LogMeIn has the edge over TeamViewer and GoToMyPC when it comes to accessing/managing multiple machines. The interface is much cleaner and, at least in my experience, connectivity through LogMeIn has proven to be quite a bit more reliable than the other solutions. The one area …

LogMeIn has U.S. servers for connectivity which is super important for us. We are constantly re-evaluating our licensing with these other products. The licenses are renewed simply because management and the technology support staff have not pushed for a detailed review and …

LogMeIn works well for small number of devices that need unattended remote access. For cost, LogMeIn in similar to GoToMyPC - works about the same - has similar features for about same cost

Used LogMeIn Pro at times, but I kinda have more inclination towards TeamViewer as it presents a lot more useful features with a good level of support comparatively.

I miss LogMeIn, we never had one issue with it in over 4 years of use. Our company switched to TeamViewer in the beginning of the pandemic, likely to save money. It is clear to me that TeamViewer is cheaper because the quality from LogMeIn to TV is a big difference. It doesn't …

Chose TeamViewer
LogMeIn was clunky the way we were using it and did not integrate into current systems such as intune and JAMF.

Highlights

Research Team Insight
Published

LogMeIn Pro and TeamViewer are both remote desktop tools. However, LogMeIn Pro is more tailored to SMB and self-service users, while TeamViewer is more focused on midsize or large companies to enterprises.

LogMeIn Pro offers remote access to less specialized users in order to remotely access their own devices with little to no IT support. In contrast, TeamViewer is applicable across a wider range of use cases.

Features

LogMeIn Pro and TeamViewer are focused on serving distinct user bases, and have unique capabilities for each audience.

LogMeIn Pro emphasizes its accessibility for end-users to access their own devices. Many of its features are tailored to this group, including robust file transfer and management, as well as LastPass integration for password management. It’s also easy to users to install and use even without extensive IT experience or prior knowledge.

TeamViewer is more applicable for organizations that can use TeamViewer across a border range of use cases, from patch management to IoT control to traditional remote support. These use cases make TeamViewer more attractive for IT administrators. It’s also more useable across different device types and operating systems.

Limitations

LogMeIn Pro and TeamViewer also have some limitations or drawbacks worth keeping in mind.

LogMeIn Pro is less scalable than TeamViewer, with a much lower cap on the number of managed devices at each pricing tier from an administrative perspective. Pricing can also be high for some use cases, particularly when larger companies attempt to scale up the tool to a broader user base. LogMeIn Pro’s performance for Mac products are also more limited and less consistent than it is for other device types according to reviewers.

TeamViewer’s broad range of use cases comes at the cost of feature depth. For instance, file support has been slower or less robust for some reviewers, and mobile accessibility is less consistent than other devices. Pricing is also a common compliant for reviewers, both in terms of general price and changes in the pricing model. Costs are especially relevant for smaller teams and companies that are more likely to have to pay for functionality that they won’t end up needing.

Pricing

LogMeIn Pro has three pricing plans. Pro for Individuals, priced at $30/month, allows access for up to 2 computers, remote access and printing, file storage, and multi-monitor displays, plus a free license to LastPass Premium. The Power Users plan, at $70/month, allows access for up to 5 computers and 3 free LastPass Premium licenses. The Small Businesses plan, at $129/month, adds access for up to 10 computers and 5 LastPass Premium licenses.

TeamViewer offers 4 pricing plans. The Single User Business License, at $49/month, allows one user to initiate one device connection session at a time, caps managed devices at 200, and enables cross-platform access. The Multi-User Premium License, at $99/month, allows for up to 50 licensed users, 300 managed devices, customized device information and user access reporting, and multiple sessions. The Corporate License for teams, at $199/month, allows for up to 200 licensed users, 500 managed devices, 3 simultaneous sessions with the paid add-on option for more, and more advanced reporting options.

