style of QlikSense and rivals.

Collaboration and Sharing

Sisense8.6
Based on 40 answers
Publishing changes is push button simple. Managing cube access is pretty easy if you manage users and groups as you expand. Finer grain security takes a little more work, but can be automated with tables. It's important to train your users and publish digests or updates of changes so they don't lose track.

For the Qlik Sense DESKTOP edition, sharing and collaborating is quite limited (after all it is free) - you need to manually send a file to your colleague to save in specific folder (cannot use net/cloud folder) and there are no access control capabilities. Those are available in the Enterprise version and no need to use file sharing (Enterprise version is installed on a server).

Data Integration

Connecting to data sources, and modifying/refreshing the connections is a breeze.Once the data source(s) are in the Elasticube Manager, the data sources can be from any supported platform, and be seamlessly merged.

A great range of data sources and they keep adding more.
Very easy (using the wizard) to merge data from different sources and even add calculated fields.
A very strong scripting language to do even more advanced stuff that cannot be done with the wizard.

Scalability

Return on Investment

  • Report development time is reduced from 2~3 days to 2~3 hours.
  • Report querying time is improved from 0.5~10 mins to 2~30 seconds.
  • A 2-staff team delivers 10 times the BI output that we did on the old system.
  • We were able to deliver BI and data analysis for all business functions instead of a very limited group of users
Hui (Ken) Zheng profile photo
  • Qlik Sense fills the gap between Excel's ad-hoc reporting and the traditional Qlik View scheduled type reporting. We have considered Qlik Sense Enterprise but feel that the desktop edition is good enough for our needs.
