- This is a really easy-to-use marketing automation platform that is constantly evolving. We can see a lot of drag and drop functionality that our customers find helpful!
- The endless segmentation possibilities. Act-On is built up around lists and segment (basically different stages of a lead) and the leads move on to the next segment on their own pace and based on their buying journey.
- I also want to highlight the beneficial CRM integrations, which entails the funnel-report, multitouch attribution report and a kick ass syncing experience.
Cons
- If you don't have a CRM that Act-On already has a built integration for - you will not be able to measure the ROI or any report with CRM data. You really will miss out on some valuable information, BUT they have a FTP-sync which at least entitles you to sync leads and their information.
- The landing page-builder could need some improvements (have heard that something around this is coming soon..).
Great software that continually makes improvements based on user input
- The most notable thing about Act-On is how they listen to their users. Customer support is very helpful and responsive, and they genuinely do their best to supply a solution to problems, or a work-around if they need to do more extensive research or problem-solving. I have also suggested changes to the structuring of the email code to increase message deliverability, and they responded by changing the message structure, demonstrating that they take user input into consideration when making improvements to their software.
- The message composer is good and easy to use. They are coming out with a new composer soon, which will hopefully make it even easier and turn-key; however, the current composer is still good, as it allows full access to the code which gives total design control to the user. There are also ways to compose messages that do not involve editing the code at all, making it a good composer for users of all skill levels.
Cons
- The form builder in Act-On is helpful in identifying leads and customers, but the builder itself is somewhat difficult to use. There is not very much CSS customization available - it would be helpful if you could create a personalized stylesheet to use on all/most forms moving forward so you don't have to update the CSS on every single form. I usually end up downloading the code and applying my own stylesheet outside of Act-On. There are also some smaller things I would suggest concerning the response to the user after they submit a form, such as being able to stay on the same page when confirming their submission, and making confirmation emails easier to create. I know Act-On is working on updating their form creator based on user suggestions, so I'm hopeful it will contain some of these improvements.
- Although Act-On has functionality to create landing pages, I have not used them because they would not be trackable in Google Analytics with the rest of our company's webpages, making it more difficult to create reports. Also, when exploring the landing page creator, I found that I did not have as much flexibility in creating the page as I needed, from a design and layout perspective. It is much easier to create landing pages on our own company site.

- The platform has straightforward A/B testing for landing pages, and it produces accessible and informative marketing statistics.
- Act-On’s website tracking beacon and its Website Prospector displays visitors to our website in a complimentary way to Google Analytics.
Cons
- Act-On’s landing page and forms builders take time to get up and running with, and with several months of experience, and their new revision of the landing page builder it still needs improvements. You might spend a lot of time if you choose to use their page builder, although to be fair the landing pages work well once completed.
Easy to use B2B Marketing tool
- Act-On support response is quick on questions and provides solutions to make Act-On a success.
- Easy to use tools for customizing forms and landing pages to our needs.
- Easy to use A/B testing.
Cons
- The new landing page builder is easy to use, but there are still some functions that need more developing to make it a really good page builder.
- Better e-mail opt-in integration. For example: pop-ups for website visitors for subscribing to the newsletter.
- Website data is limited in comparison to Google Analytics. I still use Google Analytics next to Act-On.
Act-On: A great e-marketing solution
- Easy Interface - the WYSIWYG interface makes it extremely easy to build out marketing campaigns in a short amount of time. Just place your text and images and you've got a beautiful cohesive design.
- Wonderful customer support - I have had very few problems with Act-On, but those I did have were resolved very fast by my customer care rep. They are very hands on with their customers and do whatever they can to help you succeed.
- Integration - smooth integration with our Salesforce account allow us to build out elaborate campaigns with specific lead lists, and then add qualifying data back to customer accounts.
Cons
- We send several weekly emails out to the same customer lists and it would be convenient if when we duplicated the message it would duplicate the list selection as well.
