ActiveCampaign has revolutionized our marketing efforts, enhancing campaign performance and efficiency. The automation capabilities streamline customer journeys, enabling personalized communication and boosting conversions. The email marketing tools, with professional templates and segmentation options, empower us to create impactful campaigns. However, using ActiveCampaign for our CRM limits reporting functionality, hindering our analytical needs. Nevertheless, ActiveCampaign remains invaluable for driving marketing performance.

ActiveCampaign has truly revolutionized our marketing, automation but it's missing some robust features preventing us from scaling.

We use ActiveCampaign both on the marketing and fulfillment sides of the business. ActiveCampaign helps us segment and target our audience so that we can market the most relevant programs and offers to each person. We also use ActiveCampaign to deliver digital course content and help our clients stay on schedule with their learning and development. We've just started taking advantage of the SMS capabilities of ActiveCampaign in this regard as well.
  • Makes it easy to set up automation flows without necessarily having the whole thing planned beforehand. Other tools that I have used require more advanced planning done upfront and then you implement all it once. I like that ActiveCampaign allows me to use the platform as part of the planning and iterative process. I don't have to have every email or another message pre-written and created and then inserted into an automation. I can even create empty placeholders and come back later to fill in the content.
  • Email creation is simple and I can duplicate a previous email and edit it very easily without the risk of inadvertently modifying the original.
  • Integrates well with other tools in our tech stack.
  • The CRM is easy to customize in terms of the type of information that we collect, but it is not as easy as I would like to customize the layout and prioritization of the information presented. It's a little clunky to get around a contact record.
  • Reporting needs a massive upgrade. I don't get half of the email performance data that I need to optimize the performance of our campaigns and automation.
  • System uptime isn't terrible, but I get more notifications of system-wide email delivery problems than any other tool I've used in the past.
ActiveCampaign is great for small businesses that need to easily get something built and deployed quickly. It's a simple system to use, but with enough power to grow with your business for quite a while. It has a pretty good number of integrations with other small business marketing tech tools and hopefully, this will expand over time as well. The price point is palatable for a lot of small businesses as well, but once your contact list really starts taking off, you may need a different system.

We use ActiveCampaign for email marketing, marketing automation, and as our CRM. It addresses our need to build our lists, promote our subscriptions and products and track / manage sales.
  • The automation capabilities are robust and capable.
  • The CRM is plenty robust for a company our size.
  • The integration between the CRM and the automation capability is quite good and very useful for us.
  • The interface is not always intuitive and it can be confusing troubleshooting automations that don't always work as they should.
  • Support is spotty. Our account rep is not as responsive as we would like.
  • Information/insight/education on how to use AC better exists but it is hard to find.
I cannot speak for larger companies, but for a smaller company like ours, the automation / CRM native to [ActiveCampaign] work well for us. If you're not already on another CRM and plan to build out your marketing, automation and lead/sale management in one tool, it's worth it.

We're using Active Campaign for clients that cannot afford more comprehensive CRM and automation tools. ActiveCampaign is being used by our marketing team in order to deliver services to our clients that revolve around inbound marketing. It is fairly easy to set up and it allows us to create email marketing automation and track our results. The best part about it is that it's very cheap compared to other solutions, but keep in mind that you'll need several other tools in order to create your campaigns.
  • It's a cheap solution.
  • It integrates well with many other software.
  • It's easy to set up.
  • it has good email automation and personalization options.
  • It doesn't have any landing pages options so you'll need to use additional systems.
  • Reporting system is petty basic and could be much more in-depth.
  • Automations are sometimes limited. You need to plan ahead and make sure you have everything set correctly.
It's a good tool if you're just starting out and want to tap into email marketing and automation systems. However, know that it is fairly limited compared to other CRM systems and you will need additional tools to manage social media, create landing pages, CTAs etc. It's also a good fit for small businesses that are still discovering the power of inbound marketing.

