- It's easy to set up a drip campaign or a series of scheduled emails.
- It has the flexibility of having a variety of scheduling options and the use of user experience automation.
- A more straightforward UI and faster loading times are needed.
- User direct communication within the platform would be fantastic.
- There are a few areas where the functionality could be improved.
- Act-On is very useful for creating, managing, and sending effective marketing campaigns.
- The use of landing pages has attracted many potential customers.
- The reporting function is integrated and is easy to access and understand.
- The landing page allows you to customize the page for any activity or reason you need.
- Its reporting helps to understand audience engagement.
- This is a program that meets all requirements, our performance has no problems, and all results are positive.
Act-On review
- Representatives are responsive to customer needs.
- Act-On continuously works on improving their system - using customer feedback to help them know where to focus.
- Technicians are friendly and responsive.
- I would like to see a way to schedule a single email to multiple groups at different dates & times by accessing the email just once, instead of programming a new email every time.
- I would like to see easier features with mapping hyperlinks - where you could use your mouse to draw out areas to link to a url.
Very flexible Automation tool - great customer support.
- Email and Landing Pages, great feature set. Flexible for different skill level users. Easy integration to CRM.
- Robust list and contact management allowing complete communication cycle to take place in one place.
- Solid lead scoring platform and follow up tools.
- Social Media tool needs development.
Easy Automation at a Great Price!
- Act-On excels with its Salesforce integration. We haven't had any issues and it's always in sync.
- Easy automation. It's really easy to set up workflows and the smart logic just makes sense.
- One of my favorite features is the ability to change links and images after an email has been sent. For example, if you have the wrong link after the email has been sent it's easy to go into Act-On, change the link, and Act-On will automatically create a redirect.
- The database is a mess. Currently, there is no way to search the database for an individuals profile. You have to go into the list you think the individual resides in and do a search. This causes a lot of wasted time if you are using multiple lists.
- RSS feed is lacking. Certain design limitations make the RSS to email feature pointless. It looks like it was designed in the early 2000s.
- My biggest complaint is that the software is buggy. Sometimes the email won't be sent out in time.
We like ACT but it is for smaller companies
- Sort by select fields
- Edit templates to view clients info
- Ease to see other users notes
- Slow
- Outdated
- Hard to sort with multiple topics
All in one marketing automation tool.
- Powerful SEM and email marketing tools are its biggest advantage. Automated program templates are easy to use.
- The consumer analytics feature is really good and the dashboard is super cool and intuitive. Drag and drop blocks are super easy which also allows you to add images and edit texts.
- Open API feature adds a lot of value to Act-on.
- Adaptive scoring is intelligent enough in scoring the leads.
- They can work on the pricing, a bit expensive compared to other tools.
- Small learning curve, which will be fine over a period of time.
Act-On tries its best, you get your money's worth, but it's not truly the best out there.
- I liked their functionality for creating landing pages and forms. They looked nice, had plenty of options, and were easy to embed in websites.
- Creating email campaigns was easy and effective through Act-On. With A/B testing, automated campaigns, and sleek design, it felt very professional.
- It connected well with Salesforce, provided we had matching contact criteria. It was fast and easy to sync up.
- The automation function within webinars was always efficient and convenient. They synced with GoToWebinar as well as Salesforce to make for a smooth invitation / follow-up / attendee tracking process every time.
- The designer tools, especially for emails, were often difficult to use. The formatting of the text would be all over the place and change / refuse to change at random. Moving boxes around was shifty and sometimes nearly impossible. It just wasn't customizeable enough. No "undo" functionality either.
- The only way to collect information expansively over time (there's a term Act-On uses for it, I can't recall) where it adds questions to the form each time a user fills it out, is if the person were to fill out the same form multiple times. I know this does happen for some websites/resources, but as a company that wanted to collect new information each time someone filled out any form, regardless of the resource or the URL, that was simply not an option, and that doesn't really make a lot of sense. I know it's not really possible to track someone but if they filled out the first part of the form and then it added new questions to answer, and then they submitted and got through the gating, that would actually be helpful.
- There was no "trash can" of sorts in case you deleted something by mistake. This could be so stress-inducing if it was a major project. My coworker did this once, contacted Act-On, they couldn't even recover it.
- Easy to use. The UX is simple and you can easily navigate the program.
- Marketing automation.
- Customer service/help has been amazing with all of our questions.
