Whereby

[Whereby] is great for small teams within an organization. It is simple to use and quick to join. It can't be your main communication tool as it lacks most of the core features. Screen sharing quality is great. It can't handle large meetings. If video quality is utmost priority then this tool isn't for you.

Zoom Video Webinar

If you are a small business or just started with virtual meetings, Zoom [Video Webinar] is best for you. It does the job very well for which it is made for. For teaching, webinars, workshop purposes, Zoom [Video Webinar] can be used easily. It has 100 participants limit for basic users which can be used by trial user user in order to have a idea about its working. Zoom [Video Webinar] can be very well used for bigger webinars/ seminars or bigger gatherings also by considering Business/ Professional plans. The subscription charges are quite low as compared to other software's. Zoom [Video Webinar] has limitation of not providing room or space for other features like class material, Meetings notes, Quizzes etc. Zoom [Video Webinar] can improve its performance also while presenting and it needs to work more on security reasons also.

Pros

Whereby

  • Whereby does not require any download file?
  • We can easily join meeting with only two clicks.
  • [The] link is short and easy to share. Unlike other software where [the] link is 30+ words.
  • The emoji collection and response on the screen [are] very ideal.

Zoom Video Webinar

  • Zoom handles multiparticipant meetings very well through a centralized screen that allows you to see all participants, conduct group or individual chat sessions during the meeting and allows anyone to share documents in the meeting.
  • The chat feature in Zoom is very helpful during a meeting for discreetly reaching out to another colleague in the meeting when you want to share verify or validate something before announcing publicly in the meeting. It's great to have sideline conversations that are relevant to myself and another colleague in the meeting without disturbing the meeting.
  • The video features of Zoom are great! Since many of my meetings are conducted virtually, it's nice to see and talk with someone via Zoom's video feature to make our conversations more personal and meaningful

Cons

Whereby

  • The paid version may have dial-in. But I have always used the free version. Dial-in is typically required for an "official" multi-purpose teleconference platform.
  • I did have some trouble with larger groups (5+) when it was Appear.in but almost always use it for small 1-on-1 or 3 person meetings.

Zoom Video Webinar

  • It can get expensive with a large team.
  • Some features in Zoom Meeting aren't in the Zoom Webinar (and vice versa).
  • The analytical data you can get on your viewers isn't as good as GoToWebinar. The tradeoff is still that Zoom Webinar is a frictionless experience.

We are using a larger tool suite that already includes video conferencing instead of our older approach of using different apps from different vendors.appear.in has a simple but great set of features but its pricing scheme is not as scalable as we really need in a 500+ employee company.

We will be renewing with Zoom as long as it continues to meet our needs for client and lead outreach needs in a robust manner. With little error and an easy to use interface, Zoom has met our needs and exceeded our expectations. The cost is right and with a short learning curve, Zoom has been an easy decision to make and maintain.

I really enjoy all of the great and easy-to-use features Zoom has to offer, such as recording, screen sharing, breakout groups, and more! It's such an easy interface to use for educational purposes, making virtual learning the best it can be.
The purpose for a high rating is, it has really made life easy and made work from home possible in many ways.

Never had to contact support, so we cannot give a rating for their overall support. When we noticed the audio was not always great quality, we simply educated our users to mute the mic and use the in-room conference phone which is connected via a dedicated VOIP link and had much better voice quality. The video performance varied by locations network speed and found it got much worse when the room size increased to over 4 connections.

I did not evaluate other applications against Whereby, because we had a very specific need, which was the partner that we would use the solution, only accepted to use Whereby, so, we accepted to use the solution. As it was for a specific period, there was no problem. And in the end, it proved to be a very stable, very fast solution, with no need for crazy plugins or anything. Basically, it was access[ed] and use.

I could probably list another 1/2 dozen vendors beside the ones noted above. They all have various pros and cons.I'll start with the lesser products Google Hangouts and Skype - while they are generally cheap or free their features are minimal and really not appropriate for anything more the small conversations.Blackboard Collaborate has some had some up and downs, they have tried to re-release it a few times with drastic UI changes but it's not something Blackboard has even really nailed + plus obviously, it's tied to an organization using Blackboard as their primary LMS with may not work for you. While there may be a stand-alone purchasing option It's typically tied into buying a package of products from Blackboard. Adobe Connect was OK, I used it for years but it's not up to par with the quality I expect from Adobe. The updates they've made to it over the years are quite minimal and its flash-based tech is a growing issue. Also, the creation of meeting rooms and telephone/conference line integrations are extremely tedious. If you do go with this product at least get the hosting through Adobe, hosting locally seems to add a high level of slow down to the system and their support of self-hosted users has been subpar.Lasty, GoToMeeting is probably one of the few products on here I would flat out call AWFUL. I wouldn't use it even if they paid me. Avoid.

Return on Investment

Whereby

  • In general, any sort of online collaborations saves a lot on your budget. The meetings are rather more on time and can be efficient and short.
  • Easy to drop-by and have a small talk with clients/teammates within COVID era.
  • The URL makes you look fancy instead of a random hash.

Zoom Video Webinar

  • Zoom has increased the productivity of our research team thanks to its intuitive interface and excellent audio and video quality. We can have discussions without the interruption of buffering or the annoyance of a video/audio lag.
  • We have increased the number of research publications and the volume of research we produce, as we can easily meet with remote collaborators.
  • Zoom helps our research team save money by avoiding travel costs associated with in-person meetings.