LogMeIn Pro is very well suited for small-to-medium sized organisations. The pricing is affordable and the implementation is easier. There are some concerns related to data privacy and security, hence I would not advise this to be used when your session handles PHI and PII kind of data, just to be compliant.

TeamViewer
TeamViewer has been essential for the past 10 years working in support with end users who need assistance with software issues or training. The fact that the software is easy to install and easy to get the correct information to log in quickly has made this my go to for all remote help issues.

Pros
LogMeIn, Inc.
  • Ease of connection. You can use their web login and connection through there. You can also install the client app and connect via it. Easy and fast.
  • Remote Control is fantastic. It scales the screens great. There is no lag in the screen refreshes.
  • Remote printing is good. You can be working on your PC at the office via LogMeIn and print to your local PC at your current location with ease.

Cons
LogMeIn, Inc.
  • Slow customer service - we know more about their product than whoever we talk to whenever we call in
  • It does not always keep the settings during session unless we disconnect and reconnect with the new settings.
  • Troubleshooting using LogMeIn is minimal. It either works or doesn't, there is not a backup/alternative method for connectivity.

TeamViewer
  • Sometimes, it is taking a bit of time to start the session (the incoming connection to load), so that the initializing time of the session can be increased
  • There's no option to create own ID as Your ID. So, it will be user-friendly if we can generate our own TeamViewer ID in our desired way
  • When the network connection is changed (connected to a VPN while the session is active), the session gets disconnected, and sometimes have to restart the TeamViewer, so it's better if TeamViewer can identify the network connection changes automatically and automatically reconnect using the new network.

We will definitely renew our TeamViewer software license when the time comes. This service works and does not matter on what device you are trying to control (it depends on the license), and it is very responsive and does not seem to use up a lot of data.

Usability

Only giving a 9 rather than 10 due to the occasional issue after LogMeIn runs updates, and sometimes I have to walk end-user (on Macs) through "allowing" access to services - have not encountered that on PCs

TeamViewer
Compared to other products I've used (ConnectWise Control), TeamViewer is harder to set up and get connected. It is especially difficult to set up "permanent" unattended remote access, where you want to be able to connect to and control a remote computer without having to exchange codes and passwords every time you connect.

My calls and e-mails to tech support have been few and far between, but those rare interactions were always pleasant and handled professionally. Most support can be accessed electronically, but when the need arises to actually speak to a human being, LogMeIn's customer service reps are clearly well-trained and knowledgeable. Another plus: there isn't the language barrier that I've experienced with other technology companies' support centers.

the few times i have had to contact teamviewer support, they were very responsive and give me quick answers and seemed to understand my problems quickly and easily. I did not have to sit on the phone for hours on hold or get passed around to multiple phone support techs before finding a solution to my issues, so i would rate their support very highly.

As expected without any problem! Alternate in-person training is another efficient way to learn how a product works. There are many third party supporters for TeamViewer courses available that can give additional ideas how to use TeamViewer for specific functions and features as we did require in respect of our usage.

I have never used the online training either. I have watched a few informational videos that were helpful when learning how to do a specific procedure within TeamViewer and get the most out of the software by utilizing one of the many features that are available with the software. Again, 5 if for neutral.

No nothing that really sticks out. For the most part I have only had to uninstall and reinstall application a couple of times when I hit a glitch. I will say that on a MAC it is a little harder to implement due to Apple's Permissions that need to be set. Sometimes it needs the client to intervene to get those permissions set.

Alternatives Considered
LogMeIn, Inc.
ConnectWise is a much easier program to use. The end-user either types in a code or you send an email with a link to the session. A small applet is installed on their computer so you can connect. And this applet is removed when the session is over. Constant remote access capabilities are about the same since both programs allow you to install a program that runs as a service on the client system. This gives you access to that system at any time.

Horses for courses they say but all around, TeamViewer is the best software for remote management, period. Pulseway's remote desktop can work well on the phone app but on a desktop, it is often unreliable and drops connections. AnyDesk is not appropriate for our business and is only good on a case-by-case basis.