- Our server went out several times when we were in the renewal period.
- Lead scoring constantly broke.
- It's not as robust as other competitors.
- Good integration with Webex for webinars. We're able to schedule webinar events, schedule invitation emails + reminder emails, and launch and conduct webinars all through the program. It's very easy to set up, manage, and use.
- Users can set up solid email marketing campaigns with workflows, identify hot/warm leads, and push to Salesforce with the integration.
- Customer support is responsive and easy to work with, and their Act-On Academy is a comprehensive resource for learning about the platform.
- The automated email programs could be more intuitive to set up and manage.
- I find their landing page templates lackluster. We've opted not to use them because we couldn't get them to look the way we wanted them to.
- We had some trouble with list cleanliness and getting stuck in spam folders, with our opens decreasing and bounce rates increasing. Even after hiring Act-On to consult and help us clean up our lists, the same problems persisted.
- Act-On gives us flexibility to create high quality emails because we have the ability to import images and create links to websites or PDFs to increase agent engagement.
- Act-On has a great survey tool that allows me to create survey so that I can quickly gather information from our customer base for our business needs. The data is delivered in spreadsheet format so it can be easily analyzed.
- Act-On gives me the ability to create landing pages, which I can link our agents to more information with by an email. We have the same flexibility to create high-end landing pages.
- Act-On has great engagement reporting of our email sends. I look forward to reviewing the reports with my internal customers to show how the emails have performed from an open and click standpoint.
- I think Act-On could have a better folder system for marketing lists.
- I think Act-On could offer a faster way to clean up lists and images. Right now you have to remove one at a time.
- Act-On could make it easier to pull in personalized data to an email from an extension list. It is a two-step process right now.
Act-On is Time Efficiency
- Act-On's customer service is exceptional, they are quick and thorough when you are needing help. For example, we could not figure out how to automate a birthday date for our birthday campaign and the representative was able to walk through the process with myself and another team member. This is a strength of Act-On because many other companies do not have customer services that will speak with you, they direct you to blogs or informational sessions.
- The landing pages that Act-On has created for use on the web is exceptional. The formatting is very user-friendly and the templates are great to navigate. The landing pages allow you to make the page fit whatever campaign or reason you are in need of. This is a strength of Act-On because the landing pages resolve the issue of having to create actual web pages.
- The spam feature of Act-On's emails is a great add on. This feature allows you to test how the spam alerts are triggered in your email and how you can fix it. This has helped many emails be developed in a way so that they reach many more people than they would have without this feature. many other programs do not have this feature.
- They can greatly improve how you are able to place photos in emails. The current way is very archaic and takes a long time to navigate to find your photo. Once your photo is in the email, you cannot crop or adjust the size. This should be upgraded.
- The A/B testing or dynamic emails needs to be worked on. You can not currently test emails before placing them in a series to go to contacts, the testing route is long and usually ends up in frustration. There needs to be a way to test dynamic emails so that you can ensure success before sending.
Act-On, perfect for any size business!
- Very intuitive, easy to use. You don't need a strong coding background to be able to set emails up.
- The ability to set-up long or short forms and add them to a landing page.
- Extremely helpful and timely support staff available 24/7.
- You can't mass delete images.
- Their reporting as a whole is lacking.
- You can't edit the code/font behind the calendar widget.
That said, we use for all of the above. Mileage varies from client to client, but we certainly use every part of Act-On. We will build our client landing pages in Act-On, we house our email templates in Act-On, we upload marketing content to Act-On -- I'm in it all the time! In fact, I have it open in one of my browser tabs as I am writing this review.
Overall, it is a solid marketing automation platform. Act-On manages lists, segments, email programs, and sync's with SalesForce very well, but in some areas like landing page design and reporting it falls short.
- List Management. Act-On has some powerful segmentation tools that complement the automated programs very well. Act-On lets you really slice and dice your lists however you see fit. Connected to Salesforce, Act-On becomes super-charged.
- Automated Programs. You can then take your targeted segments and create robust automated programs that can be tailored into specific tracks for your targeted audience.
- Webinar Programs. If you use GotoWebinar or WebEx, managing the webinar is a breeze. Act-On will handle the invitations, registrations, reminders and post-event follow-up for you. It works really well.
- Landing Page Design. The drag and drop builder is OK. But it feels very limited for someone who has a good knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc. Inevitably, there will be something that you simply can't do in Act-On that you could do in a standard web design environment.
