Motive
Chose Motive
Not comparable, Verizon Connect is full of bugs and has absolutely no knowledge of the trucking business.
Chose Motive
Much better visibility and ease of use.
Chose Motive
I feel they are about the same, Motive (at the time) had better pricing.
Chose Motive
I cant say that I choose Motive(KT) by myself, and I'm not even sure that I would like to use it again, but if there is something that I would choose over all my other experiences, it would be how easy is to learn how to use it, therefore teaching other users is fast.
Chose Motive
Verizon sucks, never could edit driver logs, the location was always wrong. Once I switched to Motive all issues disappeared.
Verizon Connect
Chose Verizon Connect
Verizon is more precise with GPS, but the easy installation and quick onboarding make Motive the winner. Verizon connect has better accuracy and less chance of removal, but the interface set up take away from its ease of use. Motive is easily installed and can be transferred …

Motive
The usability of Motive's platform and mobile app, particularly for tracking drivers and managing logs, would significantly impact its suitability for trucking operations. If it offers a straightforward interface, seamless navigation, and accessible features on mobile devices, it would likely enhance its effectiveness. However, if it proved challenging or lacked necessary functionalities, it might have posed obstacles to efficient fleet management.

For overall fleet management, maintenance scheduling, employee tracking and equipment tracking this service seems like it is an all in one package that hit all the check boxes my firm needed.

The issue is lack of hardware and software updates and support, and what appears to be an over taxed cell network that is not allowing any of these devices to work correctly.

Pros
Motive
  • The customer and technical support are amazing. You can talk to a real person on the phone who is knowledgeable and responsive. There are also online chat and email options.
  • The integration with our dispatch (TMS) software is flawless with nice features.
  • The total safety options are very robust. Our insurance carrier loves what we are reporting to them.

  • Transit temperature monitoring - Verizon Connect allows us to fill in previously missing temperature information for food products in transit.
  • Vehicle location monitoring - While not our primary goal, we are able to use Verizon Connect to see if any of our vehicles has stopped for an excessive amount of time. This helps us ensure safety of our vehicle drivers.

Cons
Motive
  • I had issues with adding another company to my fleet to track them while they were driving for my company.
  • I had issues when I first started using Motive with the install. Motive assisted with a talk through method, but it still didn't work. I ended up taking the truck to the shop 3x before they figured out the problem. So, I would like to see Techs nearby to assist with technical issues.

  • Contractor install is very cumbersome, inconvenient, and causes downtime.
  • Tracking had lots of unexplained glitches, thousands of miles added and lost to various trucks out of nowhere.
  • Customer Service is quick to "open a case" on any issues, but lacks follow-up and solutions.
  • Lots of problems are "sent to development."

Usability
Motive
When signing into Motive upon entering and starting motor vehicle, the app and the transmitting unit pair immediately. Once paired it is extremely easy and efficiently started to populate the necessary unit information. Then entering the Work Order info is seamlessly entered to the E- log. Doing the pre and post vehicle checks is completed quite accurately.

Reliability and Availability
Motive
I have had no issues with applications errors, system problems, or equipment. The items I need have been available in a reasonable amount of time. The only exception is when I have needed the correct cables sent to me and I couldn't even offer to pay for overnight myself. Manual logs are just a headache especially when you ordered the units and received them in enough time.

Support Rating
Motive
Support is super easy to get a hold of via the live chat feature, which is convenient; however, the helpfulness of the person I get on the live chat very much varies but for the majority of the people I get, I am usually sent links to different self help pages on the Motive website. So, support isn't unhelpful, but it could be better. However, we have a new account rep who has really been going above and beyond to help us out in the last couple of months.

Alternatives Considered
Motive
Truck X customer support is extremely difficult to understand and they take a very long time to complete one task. Each time my husband or I called it was nothing short of 20 minutes and they would talk as though we were just too stupid to make their device work properly.

Verizon is more precise with GPS, but the easy installation and quick onboarding make Motive the winner. Verizon connect has better accuracy and less chance of removal, but the interface set up take away from its ease of use. Return on Investment
Motive
  • Level of compliance has increased significantly from paper logs
  • Saves driver time in completing daily logs
  • Reduced time admins spend on auditing logs as data is neat and consistent, and some of the more basic issues are auto flagged by the app

  • Costly compared to other GPS programs.
  • Tied to long term contracts. Representatives do not know how to cancel service.
  • Must wait until the end of the contract to request cancellation. If you miss date, you are tied to another 3 years.
