Cisco Webex Meetings and Zoom are among the most popular web conferencing platforms currently available. Both products specialize in web conferences, but they’re also part of larger software suites that help users manage web conferencing, webinar, VoIP, and other communication software all through one system. Cisco Webex Meetings and Zoom also offer video conferencing equipment for use with their web conferencing software.

Cisco Webex Meetings is primarily used by enterprise-level organizations, likely because companies at that level are more likely to use the broader Cisco suite of business software. By contrast, Zoom’s user base is fairly evenly spread across small businesses, mid-size companies, and enterprises.

Features

Although Cisco Webex Meetings and Zoom have many similarities, they each have standout features that are important to consider when choosing a video conferencing solution.

Cisco Webex Meetings is often best suited for larger companies that host plenty of external meetings. The software is designed to be used with Cisco’s other Webex communications tools, making it a solid choice for companies that want to consolidate web conferencing, webinar, and cloud-based telephony tools. Recently, Cisco has updated Webex Meetings with features designed to enhance its video conferencing capabilities. The software now includes features such as virtual camera backgrounds, a redesigned audio/video preview window, and educator-focused features like attendance management tools.

Zoom is often a good solution for business of all sizes. Designed to scale with your business’s needs, Zoom can help integrate online meetings, webinars, and conference calls into a single platform. Reviewers particularly appreciate Zoom’s high audio/video quality, breakout and sidebar room features, and overall ease of setup and use. Zoom’s recent updates have added new chat features with public channels, private channels, and direct messages. The software also now includes a calendar pane, allowing users to schedule meetings from Zoom and import calendar items from Google or Office 365 calendar apps.

Limitations

Although both Cisco Webex Meetings and Zoom are popular choices for video conferencing, they also have certain limitations to consider when choosing a solution.

Webex Meetings is commonly praised for its ability to host meetings from multiple types of devices. However, the software can also have a steep learning curve. Some of its advanced features, such as interface customization, can be difficult to learn and configure. Some reviewers also experienced frustrating intermittent lag issues, even if their overall internet connection was solid.

Zoom, on the other hand, is often praised for having a shallow learning curve, but some users find its UI sparse and clunky at times. Its “leave meeting” button is a particular pain point for reviewers, due to its screen placement and tendency to disappear at odd times. Some users also find that basic tasks in the UI take far too many clicks, with important or commonly-used features buried too far in menus or configuration panels. While Zoom does have clients for many platforms, some operating systems or implementations (such as Chromebook) might lack polish or feature parity.

Pricing

Webex Meetings uses a tiered, monthly per-host pricing plan. The Free tier includes all basic functionality and allows up to 100 participants in meetings of up to 50 minutes. The Starter tier is $14.95 per host per month with a maximum of 9 hosts. It extends the maximum meeting length to 24 hours, and adds 5 GB of cloud storage. The Plus tier is $19.95 per host per month for up to 50 hosts and has similar features to the Starter tier. The Business tier is $29.95 per host per month for up to 100 hosts. It allows up to 200 participants per meeting and increases cloud recording storage to 10 GB. The Enterprise tier is priced via quote and includes unlimited recording storage and up to 100,000 meeting participants.

Zoom’s Basic pricing tier is free and allows unlimited one-on-one meetings and 40-minute group meetings with up to 100 participants. The Pro pricing tier costs $15.00 per license per month and allows meetings as long as 24 hours. The Business tier costs $20.00 per license per month and includes custom branding and SSO options, with group meetings of up to 300 participants. The Zoom United Business tier costs $30.00 per license per month and requires at least 10 licenses. This plan includes unlimited cloud storage and phone features. Finally, the Enterprise plan is $19.99 per license per month with a 100-license minimum and allows up to 1,000 participants per meeting with transcription features.

Which is Right for You?

Zoom and Webex Meetings have fairly comparable pricing, however, if you’re on a budget, Webex Meetings will cost significantly less per month, but you trade 50 fewer participants for the cheaper price.

And while Webex Meetings is more commonly used amongst mid-sized companies and enterprises, Zoom is more popular with small businesses. When comparing these two powerhouses, consider your budget as well as the average size of online meetings you wish to host regularly.

Webex Meetings is more suitable for 1V1 virtual meetings. The tool helps us to engage with the candidate and able to understand their emotions and expressions in real time. Though it is a virtual meeting tool but If we use it effectively it is a high ROI tool for all. We use Webex Meetings in our company for HR interviews, Sales meetings, And for webinars we will not be using it.

I think Zoom runs circles around Teams! I just wish starting meetings was easier - anyone with a link should be able to start the meeting the way you can in Teams. It would also be great to be able to see participants when you are sharing your screen.

