The Adaptive Suite is designed for companies and nonprofits of all sizes to allow finance and management teams to work together to plan, monitor, report on, and analyze financial and operational performance. forecasting & budgeting toolWe were one of the early adopters of Adaptive and have used this for budgeting, forecasting, "what-if" scenarios, business changes, etc. It has been a staple of the business and improved our budgeting and forecasting. It has allowed us to review our business model and test out the possible impacts of changes to our organization or business model. We had been using Excel which worked back when we were a small company, but as we grew, we realized Excel could not scale with us. The Adaptive Suite gave access to the budget owners wherever they were located and created an audited single source of truth.,Accessibility. The tool is accessible to all of our budget owners around the world because it is on the cloud. Easy enough to use. Once we built out the infrastructure, the users had no problems going in and putting in their budgets. Version! I love being able to make as many versions of the budget as I need with a push of the button.,Currencies. I have departments that have individuals from different parts of the world that budget their part or at least their compensation in a different currency. I had to create separate departments for those individuals because you could have multiple currencies in the same department. At the end of the day I need to produce an income statement the way board members look at financials. Meaning grouping things into Sales and Marketing, R&D, and G&A. It should be easier for existing functionality to have an IS template that builds out that way without having to go and custom create it and then maintain that custom report with every change. There are some complexities in the implementation that are probably unavoidable while building the infrastructure. A good implementation team helps you get through it though. Problem is however, in the future, if you make any significant changes you may be purchasing additional hours.,8,NetSuite,, Workfront,5,9Adaptive Planning Budget SubmissionAdaptive Suite is being used across the organisation for budgeting, forecasting and monthly reporting. By removing the reliance on multiple Excel spreadsheets it has enabled the business to spend more time analysing data than inputting. We have reduced our budget cycle from 4-6 months to 4-6 weeks.,Consolidation of cost centres and business units is great. Rollups are instant. Update a cost centre and it will automatically update all levels above it. Formulas and allocations. Keep it simple if you want or work out complicated allocation algorithms. We calculate all our personnel budget information using these. Workflow is a great assistance with monitoring manager responsibilities and seeing where different areas of the business are in the various budgeting and forecasting processes.,Adaptive Suite could do with a report formatting template, rather than relying on Excel. This requires multiple updates due to different headings required on various report versions. If it could be done as a one time update this would be great. Currency adjustments should be able to made to versions where actuals are used for forecasts. At present the actual months used in a forecast can not be adjusted. As our forecasting requirements to our UK parent need to use the same rate YTD this is inconvenient and required workarounds. In the hierarchy there is the ability to enter data into higher levels that overwrite any data below. At present, there is no way to disable data be entered into these levels.,9,Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management,7,9,40,2,We are looking to use it for cash flow. We will include a balance sheet. There is enough similarity to Excel and/or VBA coding that an power Excel user can accomplish most things but there are a few things that I feel I am forced to use a consultant for to get right. I was the only internal resource working on the implementation and conflicting priorities made the process tough. Determining customization for individual portions of the implementation was difficult at times. There are basic sheets, layouts, etc that can be utilized, but a big positive of Adaptive is that it can be customized for individual needs. It's used by the Finance, Sales, Operations and the Executive Team for planning and reporting. Managers are seeing real-time data sooner, and we're able to do a lot more analysis with our data than we ever have before. Our campus does not provide a budgeting tool for finance units other than Excel. As a complex organization comprised of multiple units, we needed a budgeting tool that could provide more stability than Excel, had version controls, and gave us better insight into the budgets, forecasts and metrics of our organization. Since implementing in our department, several other departments on campus have implemented and it is being reviewed as a tool on a much larger scale.,The original reason for wanting to make the switch from Excel to a budgeting tool was to correct the issue of broken formulas in financial reporting. Adaptive Suite provides that kind of security. Another important distinction of Adaptive Suite from Excel is version control. You don't have to be concerned that someone is looking at the wrong version of "the truth" when using Adaptive Suite. There are versions and security you can administer to control that. Financial reporting has been taken from a days to weeks long process down to hours. We have many reports we had to manually update monthly that are now the click of a button in Adaptive Suite.,The formulas in Adaptive Suite are less easy to use than Excel. It's a bit of a different language to have to learn. The language used in the program-levels, dimensions, sheets, etc. is also another language to learn and has to be translated correctly to communicate with others in the organization. We often have trouble with Java in Adaptive Suite. However, I think that is being phased out.,9,8,8Insights into Adaptive InsightsAdaptive Insights is currently used across the entire organization. It is used to help financial planning, budgeting, and reporting. Our organization has a cycle of one annual budget, and a monthly forecast. Adaptive Planning allows us to keep multiple versions active - we can work on budgets and forecasts. We also import actual data and run variance reports between budget and actuals, and compare multiple forecasts. The biggest problem that Adaptive Planning helps us to address is quick review of data. It is easy to import actuals and to keep reports updated.,Formulas are easy to understand and to write. It is helpful to work with a consultant to get started, but once you are started, you can maintain the system on your own. (I work in the finance office, so it is easy to manage, even for non-technical staff.) Ad-hoc reporting is great - the drag and drop feature makes building reports quick. Customer service is excellent.,Discovery could use more flexibility. It would be good to give users access in Adaptive Discovery that is separate from their data access in Adaptive Planning. Also, the headers for time or other areas can't always be changed. (For example, I can't change "2014-2015" to show as "FY2015" on some dashboards.) Adaptive Insights is currently working on this, but Java is frustrating. It seems to break at the most inopportune times. I will be glad when Java is completely removed from the system. Reports are limited to 15,000 rows, which is sometimes too small.,8,IBM Cognos TM1 and Prophix,9,8Try Adaptive!We are currently using the planning software to plan for the entire company, but the software itself is only being utilized by the financial planning team. We are transitioning from using Excel for budget/forecasting to Adaptive Planning. Can scale to the business, but still allows you to drill down into transaction detail when integrated with NetSuite. Reporting is great. Very useful and informative.,Notes in dashboards. Data Integration

So, we are directly connected to our GL system NetSuite. The integration is great. We do some flat file uploading but minimally at this point. I have found that as long as we are using fairly standard fields on both side of the integration we have almost no problems. I have not tried any other data integrations that are available.

Data Integration

We are still working through our connector implementation to our ERP system. However, importing flat files with year to date general ledger data for the current year as well as the prior two years has been very simple.

Data Integration


My specific rating is related to our automated connector between Great Plains and Adaptive. We went through a implementation project with two Adaptive representatives. Our implementation was not clean-cut, but I had a great experience with both consultants.

With the connector implemented, we have a nightly load of actuals scheduled, so I have updated financials when I get to the office. If I need to manually run the connector for updates during the day, the entire load takes about 10 minutes, so this is not prohibitive.

As a comparison, before the connector, it would take almost a full day to pull all 8 instances out of Great Plains, consolidate the data, manipulate the data, load the data and tie the data out. This has saved me a significant amount of time and make our reporting much more flexible and real-time.

Data Integration

It is easy to bring data into Adaptive Suite, after setting up the mapping process. Data can be brought in very easily from a flat file. Any type of data can be loaded from ledger to transactions, to statistics and detailed line items to build sales and costing models.

Data Integration

We've had help from a consultant in setting up our data sources. I don't think it was something we could have done on our own. That being said, it has been a good experience, and we have been able to bring in data quickly. We bring in data from two sources: our HR system and our general ledger.
