Adaptive Suite gave us what we needed and fit our use case perfectly. We did short list Host Analytics and they were neck and neck with Adaptive and it was a win/win for us and we would have been successful with either tool. My familiarity with Adaptive, the simplicity of self implementation, the product vision, and the turn around time to get the company up and running made gave Adaptive the edge.

I have used TM1 and Hyperion in the past and I find Adaptive to be cleaner, more flexible, quicker, and more powerful. It is extremely user friendly and intuitive which means the ramp time for a new employee to feel comfortable and competent with the tool is comparably short. It is flexible and quick which means less time is spent doing the nuances of creating and checking formulas, layouts, templates, etc. And above all it works fantastically well, which is the most important part.

Our corporate entity using Hyperion and Adaptive is so much easier. There are several people involved in managing Hyperion where as I am the only one managing Adaptive. The ability of an end user to build a Hyperion report impossible unless you are a superuser. However, in Adaptive I can show any user how to build a report in about 30 minutes. Also when you see the formulas in the report they are usually intuitive if you build your Adaptive model appropriately.

We had meetings with several industry leaders and Adaptive was our choice in the end. We liked IBM and also liked Host Analytics for different reasons. In the end it was the combination of cloud, Excel add-in, Office Connect, Discovery, and cost that would ultimately end up with Adaptive. I've used a few similar BI products and it has become my tool of preference. One of the best things about Adaptive is that they are committed to being the best, and to do that they must evolve and enhance the products different modules, I have seen many updates while using the product and I can say that they are making impressive enhancements on a regular basis. I'm very excited to see where they will be in another year.

We evaluated Host along with Adaptive, and chose Adaptive. We felt Adaptive was a better solution for our needs, which was primarily forecasting, and we thought Adaptive better handled our significant dimensionality all while maintaining a more user friendly interface. Our assumption has proved to be correct as users and executives are happy with the tool.

I used IBM's Cognos TM1 with a previous employer, and although TM1 is powerful, it also requires a lot of IT work. Adaptive can be completely supported and maintained by the finance users who use and implement it. It does not require any IT support or maintenance. The administration of the software is easy, and the setup is fairly simple.

Large Stack Vendors
Compared with financial planning and reporting offerings from IBM Cognos TM1, SAP BPM and Oracle BPM Suite / Hyperion, the Adaptive Suite offers most of the capability but deploys in around 10-30% of the time and provides total cost of ownership savings of over 70%!

Niche Vendors
Compared with niche Corporate Performance Management vendors like Anaplan, arcplan, Corporate Planning, Board, Host Analytics and Calumo, especially for organisations employing 200 or more personnel, the Adaptive Suite offers significant more enterprise class capabilities to drive better, faster planning, reporting and business outcomes. For example, centralised formulae and assumption control, user security and audit trail, process documentation and workflow control, integration to core systems, integrated dashboards and pixel perfect reporting. Most are very hard to deploy using old fashioned client server technologies and are very dependent on restrictive cube based structures, and very hard to deploy for small to medium organisations.

Spreadsheets
Spreadsheet technologies like Microsoft Excel offer great personal productivity capabilities but do not provide enterprise level functionality (e.g. user credential based security, single source of the truth etc.) As a result they are easy to break and hard to maintain and prone to error, and do not offer easy or anywhere near real time consolidation.

The only other product I have used to compare data/financials has been Microsoft Excel. While Excel is a robust application that can compare data and integrate graphs, it does not easily pull in data from our database. Adaptive Discovery already houses our data (cuts out the entry step) and has additional features Excel does not.

I do not have comparisons for this product, other than the budgeting section with Intacct. That system however, is not designed as an FP&A tool, so it is only a bare bones budgeting tool, that would work for smaller organizations, but would not be a manageable solution for the way our group budgets.

Cognos - capabilities are very similar. Cognos does allow a "push-down" (e.g. current rollup of Outside Services is $600k, enter $1mm at the highest level and the additional $400k is spread to the lowest level based on the existing spread).

We also looked at A3 Solutions, Budget Maestro, Halo, Host Analytics, Prophix, Steelwedge and Axiom. A3 Solutions and Axiom made our short list with Adaptive. Axiom's capabilities were very similar to Adaptive, but the cost was more than 2x, so this wasn't a justifiable solution. A3 Solutions felt more like glorified-Excel and didn't really offer the necessary capabilities.

Lower cost (1/3 to 1/2) than the enterprise class applications. Faster development and lower cost of ownership. Better UI and flexibility of design. More efficient storage/database model.

I used extensively the Hyperion Planning tool use the Essbase technology. Adaptive has several easier to use functionalities and does well compared to that tool. Adaptive, is a cloud-based solution which enables easy access not requiring a vpn connection. Also, being cloud-based you are free from trying to acquire the servers needed to implement and then upgrade the system. We give up some flexibility in using Adaptive but too much flexibility can also by just more rope to hang yourself with. If I had a larger team and could dedicate more resources I would likely choose something with more flexibility but for now Adaptive is a great solution.

Adaptive Suit allows you to be as involved as you want to be. People are able to implement Adaptive Suite with little or no consulting for smaller companies. Larger companies may utilize consultants but as a user, it is easy to make changes along the way.

I've implemented Host Analytics at a previous company. We performed an extensive vendor selection process and Adaptive Insights came out on top. Adaptive Insights allowing us to use a demo helped prove the functionality of the software. Since we've started implementation there have not been many "surprises" and certainly no show stoppers. In fact, I've thought of even more ways to use the product beyond traditional planning and reporting. Some other areas we will dive into will be commission processing and reporting, carbon footprint, etc.