Pros
Cisco
  • We have a global and diverse team with different devices and operating systems. Webex works smoothly on all of them and everyone can collaborate in real-time saving a lot of time and effort, making meetings much more productive.
  • We can easily capture discussion points and decisions for future reference, without the need for manual note-taking. It helps us in smaller group discussions and brainstorming sessions within the main meeting itself.
  • I can even tailor the layout to suit the meeting's purpose and agenda. Webex is intuitive and easy to navigate, even for non-technical users, joining and scheduling meetings is a smooth process.

  • I love how easy it is to set the focus on the presenter. It is annoying when people don't spotlight themselves as a presenter, so you get to see the whole gallery of attendees in smaller, two-inch windows.
  • I like the capability of having break-out rooms. Even though I don't use them very often, it is nice to have them available if the right situation presents itself for smaller group chats.
  • The recording quality is better than I have experienced with other products (Microsoft Teams, WebEx, etc.), and the fact that it is already an MP4, so I don't have to convert it for publishing on our intranet is huge to me.

Cons
Cisco
  • While sharing the content of browsers like Chrome or Firefox it becomes difficult to toggle from one tab to another due to menu dropdown from the top.
  • Sometimes while joining a meeting it asks you to download the app again even if it's downloaded.
  • Limited scheduling option through mobile WebEx app

  • Sharing zoom complete information is not visible on the screen, and also a bit is confusing minimizing and maximizing.
  • Every time someone enters the chat, a chat box appears on my screen, and some features are missing from this version.

Cisco
Webex Meetings does not provide enough audio feedback for users with visual disabilities to properly navigate the tool. Students, faculty, and staff who are blind or have low vision may not be able to use Webex Meetings. Users with motor disabilities that navigate via keyboard, may not be able to navigate the web conferencing session enough to participate fully.

Reliability and Availability
Cisco
So personally I have never faced any kind of meeting unavailability issue while scandaling meeting with WebEx the bandwidth is really good and in terms of application performance the same is my opinion what I mentioned for availability it is good and the objective of communication is quite fruitfully achieved with a simple and effective product like WebEx which is often bundled with the purchase of course which is which we have at our company and great discount is being offered so it is easy on our pocket. I really don't have any specific errors which have faced I should mention over here the operation or application uses is quite smooth.

Zoom has among the best performance of any video conference platform, as I've mentioned several times. Besides that, their Chat platform works great, and their back end always runs smooth. It's unfortunate that reporting can now only be done by one month at a time, but nonetheless, it only takes a second to run any kind of Zoom report, whether it's an attendee report, Poll results, a user report, a list of meetings from the past month, etc.

As I've written before, Zoom makes us feel like we matter and that we're a client rather than a customer. They want us to succeed and they put in the time to make sure that we do. I feel like they're more of a business partner rather than simply a vendor or supplier. They spent a lot of time onboarding with us, giving us demos, helping us get set up, and then giving us follow-up to be sure it's going well.

In-Person Training
Cisco
It was straight to the point and very informative. effective training often includes clear explanations, hands-on practice opportunities, time for questions and answers, real-world examples, and follow-up support. If you're trying to assess the quality of a specific training session, you might consider these factors. For organizations looking to assess the quality of their in-person training, it's best to solicit feedback directly from the participants. This can be done through anonymous surveys or feedback sessions, enabling the organization to gather firsthand information and improve future training sessions accordingly.

That we needed complex implementation that we didn't get tells me 2 things: 1) the product was not designed in a way that "just worked" like some of its peers (Zoom / BlueJeans) and 2) had our company defined actual user needs and validated / verified that they had bought something that matched those, we would have pursued features / designs more closely aligned with what the product actually does: screen share, sometimes video, definitely VOIP audio (always an option regardless of license), and easy recording and retrieval of meetings.

The Deskpro system can be integrated very well into the Webex solution and can also be used by employees from their workplace. The integration is simple and can be easily implemented. Zoom cannot be beaten for ubiquity - 100% of my clients and prospective clients are already familiar with Zoom. This is the #1 reason why I use Zoom. Additionally, Zoom integrates with AcuityScheduling, saving me a lot of time in creating meetings and adding them to the calendar. Zoom is disappointing in terms of video quality, interactivity features, and privacy. In cases where I need to use the recording of webinars for digital products, I will always use Crowdcast, and in cases where privacy is essential, I will use JitsiMeet.

Scalability

  • Limited engagement and interactive features with students often contributed to complaints around student engagement and buy-in.

Zoom
  • It enables me to send and receive messages from my team members during video calls, handling online presentations.
  • With the ability to quickly stop, mute, and even receive notifications when someone enters or exits the meeting room, I'm never obligated to show up while making a call.
  • It is possible to record online meetings for future reference and more effective customer service. As we dealt with a lockdown, Zoom helped our business run smoothly.