We use ActiveCampaign chiefly as a contact manager and an email campaign platform. We send all of our company's emails out from AC and take notes on clients / group them into lists for easy management. It is our CRM and Marketing Platform. Additionally, we are starting to use the deal features to create sales pipelines for our clients, and it is going very well.
  • Organizing contacts into lists is easy
  • The deals pipelines make sense and are intuitive
  • Seeing a 360 view of a contact is easy and clear
  • The main thing is that it can be clunky and slow. If the software just went faster, my life would be way easier.
  • The drag and drop email builder is hard to use and feels inflexible.
  • Sometimes emails will have strange formatting that doesn't show up on the backend but shows up when I send a test email or real email out. Random font size changes, etc. When I contacted ActiveCampaign, their solution was to literally delete all of my email campaigns and try again. So... not ideal.
If you need to manage clients easily- definitely go with ActiveCampaign. If however, your main thing is emailing people and having really cool email campaigns, a different client is probably better suited. AC really excels on the CRM / deal pipeline side of things. They also have really well-done automations, so if you need lots of automated campaigns or CRM tasks, that will be a good fit.

We help companies with setting up their marketing, based on existing tools or tools that we can suggest. ActiveCampaign is one of the tools we use and suggest, and also some of our clients use it. (So, there is not really one best tool for me, but it depends on the situation.) For marketing automation, we use ActiveCampaign for smaller companies with fewer than 500 contacts. It's easy to use, gets the job done for most of the wishes there are, and you can start at $9 per month. If it's not working, then it won't hit you too hard. We mainly use ActiveCampaign for lead generation, segmentation, automation of emails to the segments, and contact forms in one system.
  • A real clean and complete automation setup
  • Low price, even if you wanna try "marketing automation" to get your feet wet
  • Reports are kinda bland. I wish I could have more information or even build them myself.
  • With no HTML editor, the emails sometimes end up looking like something you don't want to send.
From my experience, ActiveCampaign is better at "email marketing automation" than marketing automation as a whole. So, when your main focus is getting everything out of your mail campaigns and subscribers, this tool is perfect! If you are a small company, or even a bigger one, and want to "experience" marketing automation, ActiveCampaign is a perfect base to start. But if you are bigger and want the complete picture of "marketing automation" with sales management, etc., I would suggest other tools.

We rely on ActiveCampaign for everything from subscription management, to CRM insights, to an automated email and SMS marketing. It's a fantastic platform that has all the automation capabilities we need without getting too convoluted - very simple to implement and train our team to use. One of the greatest benefits we've found when implementing ActiveCampaign for our clients is the great insight that it provides on Lead and Customer interactions, purchase history, and conversion attribution.
  • Revenue attribution reporting.
  • Lead and customer tagging.
  • Would love to see more robust CRM capabilities.
We have found such success in implementing ActiveCampaign for our own agency as well as a number of our clients, that we have become a reseller of the platform. We truly believe in ActiveCampaign's value and capabilities! That being said, we have found that it is best suited when implementing a client that has an external CRM for us to integrate with via API (or native integration). Without a CRM, it becomes much too difficult and even impossible to provide the high-level of reporting that a more robust CRM offers.

We use ActiveCampaign throughout the whole organization for contact management, newsletters, deals, and will soon be using it for landing pages.
  • List segmentation
  • Task follow-up
  • Campaign tracking - when emails are opened/read
  • Updating client on new features and how to use them
  • There is very little contact with [ActiveCampaign] once we are trained
  • Would like to be able to segment by custom fields
  • Would be great to have an integrated webinar system
Good system for tracking customer open rates and when individual emails have been opened, task management, and tracking deals. It's relatively easy to start- especially compared with some of the competitors (especially Click Funnels).

I have been using ActiveCampaign for almost two years. I use it to keep in touch with my clients.
The easy-to-use email builder is effective at creating popping content without the need for high-level skills. I have connected my [ActiveCampaign] account to my WordPress website which allows me to easily grow an email list without the need to input details manually.
  • Help guides on how to use.
  • Easy-to-use email builder.
  • Creating and managing new email lists.
  • Segmenting lists.
  • Funnel building information.
[Active Campaign] is not suited if you are just starting out building email lists. There are free alternatives for small email lists which are just as effective. It is better suited for people/organizations with a growing list who need better options and management functionality.