- No Server Side Scripts. There isn't any way to retrieve data in your lists and add it to a landing page. Basically, you can't use any data stored in an Act-On list and add it to a landing page.
- It's limited. There is simply some data you can't pull from Act-On and into a 3rd Party Reporting app.
Act-On would be overkill for the small B2C client. A small business that uses email to manage newsletters and product announcements will find Act-On to be much, much more than they need. Act-On can certainly do these things but so can MailChimp at a much lower price point. There would be many features in Act-On that this client simply would never use.
If your company uses a custom CRM, Act-On won't be the best fit. I imagine you would need to hire a developer (or commit an in-house developer) to a large project of integrating your CRM with Act-On. Otherwise, you'll be importing and exporting list data on a regular basis.
Marketing Automation For Advanced Users and Needs
- Manage multiple clients and segment the client accounts
- Activate multi-step automated email campaigns
- Track recipient engagement such as opens, clicks, and website visits
- Set-up requirements and steps are complicated
- Customer service could have been better
Act-On has endless features and one of the easiest interfaces!
- My favorite Act-On feature is the web prospector. It allows you to gate your marketing content so that anyone viewing the content on your website provides information about their location, contact info, title, etc. It really helps us to generate leads for the sales team and has helped us get in contact with prospects who are highly interested in our products.
- The feature that we use the most is the outbound content section for creating emails. The templates and different sections you can add to emails enables us to create very organized, versatile emails while sticking to our own branding and color guidelines.
- After an email is sent in Act-On, the platform begins counting which links in an email were clicked the most. This really helped us to test how engaging certain emails were over others. It also helped us understand how to present certain content in a more engaging way. Something as simple as changing the color of a button can make our subscribers click on it, and we wouldn't have that insight without Act-On.
- The most obvious con when using Act-On is that it’s not very intuitive. The menu options don’t always seem to correlate with what’s on that page so, I get lost on the platform often - even after using it for a year.
- I wish there was an easier way to organize content added to Act-On by other users within my organization. I often have to sort through emails and drafts that were created by other people on my team to be able to find my own drafts.
Act-On: Marketing Automation software
- Act-On is very strong in behavior based messaging, drip and nurture campaigns.
- Easy to use email design through WYSIWYG designer.
- Act-On handles volume of data quite well
- Act-On's system navigation and overall UI could be improved as this is not intuitive at all. Often times, even after having used the system for some time it can be hard to find certain features or abilities of the platform. This turns out to be time intensive and could be better.
- Act-On is not at all set up to handle multiple teams working in 1 instance of the platform. Initially during the roll out of our platform we didn't know about this and we have 6 different teams working in the same instance which causes a lot of data management issues since the system's search capabilities are limited.
- Act-On's out-of-the-box connections to CRM system's is not ideal and could better. Our organization is using MS Dynamics 365 and there have been some issues in the set up, maintenance and continuous use of the Act-On connector
- Because of the way Act-On seems to be designed for a centralized structure rather than decentralized marketing teams, the reporting through their data studio creates a big gap. Act-On reports well per initiative, however aggregating data can only be through a 3rd party BI tool s.a. Tableau, MS Power BI, Qlik, etc.
Act-On - Understand Your Customers
- Quick view of who clicked
- What they clicked on
- How many pages the user visited on our site
- Also like the Act-On Score - where you assign a value to various activities to track "value of a contact"
- The pages/reports tend to load slow
- When viewing a click report online -it would be very helpful to have another column of information that shows company name - rather than having to click on the user -- email right on that page would be helpful as well
Act-On: Class Act in Customer Service and Support
- Customer Support. This team goes above and beyond normal customer support. The support team is very friendly, always answers my questions immediately, and sends follow up emails. Their support team is so great that we've connected them with our customer support team to learn a thing or two!
- We have a very niche targeted audience that has a lot of weird email addresses (think info@address.com). Act-On's flexible suppress/bounce lists (spam) is truly impactful for our business. With other software, our account would probably have been suspended a few times due to sending to these email addresses. It's truly invaluable for our business.
- I truly feel that like a business partner of Act-On's. They regularly ask for feedback and we're happy to be beta testers for a lot of new features. Also, it's rewarding to not feel like "a customer" and instead feel like we're in business to grow together.
