Slido

Slido is great to use for live meetings, whether in person or via video conference; we mostly use this for Zoom meetings. You can use the different features at different times in your meeting: I love to start our All Hands meetings with a word cloud or a poll of some kind, and as people are joining via zoom it gets people feeling excited and connected even before we've started. It also gives us something fun to talk about while we're waiting for everyone to arrive and for the meeting to start. You can do a poll halfway through to keep people engaged, and then a poll at the end to see how you did, or maybe use the Q&A to see what questions come up without having the awkward zoom silence when you ask if anyone has any questions. I don't think this is helpful in smaller meetings, where people likely feel more comfortable interacting directly and asking questions verbally.

SurveyMonkey Engage

This software is very well suited for situations where a group of individuals is being asked about their work experience, meeting, professional development, training, etc.. in any way while it is desired by the admin to alter the way content is delivered for better results to educators, etc…This software would be less appropriate in a setting where questions from only a few individuals are taken, making it easier to tell which person likely answered which survey.

SurveyMonkey Engage

  • Providing employees an opportunity to self-reflect
  • Providing employees an opportunity to provide interactive feedback, ask questions, and provide details anonymously
  • Organizational transparency--we can identify where we are and how we feel

Cons

Slido

  • A chat feature is required especially when using with Webex Events so that attendees only have one app to communicate with event hosts and panelists - currently they use slido app on phones to answer polls etc but have to chat to panelists via Webex webinars / events

SurveyMonkey Engage

  • More offerings in targeting
  • Easier external reporting function
  • More question flexibility

Alternatives Considered

Slido

We choose Slido over the internal Q&A in the web conferencing we use because of its flexibility. Teams Live is a good example where you need to give moderators Producer rights to the whole event to be able see questions. This can give a wide range of people access to controls for the entire event meaning they could accidently stop/start the live stream or make un intended changes. Separating the Q&A moderation keeps the production side of the event safe. Also the ability to use word clouds and free text is handy

SurveyMonkey Engage

We were using a homegrown Google Doc that wasn't well worded and was not confidential. Although I appreciated the attempt from the former HR person to gather feedback, we needed a system that was more confidential and dedicated to gathering feedback in alignment with our corporate values. A Google Doc was not the right place for that.

  • It’s helped me to feel that I, as a teacher, am being listened to and policies, structures, procedures, etc..are being adjusted for the good of all.
  • This software helps to accumulate a wide variety of opinions across many different gender types, races, ethnicities, age groups, and backgrounds, providing a clear and consistent consensus from a group of varied individuals.
  • This software provides clarity on the overall consensus, providing an opportunity for growth as a business, which allows for better run procedures and a much better climate among all.
