Very well suited for small and medium-sized business with a small or no IT staff. Moreover, regulated industries such as HIPAA Covered Entities are a good candidate for Cisco Meraki MX's, since you can purchase the Advanced Security License and have full IPS coverage for all internet traffic in a...

We have two FortiGate 1500D firewalls, one at each datacenter. They are configured as active-passive. All traffic coming and going passes through them for the entire organization. This ensures that all packets to and from users are managed and controlled.

It is well suited to companies that don't have a large network department and security office. Large enterprises may have too many layers of personnel to make the transition as seamless as it could be.

Fortigate works pretty well if you choose the correct device based on the number of your users. If you need to apply policies by application this solution can help you. Their other features like web filter, VPN connections, traffic reports, etc work well too. In general terms, the solution is ver...

We use MX Meraki for our retail branch banking. We use them as easy to manage air droppable systems. With branches spread out, it's important to reduce the cost for administration and remote admin is Meraki's strength.

Every business needs a firewall. Businesses with more than one location need a way to connect those locations securely. Instead of buying expensive site to site data connections, you can buy lower-cost internet connections and use the Meraki MX Firewalls to connect your locations through their Si...

pfSense is perfectly suited for small businesses as a firewall/router. Their hardware product line can scale with business size while the downloadable ISO can be installed directly on low-power devices. Many small businesses would be on DHCP for their internet connection so the built-in Dynamic D...

Palo Alto ranks as one of the best nex-gen firewalls. Their OS, real-time analytics and their wildfire product is pretty top-notch. They are even branching out in the AV side, just don't have the GUIs integrated well, so it more sites to go to. Instead, one global GUI would be nice.

It is good for performing VPN tunnels and content filtering; on the other hand, I do not recommend it for establishing several subnets in a company.

WatchGuard is one of the many firewall options utilized for my clients. They are terrific business-grade firewalls that protect networks against attacks and allow extremely customizable rules and filters to regulate traffic and end users. They are easy to configure and maintain and have all of th...

We use Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls as our primary firewall and our VPN solution for the company. It is very easy to set up and the firewall itself proves to be very effective in managing traffic. They are an industry leader for Enterprise NGFW appliances with numerous security fe...

The PA is used for the entire company. It has been used as a stand-alone for the one building as well as site to site VPN with a second building and mandatory VPN access for remote employees.

Implementing an ASA is not advisable for a small business with a tight budget for IT. To get the juice you must be willing to invest in licenses and maintain the support contract to continue receiving updates. In the medium term you will be satisfied, but in the meantime I am sure that the financ...

We are using Fortigate Firewalls at all of our properties, from large campus installs to small branch office locations. We use Fortigate units to route traffic and as a Next Generation Firewall, to allow policy based security at all of our locations. The Fortigate units allow us to secure our net...

The cost was comparable to the SonicWall we were looking at but feature wise, they are in a different league. The FortiGate offered far more Next Generation Firewall features and they were bundled in with the license we chose. The interface is much easier to use and we spend less time bouncing be...

We use Meraki MX as a security appliance/firewall. With an advanced security license, the content filtering, IDS, and geographical blocking features are surprisingly good compared to using alternative solutions with no noticeable performance hit as long as you size the unit properly.

Works great as a VPN solution and a firewall. Does not work well in a virtual environment. PfSense needs to be a dedicated physical box.