I'm a very small (soon to be BIG) health coaching company. I used it as well as my web developer over the last year. It was being used to help us set up drip campaigns, send email campaigns, and was starting to be used as a CRM. The goal was to create a funnel to tag clients and put them into list segmentations so we could market from there!
  • I love the drag and drop feature in the drip campaign section
  • I really like the ease of creating good looking emails
  • I liked how easy it was to upload my own media into the email templates
  • I feel like the dashboard, side nav bar is confusing. I don't always remember what each icon takes me to.
  • Theres generally a lot of options on the first page of the platform. I'm not fully sure of the workflows at times.
  • I definitely needed a web developer to help me understand what functions do what. I didn't always know what actions on the backend, reflected what actions on the front end.
It's a LOT more intuitive than Keap. I switched from Keap which was way too far outside my breadth of knowledge. AC not only made it easy to upload my email contacts, make the switch and test emails, but they didn't back me into a contract I couldn't get out of. That's a HUGE plus. As a small business, you just never know what's going to come up and having the option to stop at anytime, is really vital, especially during a global pandemic.

We're using ActiveCampaign for automation emails to send lead magnets and follow-up email campaigns. Also using it to send newsletters out. It addresses problems of manually sending emails and also filtering out bad prospects that waste your time. I'm the only person who uses it at the moment but would teach others to use it too.
  • Automation
  • Customer service
  • Easy to use
  • Bit slow sometimes
  • Calls from your reps to find out how I'm doing are nice but not needed
  • Do you integrate with e-commerce software like Drip? If not, that'd be good.
Not as user-friendly as DRIP and emails keep going to people's SPAM folder. I tried to sort this out with a rep but have been too busy to finish doing this. Could be something I'm doing as I can fix it when using DRIP. I'll look into it again. Cheers.

ActiveCampaign was used for email marketing campaigns and lead nurture. It was effective at segmenting leads and addressing personalized emails to keep leads engaged and meet them where they were at in their buyer's journey.ActiveCampaign did everything we needed it to do except for some minor integrations that required zapier.
  • Segmenting
  • Automated sequences
  • Tagging
  • Complexity
  • Integrations without the need for zapier
  • Funnel visualization
ActiveCampaign is powerful. It is probably one of the most powerful email resources available on the market. That also makes it somewhat complicated and it is definitely at the higher price end of things. The challenge is... if you build things out somewhere else when you're small, then you have to switch everything here when you're big enough. It would be nice if they had lower-tiered options so everything from startups to Fortune 500 companies could use it from start to finish.

Active Campaign is being used by the company executive to write informative emails to attendees of our events. Before and after the event happens. Also, to collect names of those interested in specific events coming up, signing up to get on a 'waitlist'.
  • build campaigns
  • Tagging
  • customer service
  • More explanation as you pick a task for an automation on what that will do for the automation. I made sooooooo many simple mistakes in the beginning that caused quite a few an hours to fix.
  • Emails in campaigns can only be found to 'duplicate' or review by getting into a campaign. Would like to access all emails I have sent from one location in the platform.
  • It's big and complex. I am only using a small percentage of what it offers. Feel like a guppy in the ocean and wonder what I am missing out on. It can be really overwhelming for a small business owner starting out. I wish there was a more basic, entry level to Active Campaign that had just 10 things you can do. The top 10 things you can use the platform for to jumpstart your business. And then add on from there.
My recommendation would depend on the skill and experience of the intended user. Active campaign is great for automations and tagging. Assigning task to contacts as well.

I use ActiveCampaign for two main purposes: to automate communication with prospects and customers who engage with my business. This allows me to deliver free and paid content and to inform them of offers and promotions. to send regular informational content to my community, to stay in touch. It is also a way to understand the level and type of engagement of customers who contact me directly.
  • Email Automation
  • Contact tracking
  • Tagging and segmenting contacts
  • Integration (via Zapier for me)
  • They need to listen to customer requests
  • Old email editor buggy - new one lacks at leas one key feature
  • Since the start of 2023: ethics - doubling the cost for legacy users
I recommend ActiveCampaign based on its capabilities. But, their business ethics took a big tumble in 2023. They have never been good at listening to customers with some simple user requests (like emailing out invoices) being unanswered for several years. But suddenly dropping a 2x price hike on long-term customers in early 2023 was a nasty move. I would say they are still the best service in terms of functionality and their price remains competitive. But I can no longer say I am happy that I am doing business with AC. It feels like they have taken advantage of their customer base who have been loyal for many years, in a grab for cash. So, if you want the best product for the money, go for ActiveCampaign. Their product is excellent and still, I suspect, the best for a business like mine. But do be prepared for minor niggles and concerns that won't get resolved. And, as 2023 has shown, live with the concern that there may be a sudden huge price-hike once you are deeply committed. Sorry AC. I want to love you, but you have hurt me badly. And your customer service people either didn't care or were briefed to pretend they don't see the issue. I can no longer recommend you.

