I use it to identify and mitigate security holes that need to be patched. Most of the time the patch is all ready to go on A1's end and I just need to approve it being applied. Sometimes I use it to find out who has a program installed and then I use it to uninstall that program from their machines.
  • Windows Updates
  • Patching Software
  • Reporting on software inventory
Cons
  • Lots of times Action1 will identify a program that needs to be patched, but then not really have a path laid out to get that done...so they just remain as they are, but are tagged as such.
  • Really wants to replace the windows update mechanism. Resists (or did at least) you if you try to keep updates as they are and update occasionally from Action1
  • Could develop the scripts section a bit more, looked pretty sparse last time I checked it out.
For my specific scenario, Action1 works pretty well. I'm the sole IT person for a school district with 1500 kids 250 staff 6 schools and special services has a building and central office is its own building, so lots of people, lots of devices, IT Administrator stretched very thin.
Would also work well in a small to medium business (~10-500 employees)
It seems to be pretty scalable, but it's possible it's not meant for larger than 500 employee organizations, I don't know.

I use Action1 to patch all our Windows machines: servers, desktops, and laptops. I also use it for remote deployment, package creation, and remote support.
  • Windows updates/patches
  • Custom package creation
  • View endpoint details
  • Group endpoints
Cons
  • Speed of dashboard
  • Overall GUI refinement
  • Larger script library
Action1 is well suited for Windows patch management, creating and deploying packages, and deploying app updates. It is excellent in helping me create and maintain device inventory. I can easily see what endpoints are online and who is logged in to them. The remote control/remote desktop portion could use some refinement.

Action1 for small teams - way to go

We have a very small IT team, only 2 people, and about 100 devices to manage, both internally in the office and remotely.
To be honest, first usage idea was just as a inventory + easy remote access to the devices.
Later, we started using remote software deploy, patch management (I know it should be the main usage, but for us, it was a collateral bonus), some reporting on disk usage and so on.
  • Easy remote access to devices. That simple. We have some very unskilled users in the field where asking them to access their PC via conventional remote tools like TeamViewer, Anydesk, etc. was always a pain. Now, all they have to do is ensure their PC is online, and we can connect to them.
  • Remote software deploy. Before Action1, we did have some GPOs and scripts, but again - being able to deploy to PCs outside of our office/LAN, is just beautiful. On top of the standard repository, being able to create new packages is very useful for our scenario.
  • Inventory Reporting. Recently we had to identify PCs running old versions of Windows. Can't highlight enough how easy it is.
Cons
  • Even though my team and I use a lot of the remote desktop functionality, I believe it could be further improved in regards to file sharing and perhaps a dedicated client software so we could have even easier/faster access to our endpoints.
For small teams having to deal with significant ammount of devices, I can't express how useful Action1 is. With very small effort, you can easily keep track of your devices, keep them up to date, deploy new software to your users, create recurring reports/alerts and so on.
Initially, the 100 endpoints for free was also a nice touch. Now, even better since they increased to 200. For the forseeable future, I have not to worry about costs and still can't believe it's a full solution for free, not those freeware stuff where what you really desire is behind a cost.

Action1 help us to manage diverse groups of workstations without sacrificing security or performance. Our customers are SMB, so the free version works perfect for that kind of customers. The usage and layout are very easy to understand, so my team does not need to learn complex systems before start working.
  • patch management
  • remote control
  • inventory
Cons
  • workstation performance
  • multitenant scenarios
  • mobile support
Action1 is great on small businesses, but lack some advance remote management features. Some competitor product offer detailed performande information, which is great for diagnosis and support staff.

We use most patch management and software deployment in our organization. We don't need to manually check each device whether it’s updated or not, and now we just login the Action1’s dashboard to check the device list and only spend time on the machine that has not yet updated. Simultaneously, we could perform patch and software installation on many devices in a short time.
  • Provide a friendly and easy-to-use interface to manage all my endpoints
  • Provide automated patch management that can be placed on a schedule. Patch approval is easy and intuitive
  • Scan for available software updates and readily report critical updates
  • Uploading and installing software via the Action1 console is very easy to use
  • The app deployment works very well and fast
Cons
  • I wish the remote connection has a file transfer feature.
  • I hope Action1 will implement DLP and Secure Web Gateway features in the future.
Action1 provides an easy-to-use interface and automates the patching of Windows updates, third-party software, and driver, ensuring continuous patch compliance and security vulnerabilities. Besides, the Remote desktop is very helpful. It allows us the ability to help our colleagues remotely. I don’t need to install the remote application because it is web-based.
