Adaptive is great for budgeting and forecasting and playing with various scenarios through different budget versions. It is also great for variance reporting. It is not so great for companies that may be making many changes to their organization structure frequently as it does get manual having to sync this to Adaptive.

A growing company and a company that has the desire to streamline financial reporting and enhance there dashboarding can benefit from Adaptive. Though if the company does not have the resources to fully committ to the product and ensure it's success has hope, then it's not something that a company wants to go half way on. The resources expended will pay off but they are critical nonetheless.

We have found that scenario modeling is one of the most valuable features in the Adaptive Suite. This extends to all tools of the suite, from sheets, reporting, and discovery. We also have found great value in rolling forecasts and version comparison. This ability to compare versions has saved a lot of time and improved decision making.

It is very appropriate when using it to create board reports or reports to present to the campus. We use Office Connect to really customize reports in a way that works for us and our viewers.

Adaptive Insight's personnel modeling capability is a key process. The integration of personnel data from the payroll source allows for more detailed personnel tax and benefit calculations. Large data pools with advanced reporting may require more database flexibility. The security access is key in allowing multiple resource collaboration. The use of dimensions and attributes allow for budget calculations to be more consistent.

I believe that Adaptive is a great option for any company/industry. It seems like it would be applicable to most companies- especially with its ease of connecting to various data sources (even Excel).

Here are some key questions to ask during a selection process. Does your solution enable:

  1. Import/Export and Integration with Excel, ERP, CRM and other systems? Are there connectors available? Open source?
  2. Real time consolidation
  3. Collaboration
  4. Process management and Workflow control
  5. Centralised formulae and assumption control
  6. Change management and version control
  7. Driver based planning and Rolling Forecasting
  8. Scenario analysis
  9. Comparative analysis
  10. Drill through to formulae source on plan numbers
  11. Audit trail and strong user security
  12. Copy actual or plan forward and use of copy forward controls (e.g. historic pattern, assumptions)
  13. Drill-down to transaction on actuals
  14. Annotation
  15. Colour alerting
  16. Email alerting
  17. Integrated dashboards
  18. Integrated pixel-perfect reporting
  19. Consolidation management
  20. Ease of deployment and maintenance

Adaptive Suite is very appropriate for multiple users, in multiple locations. Such as where security is important across many departments or many entities to be able to allow the leaders of those departments access to their, and only their information for planning and analysis. It is also great for service organizations, as the personnel planning is outstanding.

From a cost perspective, I find Adaptive being better suited for a smaller user base. I would find it difficult to justify 100-200 users in our organization.

I would also suggest considering implementing an automated connection to the general ledger (either summary or detailed) for actuals. Finally, I would recommend using an Adaptive or 3rd party consultant for the implementation. I learned a great deal from our implementation consultant that I have applied in the use/administration of Adaptive.

I think if you are a SaaS software company, the Adaptive Suite will be very intuitive. I don't know how well suited it is for manufacturing or anything else only because I have not had to implement it for such companies, but it works well for the software industry.

One of the key questions to ask during the selection process is where users can enter comments and how those comments will be printed on the report. So far we have yet to see any significant improvements on this, as users sometimes have difficulty linking the comments printed on reports to the cells, rows or totals.

In my experience, I haven't found any business situations where it can't be used. Can be used effectively with disperse FP&A, Sales organizations, especially if the disparate organizations have different planning and reporting needs. Its process tracking capability is very helpful for large finance organizations to monitor the close, forecast and budgeting processes, among others.

I think it is important to understand the budget owners and their likeliness to go into a software and make changes. It is also very important to understand your chart of accounts and company structure. Adaptive Suite allows for multiple levels and workflow and this can be very helpful during the set up phase.

I believe the software could be built to support any business. Planning can be done in detail or at a high level or a combination of both. I asked to use a hands on demo before I purchased the product. This helped solidifiy Adaptive Suite as a leader in this space for me. Any questions or reservations that I had about the software were answered through building out a demo of our own.

I think integration with other systems is very important when choosing CPM software. If the software doesn't play well with others, it shouldn't be selected. The use of SaaS based services is only increasing and when they connect you are able to harness the power of the best of breed software.

I think that Adaptive is well suited in smaller environments, or deployed in ways that individual instances of Adaptive serve a specific function. I think that the structure can get too complicated and that it can affect performance if you are trying to do too many things with a single model. However, maintaining multiple instances is a good option as they can all feed into each other when you need to consolidate.