Active Campaign is our primary marketing CRM. We use it for email and SMS campaigns - but have been using it for other tools in data capture and engagement. It is a useful and well rounded CRM primarily focused on e-commerce. Which we tap in to for retention and engagement needs.
  • Campaign Design
  • Audience Creation
  • Automation Building
  • Profile Views
  • Detail Reporting
  • Powerful Segmentation
  • Campaign Testing
I think ActiveCampaign is a strong entry to mid-level marketing automation platform for specific businesses. Those with subscription or e-commerce models. It does all the things you would need from a CRM, well. But falls down in its lack of precision and depth, but this is reflected in its low price point and generalist approach to CRM.

We use ActiveCampaign to better engage our email subscribers and automate many of our email campaigns to ensure things run smoothly. We began using ActiveCampaign primarily for the automated workflow features that are so much more simple to use than other tools we've tried in the past.
  • Automation Workflow
  • Email Capture
  • Email Designer is Clunky and More Difficult that Some Competitors.
  • We saw an immediate drop in open rates compared to the previous tool and ActiveCampaign has not been able to help us know why.
ActiveCampaign is great for automating a lot of email tasks. If you have lots of autoresponders and want to tag users based on their activity within your campaigns, there's no tool better. My biggest concern is that we brought over a list that was getting 20-30% open rates and now we get 1-3% open rates instead. So far, ActiveCampaign's customer support has been unable to help us figure out why this is actually happening.

I have been using it for email marketing purposes for a consulting and coaching business.

I am a solopreneur and I use ActiveCampaign to manage my list, set automations, welcome sequences, and broadcast campaigns.

What it helps me do is keep the list management simple by using tags and a few lists. This way I can have a buyers list and a master list and use a simple tag system to properly identify what the person has purchased and interacted with.

I came from using Mailchimp's free plan and didn't like needing to use different lists for everything because they didn't have any tagging system that could integrate with other platforms
  • The automation triggers and workflow commands available are impressive. Very robust, it's so robust I don't know what's capable of doing since I stick to foundational triggers
  • The tagging system and segmentation approach is convenient since one can create segments from different places
  • I was relatively simple to navigate around the platform. (finding where are the lists, campaigns, automations.
  • I liked the quick ability to search for specific contacts based on status and tags.
  • The email builder is annoying. Very slow at work and it constantly resets the cursor, font type and list continuation. It's one of the most frustrating things about it.
  • I am surprised there isn't an automatic "send to people who haven't opened the last x campaigns" trigger. Other competitors have this feature. Instead, I'm forced to use 2 automations that play the role of tagging after a certain amount of days have passed.
  • While it's a market practice, I think the cost can go up exponentially the more members one has. Maybe I don't understand the process enough but places like sendgrid, MailerLite offer decent automations and 1,000 subscribers free. I know sendgrid charges per email sent but still I find the cost to pay for a list size odd.
  • The overall refresh rate of the platform seems to use a lot of CPU power because it lags every time I switch functions or create new steps. I can hear my fans go to high every time I start doing something. I know my CPU is old but I use other demanding software and I don't have that problem. I think the refresh rate and speed of the platform can be improved.
To me, the strongest value proposition of ActiveCampaign is the tagging system and it's robust automation offering. (I'm using the basic plan).

The automation triggers are very robust and it allows for many solutions to email sequence needs. The tagging system is quick to use and offers the option to manage it all with one list.

It also offers integration with many digital marketing platforms which makes it convenient to seamlessly transfer contact information from one place to another.

The addition of basic landing page building is a plus but the slowness of the builder makes it a little tedious to use at times.

We use it across all my business: online shop, retail sell, newsletters, coupons, appointment forms... ActiveCampaign brings me solutions for all my business needs. I can have the control over our social media at two accounts plus a personal social media. ActiveCampaign has made it all easier, quicker and with a professional form.
  • Marketing campaigns.
  • Collect data securely from user.
  • Organize data.
  • Marketing automations.
  • Campaign design.
  • Fast messaging.
It is well suited for users with a minimal knowledge of digital marketing. If you don't have a minimal knowledge handling can be difficult. Also I need a thumbnail more friendly and also we can customize. Easier to integrate more platforms and more free customs for my automatics campaigns. More integrations for free users.

