Act-On is an easy system to implement, learn, and use. They offer extensive training and onboarding to get you up and running in a very short period of time. Some of the other options like Marketo are extremely robust, and at the time seemed to be overkill for our small company. Act-On's pricing is also very reasonable, and we didn't have to sign up for a 12 month contract. This made us feel at ease about trying the platform. Some of the other platforms that provide a seamless integration with our e-commerce CMS (Magento) may be needed in the future.

I run a firm that specializes in marketing automation as a managed service. Because of this I have had the opportunity of using the vast majority of the tools available. I'm Hubspot certified, Optify certified (R.I.P.) and Act-on certified. I have used Pardot, Marketo and Infusionsoft in great detail (on behalf of my Clients) and have some cursory knowledge of Leadformix and Eloqua. If you're looking for a marketing automation tool, allow me to save you an immense amount of time:
Act-on.

I've used MailChimp and Constant Contact (both on lower level versions, not the more robust enterprise versions). I've evaluated Marketo.

The former two are not full service automation, but I would prefer them over Act-On solely for email services. I'd love Marketo, but I wasn't the decision maker when we implemented Act-On. Also, from what I've heard it's a great deal more expensive than Act-On.

Price was definitely better, but the ease of use sold us on the product. It also provided just the functionality we wanted without making it complicated to use. We also liked their social media integration abilities and how easy it was to create landing pages and tracking codes.

Exact Target, Marketo, HubSpot, and Genius were some of the platforms we explored. We chose Act-On because they offered the same capabilities as their competitors at one-third the cost, with no extra fees or charges. We were extremely impressed with the level of Salesforce integration and the ability to customize so much of system to our needs.

We went with Act-On since it offered best price/performance.

We actually liked Pardot the best, because it allowed for more customization, but it was double the price which was out of the question. The basic functionality was very similar, and it was not worth paying so much extra. Marketo was out of our price range. ConstantContact is a simple bulk email tool and didnt do what we needed in terms of segmentation and email marketing sophistication.

Another key advantage of Act-On is that integration with SFDC was straightforward.

Along with Act-On, we looked at Marketo, and Eloqua. We picked Act-on due to pricing and also because it was a better fit for the size of our business.

Were a small company, and Marketo and Eloqua are designed for larger projects . we are not trying to reach very large numbers of people; Out challenge is to identify prospects and push them through the funnel faster. For us, it's all about lead scoring. Giving demos to unqualified prospect is costly. Act-On has the right funcionality to solve this problem at a reasonable price.

We really didn't give anything up by going with a more SMB-oriented system. The problem was, surprisingly the opposite of that. Act-on turned out to be capable of more that we at first realized. We found out product capabilities only after we had started using the software, which was in itself problematic.
