This is the first time I've worked in the non-profit world. Accounting is somewhat different so I am very glad to be using a product designed specifically for non-profits. Many accounting processes are similar of course, but it is nice to have them tailored to fit the requirements of a non-profit organization.

I have used both Fundware and QuickBooks. Abila was the clear choice for the needs of this non-profit: multiple funds; many cost/budget centers; a variety of grants, etc. Exporting to and converting to Microsoft Excel was the standard way of doing things when I got here. Budget amounts can now be compared to actual expenses on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual basis.

I don't recall the exact name of the product, but it was basic Blackboard accounting and it was pre-online stuff. And it was hideous. Worst account product I ever used and it was exorbitantly expensive. I had used ACCPAC years before that in the FOR-profit world and that had been great. Moving to a NON-profit organization, they had Blackboard which was terrible. We soon switched to MIP and have been with MIP ever since.

We have not researched or entertained other products during my tenure here at the organization. We have been pleased with what the product provides but would expect to reevaluate systems in the next five years to ensure MIP continues to be the best option for our rapidly changing organization and industry.

TCO, reporting, flexibility and support are at the level you require in a large non-profit arena.

We had Great Plains prior to this and needed the flexibility that MIP offers with a segment coding structure. I have used MIP over many years (20+) beginning with ACCPAC and like the overall setup of the software.

I used Great Plains at a former job. It was also designed for non-profits. The payroll function/feature was much easier to maneuver than MIP Fund Accounting. The AP feature was comparable to that of MIP Fund Accounting and functioned somewhat the same. Which is nice. I do not know about the reports feature, as my reports processing was limited due to the job I had. Same with the budgeting features and A/R. We are a non-profit organization that wished to utilize a system designed specifically for this type of organization.
