IBM POWER8 Servers work as the backbone, and sometimes the entire stack of services, for our customers. From the mighty IBM i to the hip Linux, you can run a multitude of Operating Systems. Its reliability and resilience make it the go-to platform for customers that want a solid hardware platform.
  • Each CPU core is more powerful than x86, which lowers licensing costs.
  • RAS features of the platform surpass any commodity server, even in the lowest models.
  • The HMC allows easy management of LPARs, and even migration between machines.
  • The noise levels for the scale-out machines are too much for small offices.
Do you run Windows loads? Are those loads exclusive to Windows? If yes, that's the only case where you cannot take advantage of POWER8 Systems.
For all the other cases, workloads run better on POWER8. It doesn't matter if they are OLTP or web servers, in AIX, IBM i or Linux (Big Endian OR Little Endian), POWER8 Systems can run it. For HPC or AI cases where you need powerful GPU-CPU communication, POWER8 Machines have you covered as well, boasting better training times for AI models.

IBM Power8 servers are well suited for applications that incur heavy processing and transactions. They are very well suited to run Oracle RAC clusters. We have multiple Oracle clusters running on Power 8 and they run very efficiently with minimal issues. We've been very pleased with the performance as have the users of the applications.