Active Campaign is being used by Phantom Billstickers for email marketing campaigns. It is being used by the Marketing department only at this stage, but we are looking to extend the CRM piece to the Sales team. The automation functions as a way for us to send engaging and personalized content to customers to encourage them to become repeat customers.
  • Setting up automation is very easy and intuitive.
  • The onboarding process and help from Active Campaign has been amazing and helped solve any issues I have had.
  • Some of the personalization on automation requires too much input of information or assigning when it could be a simple client detail from the client card.
If you have a large customer database and want to send automated emails, then Active Campaign is great.

We use Active Campaign to send out transactional emails based on customer's visits and/or purchases from our site. We currently use this across all departments as it integrates with our marketing team as well to keep our visitors engaged. With all of this data, we are able to ensure that the communications that we send to our customers are targeted and relevant.
  • Contact's journey/interaction with our site and content.
  • Reporting
  • Customer support
  • Reporting on spam reports.
  • Speed of the web interface.
  • The way you access some features are less than logical.
Active Campaign is well suited for those companies that need one interface to do all of their marketing and customer engagement to understand the entire customer experience and the data associated with it. This may not be well suited for those companies that simply need an easy and quick way to send traditional emails.

Currently used in my own as well as my clients businesses.

It saves so much time in sending out marketing especially with the automation recipes, and nurturing prospects.
  • Makes it easy to decide which automation to use when building my own sequence.
  • Made it simple for me to set up a simple campaign for my client.
  • Troubleshooting was fairly simple with the walk-through videos.
  • More diverse templates.
  • Stock image catalogue in-built.
  • Could do with highlighting the best order for setting up campaigns, lists, etc. Sometimes a bit uncertain what to do first.

I am using it for CRM and for email marketing. What I love is that you can have both in one place and target your marketing efforts much more effectively.
  • It allows you to really customize your email marketing approach to make sure that the right people get the right content.
  • It is a very good tool to also do your CRM.
  • I love the potential of automation where you can have different funnels running at the same time. All customized to the specific prospect.
  • I find navigating sometimes a bit cumbersome and I tend to open multiple windows as a result.
  • It takes a bit of tweaking to receive notification about new subscribers. This is not as easy as turning something on or off if I recall correctly.
  • I would love to see a bit more flexibility in the email editor. It is good but it could be better.

I am using ActiveCampaign in my own company as my main marketing channel. Not just for email marketing but for building and growing my client list consistently. • Deleting inactive clients from my lists and keeping them out of my price accountability.
ActiveCampaign is a great tool to use for an automated marketing funnel. Great for onboarding new users to your products and services. For the price, ActiveCampaign has no rivals. It can be used for B2B and B2C email marketing. Integrations with third-party platforms have no price. In my opinion, the best feature of ActiveCampaign is the free pre-made templates you can use and customized—lots of work, time, and troubles saved thanks to that.

I've used ActiveCampaign for one of my two copywriting businesses since 2016, and recently migrated my other business to ActiveCampaign from ConvertKit. As a marketing consultant and copywriter for SaaS and ecommerce businesses, I look for email service platforms that integrate well with store software and other tools. I preferred AC's old interface (I think it changed about a year and a half ago?), which I thought was more intuitive, but regardless, it still offers a MUCH better user experience and much more flexibility of use than ConvertKit.
  • WYSIWIG automations - Easy to map out branching flow logic and If/Then branches.
  • Integrations - Can use API or built-ins to connect with other tools.
  • Preview screen before sending - Nice to have a concise review before hitting Send.
  • Email editor - Can't insert images in-line in a text block, which is absolutely maddening.
  • Email editor's image tool itself is limited, and navigation is not intuitive (mostly hovering over graphic buttons and guessing what they might do).
  • It's not always clear when to use segments vs. groups vs. tags.
  • They insist on branding forms even on paid plans, which they didn't do in the past — If I'm paying $49+/month for a tool, I should be able to turn off the ActiveCampaign branding (I asked and was told I'd need to upgrade to the *next* level. Not cool).
I generally recommend AC to most people looking for an email platform, especially those whose email automation and segmentation needs will grow (e.g. stores, software founders, thought leaders with small teams). Alternatively, for those with lower budgets who need a slightly friendlier UI, I recommend MailChimp. For larger ecommerce stores, I recommend going straight to Klaviyo.