- I don't have a lot of coding experience, both in HTML and/or CSS. Since I am in a content marketing department of one (startups!!), creating branded forms/landing pages/etc. can take a while.
- The interface isn't as beautiful as some of the other softwares. Not a big problem for us, but I suppose some other companies could be turned off by that.
It's like they know us.
UPDATE: After a year of using ActOn, we've discovered some hurdles that are difficult to overcome. ActOn can only build lists off two objects in Salesforce--Leads and Contacts. To send emails/automated programs based on information in any other object, including Campaigns, we have to create a report in Salesforce and then bring in the results to ActOn. It makes things pretty complicated, but we're working through it.
- The onboarding process. I had personal attention from my CSM and access to a "bat line" that I could call anytime I needed a quick answer. Act-On University, their comprehensive support site/forum, is so thorough and has clear instructions for every process. I've never had such a pleasant experience learning new software as I did with Act-On. I felt incredibly supported!
- The software itself is intuitive, simple, and easy to use. Every time I think of a feature I wish it had, I do a quick search in the help (aka Act-On University, which is incredible), and turns out, it DOES do that! I have been delighted over and over again.
- The automation features are wonderful; it's simple to create an automated program with their drag/drop interface.
- The integration with Salesforce is clean, but the process of adding information from SFDC to my lists in Act-On could be clearer. I struggled for the first few weeks understanding what all I needed to do to include new information from my CRM.
- I loved my CSM, but her schedule was packed so full that I could only get on her calendar once a week. We needed to get up and running really quickly so I ended up having to do a lot of my onboarding myself, which meant I missed some things. We rectified them eventually, but I wish I'd had better access to my CSM in the early days.
- It would be helpful to more easily push subscription information back to my CRM system. We had to do this with a "hack" and it isn't pretty.
- Customer service. Act-on is the leader in client support for training, basic tips and trouble shooting to planning our Act-On strategy. The Act-On team is flexible, friendly, engaged and collaborative.
- Act-On does not over-complicate its offering. It is visually appealing and intuitive. Some platforms are just too complicated to keep on top of. We are a small team with a busy marketing schedule. We do not depend a great deal on online lead generation for our growth, however Act-On is still a good fit for us.
- Trust. No surprises once we had signed our agreement. In fact, our expectations were exceeded.
- Value - price for service.
- Being able to attach images to social posts
- More contemporary templates
Impressed Act-On Rookie
- Assigned Customer Success Manager is available to you to help reach implementation goals, get set up correctly and give expert advice.
- On-demand online courses, webinars and white pages at your fingertips - so much helpful information when you need it!
- The email composer is easy to use and looks professional. Plus they don't advertise themselves on our emails.
A platform for your entire marketing team
- It's been really easy to get started with Act-On! There are great step-by-step guides inside the platform on what you need to do in order to start using the system, and if any of the steps are unclear you can simply go to Act-On University to get a more detailed description.
- So far I've been in contact with my CSM (customer success manager), technical support, the area manager and the creative team and everyone has provided competent and friendly service.
- It's really simple to re-use assets such as forms, emails and landing pages. It saves our team a bunch of time since you almost never need to start over from scratch. To edit the assets is really simple through drag and drop functionality with great flexibility.
- The available reports are quite static, so there is not much you can change. However I do know that this is a function that is more advanced if you go up to the Enterprise version.
- The alerts to sales people could be developed further, at the moment they are mainly based on demographic's of the visitor but I would like to be able to connect them to lists as well.
- The calendar provides a good overview of what has been done, but to fully optimize it I would like to be able to add planned activities. This would give the team a better possibility to plan and coordinate.
Great marketing automation tool with more to offer
We are planning to integrate Act-On with our bespoke CRM system so that we could also use it for lead generation and nurturing as well as sending our proposal emails via Act-On.
- I love the straightforward list management features of Act-On. It is easy to update and manage lists and the fact that segments are 'live' means I do not have to worry about updating individual segments as long as I have an up-to-date master list.
- The use of the email composer could not be easier. With the drag & drop email builder it is really easy to design an email and change the content around if I change my mind.
- I find it useful that we can not just create email templates but also create our forms and landing pages in Act-On, so I do not need a web developer to create a landing page for an offer in my mailer any more.
- Form composer needs improvements as it is not as easy to use as the email and landing page composer at the moment.
- More articles on automated programmes at the Act-On University would be useful.
