Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

We compared Act-On against several different platforms during our evaluation period, including Marketo, Pardot, iContact, and more. This seemed like a middle of the road option for us - we could take a powerful step up from email blasting, but not bite off more than we were ready to handle at that point. Plus, the platform seemed more straightforward, the value more robust, and the customer support much warmer and more personalized. Paresh Patel in particular was so helpful to us during the evaluation process and has remained in contact with us throughout our relationship to make sure we're making the most of our purchase. We constantly pat ourselves on the back for selecting Act-On.

  • Marketo,HubSpot,Pardot
I thoroughly vetted HubSpot and liked what I saw, but had a run in with overly and unnecessarily aggressive sales team and team managers. That ultimately shut the door for good with HubSpot, and had me looking at other options. Thankfully, because I found Act-On - well they found me really - and its easy of use, cost and customer service won me over.

  • Customer Service: Act-On is very easy to use when compared to HubSpot overall. Act-On's customer service is superior to HubSpot, where I was not really treated as a customer. At times with HubSpot, I felt like simply a client number.
  • Webinar Integrations: HubSpot does not have an out-of-the-box integration with GoToMeeting or WebEx. At the time when I tried HubSpot, they had a third-party plugin only for GoToMeeting, but it didn't work properly and you had to pay an additional fee.
  • Two-Way CRM Integration: After trying out HubSpot, I really appreciated the way that Act-On's integration with Salesforce works. With HubSpot, I was getting leads duplicated when I deleted them from one system. Sometimes you do need to delete a lead for one reason or another, but HubSpot didn't allow for this. And even our Sales Team wasn't too happy with this integration. They were happy when we made the switch back to Act-On in this area.
  • Easy-to-Read Data in Salesforce: Act-On's lead information in Salesforce is presented in an "easier to read" format when compared to HubSpot. Act-On also has a timeline view that allows you to see each marketing touch-point since the system began tracking the lead.

  • Marketo,ExactTarget Interactive Marketing Hub
Unfortunately they lacked the customer service in the sale stage and their price was not a flat rate, and the basic models were not enough. Plus no connection to Dynamics CRM at the time of evaluation.

We use multiple platforms for different clients. SharpSpring is great for clients that are new to the content marketing game and haven't had much of a business development / CRM tracking process in place while Act-On has a more robust platform with a larger suite of options. Streamsend and Constant Contact are adequate for email marketing - keeping it simple. They have easier templates and are much more user-friendly, but aren't adequate at integrating web traffic, analytics and lead nurturing data. Cvent was very clunky and I'm thankful I don't have to use that system any longer. That was a system designed for email marketing and lead conversion for events only and I never did get the hang of it.

Act-On allows us to more effectively manage our contact lists and use segments of the lists to send or exclude sending email campaigns. Most importantly, it integrates all the email response activity, as well as website activity, around the contact. So we, can look at a person and better understand their behavior.

Act-On retains the functionality that we needed from a marketing automation program, including our need to integrate with our sales department's CRM (salesforce), while at the same time being more affordable than other options we have explored. Because everything is so easy to manage, we have kept Act-On as we've grown.

We've gone through Constant Contact, Mail Chimp, Survey Monkey and some others. Mostly we found the other products weren't intuitive as far as designing templates the way we wanted them to look, but without a having an actual designer on staff.

For the features we needed and the price point, Act-On was the perfect selection for our organization. We have been very pleased with the functionality we get from the tools and believe that this was the right decision based on our level of commitment to the tool.

Act-On has better support and CRM integration with almost identical functionality compared to all the marketing automation platforms I've used. The UI is not as pretty, but who cares about how a product looks when it does what it's supposed to?

The Act-On decision was made by my predecessor, so I can't provide a reason for why it was selected. Although, as I stated earlier, it is a reasonable solution for small business. Even though Eloqua is a far more powerful platform (it's a true marketing platform), it would have been too big for the size of business.

While all of the above are great products, I selected Act-On for a host of reasons. One being how easy it was to see the product and get a feel for how it would fit within our business. When we started with Act-On it was much smaller, and has since grown. I still get the same one-on-one feeling from them and they continue to improve their product. Another reason, was pricing. We got all of the features we needed without having to pay more for certain features. I didn't get that with some of the other companies we spoke to. The Act-On price fit within our budget and we got what we feel is a good product.

Marketo, Pardot and ExactTarget. ExactTarget didn't have the features we needed, Marketo had more than we needed and a much higher price, and Pardot was a pretty good comparison - their UI was a little more slick, but Act-On was easier to use and the core functions were better.

Hubspot.

Hubspot is generally more expensive but barriers to entry are higher, even beyond pricing. Training costs, for example, are much higher.

Also, we use a client version of Act-On called "Instances". This means that we can share the product with customers who do not have to actually buy the product. They essentially use our product and we can manage all accounts centrally from our instance. Hubspot does not have this kind of agency version. If we were using the Hubspot platform, out customers would have to also purchase the product. This introduces too much friction into the relationship.. With Ac-On, we don't need to even discuss software tools. we can immediately start talking about marketing campaigns.
