Even though Act-On isn’t the easiest platform to understand, it’s still easier than Marketo and has more features for marketing/sales than Constant Contact.

The UI of Act-On was the main reason we decided to purchase Act-On as opposed to Marketo or ClickDimensions. Even though Marketo seems to be the most robust tool, with the most capabilities, many of these were add-on's or customization's that came with additional costs. Act-On support also seemed to be the best out of the 3 products we reviewed.

For a sales department, Act-on doesn't have many of the core functions of either ToutApp or Yesware.

Act-on is really a marketing tool that has bolted on a few features so that it can be sold as a tool for both marketing and sales. It was purchased by marketing without much input from sales.

When our contract was running out, we were exploring all options. We looked at Pardot as the other option. Ultimately, we stayed with Act-On for three reasons. 1) The customer support is a slam dunk in Act-On's favor. In fact, I'm willing to bet there's not another marketing automation platform that rivals Act-On's customer support team. 2) Email marketing. For us targeting a niche audience the fact that certain emails would force us our account to get suspended while it was evaluated was a huge deal breaker. We can't afford for our email & account to be suspended. 3) We just share a common mission and culture with Act-On. We make it a point to work only with companies that share common missions. We see Act-On as a business and brand that we'd like to have a long-term relationship with. When adding all of these factors, it was clear that continuing work with Act-On made sense, in terms of dollars and cent, ROI, mission, and partnership.

HubSpot - Great templates for email and landing pages. Fantastic for targeted content if you have a large amount of content. Free CMS. Very good sales people promise a lot. But for our test experience, the service support did not stand up to Act-On. And our HubSpot testing indicated that costs would be hard to control as the help desk was of little help with basic problems - always handing us over to consultants who charge for support. The free CMS seemed like a no-brainer in comparisons but we became concerned that if we used HubSpot as our CMS, we may struggle to disentangle ourselves if we needed to in the future. Act-On is not as sophisticated as HubSpot. But for support - which you will need unless you are an experienced platform user - it is critical to our success. It also comes down to how much time you have to learn the system you have chosen - you only get out what you put in. Act-On is simpler and a better fit for our smaller team.

We chose Act-On because it was by far the easiest to use and has a streamlined interface. It's the only one I looked at and wanted to jump in and start using. It's also a bargain compared to similar solutions.

We were actually first leaning towards HubSpot, however they couldn't agree to our standard Code of Conduct (as a principle they never do) and since we have some strict purchasing routines that includes the supplier signing our CoC we were unable to go through with the deal. In the end we chose between Pardot and Act-On, and since we don't have Salesforce as a CRM many of the benefits with Pardot could not be realised for us. An important difference was also that Act-On had more easy to mange functions for dynamic content which we had as an important criteria.

I only used Pardot for a short time, but became really frustrated with their customer service. Having to wait 24 hours for an answer severely impaired my ability to quickly set-up, send and monitor email campaigns.

Act-On has a better user interface and more features. It is also easier to use and the learning curve is much quicker than other tools I have used or evaluated. The reporting is better and the ability to use automated programs is a far cry over other platforms. A great tool overall.

With some of the others we would have to maintain two databases. That wasn't feasible for us. In addition to that, price wise it was more money and I didn't recognize any clear cut features that really forced us to pay that much more for something that wasn't giving us that much more of a benefit.

Act-On does all that other vendors like HubSpot and Marketo promise. With Act-On it is much easier to get started and to be productive. Compared with HubSpot, Marketo and other important vendors, Act-On's pricing and support are big differentiators. Because Act-On wants to be a solution for the mid-market, it is designed for small marketing teams.

I think Act-On is a more easy to use system and companies can get up and running faster and you can handle Act-On with a marketing department of one person. I really like the new UI (user interface) and the modules for creating easy assets (using drag and drop in most cases) and the related automated programs. One thing about Act-On is that new features are constantly coming up as well as new interface and integration upgrades to at least the top 3 CRM systems (Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics and SugarCRM) - something that Pardot is currently not improving.

I didn't specifically select Act-On over the competitors I listed, since I implement these packages for our clients. As I described in other questions though, the difference is clear: Act-On is a great tool for organisations just getting started with marketing automation, who do not want to get overwhelmed with possibilities. The downside of this is that it lacks the finesse these competitors have in their feature packages, once you do want to invest more into these possibilities. It is however what I suspect keeps the price of it relatively low, so business wise, it's a good compromise.

The cost of ownership vs. functionality and ease of use is second to none, add in the speed of implementation and their customer success programs and nothing comes close.

  • Oracle Marketing Cloud - Oracle Cross Channel Marketing to Businesses (Eloqua)
I used Eloqua in my previous role and while it was a great tool I found it very cumbersome and difficult to work with. It's interface was old and it was actually quite a task to get many terms created, designed and aligned as I liked within that tool. Also, the costs for the platform were extremely high. Act-On was a real breath of fresh air for me. Its a much more intuitive interface, and much easier to work with. Although it may not have all of the bells and whistles that some of the bigger players have, it does a lot more than just the basics and gets them right as wel. It also has some cool little innovations of its own as well, the Act-On Anywhere tool is really interesting and valuable, not just to marketers but for sales staff as well. But overall, value for money is much greater with Act-On and that's a key concern for any business.
