McLeod Software
On my daily tasks, it helps me to track every order and provide us with detailed information, logging times, [and] user's interactions. Not only [being] able to track but to build and receive orders thru its transmission system is good because it is integrated with a huge amount of companies world wide, reducing the effort and costs in contracting several apps to do just one thing.

For overall fleet management, maintenance scheduling, employee tracking and equipment tracking this service seems like it is an all in one package that hit all the check boxes my firm needed.

The issue is lack of hardware and software updates and support, and what appears to be an over taxed cell network that is not allowing any of these devices to work correctly.

Pros
McLeod Software
  • Dispatching management- with all its features we can be sure that McLeod will cover all the possible needs when dispatching a load.
  • Billing and documentation- its platform also provides several ways to gather all our documentation and keep them recorded.
  • GPS tracking- its implementation on GPS is beyond of our expectations. It works perfectly with the most known GPS apps such Macropoint, Keeptruckin, LoadTrack and more.

  • Transit temperature monitoring - Verizon Connect allows us to fill in previously missing temperature information for food products in transit.
  • Vehicle location monitoring - While not our primary goal, we are able to use Verizon Connect to see if any of our vehicles has stopped for an excessive amount of time. This helps us ensure safety of our vehicle drivers.

Cons
McLeod Software
  • Guides- we would love to have some updated tutorials and videos about how to use it
  • Feedback system- everyone wants to be listened to. We would appreciate a system to leave a feedback about its product and its new functionalities.
  • Fresh look- it is not ugly but McLeod is strong [and] powerful and I think a newer and fresh look will be nice.

  • Contractor install is very cumbersome, inconvenient, and causes downtime.
  • Tracking had lots of unexplained glitches, thousands of miles added and lost to various trucks out of nowhere.
  • Customer Service is quick to "open a case" on any issues, but lacks follow-up and solutions.
  • Lots of problems are "sent to development."

Verizon Connect has great customer service. Our account manager has always replied quickly to any inquiries of mine and has been very knowledgeable and reliable. Drivers who've occasionally needed to call into the customer service helpline have quickly had their questions answered and problems resolved. All reports I've received from them about their experiences have been positive, stating that the Verizon Connect employees have been courteous and helpful, resolving their issue quickly and efficiently.

Alternatives Considered
McLeod Software
McLeod has several implementations and is always looking for new ways to get up-to-date. Also, it is stable which is a nice thing when you are a big company handling thousands and thousands of loads every day. We are not only building loads but selling, tracking, dispatching, billing them, and all is being done in the same app.

Verizon is more precise with GPS, but the easy installation and quick onboarding make Motive the winner. Verizon connect has better accuracy and less chance of removal, but the interface set up take away from its ease of use. Motive is easily installed and can be transferred between vehicles that Verizon connect cannot.

Return on Investment
McLeod Software
  • Looks a bit old- we are in a new age of apps with fresh looks and responsive designs, however, this does not impact our business but we think that using a new face will help with the training curve.
  • It might delay the operation a bit because we need to access different menu items to get to one specific point.
  • A positive thing would be that with all the amount of features it has. McLeod is always trying keep the platform stable, and we know it is not easy to maintain a software like that.

  • Costly compared to other GPS programs.
  • Tied to long term contracts. Representatives do not know how to cancel service.
  • Must wait until the end of the contract to request cancellation. If you miss date, you are tied to another 3 years.
