ADP eTime was used to manage all of Grinnell College's student payrolls. I used ADP eTime in multiple departments across the whole organization, including as a Burling Library employee, as a research assistant to a Linguistics professor in the Anthropology Department, and as a security officer for ACE Security. It provides one portal to manage student timecards. This is convenient because many students (myself included) work multiple positions in different departments across the organization, which may or may not have time clocks to be manually punched, and which often have different pay rates. It also creates problems, though, because juggling the different pay codes is confusing, and my direct supervisors could not help with adjusting pay rates or notifying me of these codes, as they did not have access to managing the eTime portal (lots of bureaucracy involved). The interface was also troublesome, and did not work on most browsers.
  • Ability to clock hours without a physical time clock/punchcard -- great for jobs like tutoring, which may not have a central meeting location
  • Ability to clock hours for multiple positions in different departments across an organization -- one paycheck, even though I had multiple supervisors and different pay rates
  • Browser compatibility - would be much more convenient if I could use eTime on the browser of my choice, rather than having to download a compatible browser that I won't use for anything else
  • User interface - Not very visually pleasing, hard to navigate, not intuitive.
  • Complicated/Lots of bureaucracy - difficult to address problems (with historical hours or incorrect pay rates) because the software was too complicated and inconvenient for my immediate supervisors to learn, so all issues for the entire college had to be directed through one individual in the administration. Also, while the ability to log hours for multiple positions on one timecard is convenient in some ways, it also makes these problems more difficult to sort out because it is difficult to retroactively identify which hours were logged for which positions (from a paper ADP pay stub, for example)
Well suited for situations in which individuals may be largely self-monitored and need to log irregular hours for company records. Also well suited for situations in which individuals may hold multiple positions within an organization.
  • Since I was an employee using the software, rather than someone managing the software, I can't say how it compares to other possible solutions. As an individual user it was sometimes convenient and often frustrating, but I'm not sure whether this reflects the experience of my supervisors, the payroll administrator, and/or the College overall.

I have not used other software like ADP eTime, and I did not have a choice in selecting eTime.

In some ways, the flexibility of eTime makes it much more usable than some time card systems. I can log my own hours at my convenience (as long as it is during the pay period), and eTime sends me a reminder email 24 hours before the cut-off for each pay period. I can log hours for multiple positions using particular pay codes, although there is no way for me to save frequently used or "my" pay codes -- adding this feature would be a much-appreciated improvement to eTime's usability. Juggling multiple pay codes within the current system, however, is cumbersome. There can also be problems if an incorrect or overlapping hour is accidentally entered and saved -- certain fields turn red and are difficult to adjust, often requiring the help of a software administrator. Correcting other errors and entering historical hours is extremely difficult, and the software does not work well on some browsers (and it is unattractive when I have been able to get it to work).
  • Logging historical hours or correcting pay rates for hours worked during past pay periods

We use eTime as a way of recording/logging our hours worked which is billable to a specific project/client. Since we are an offshoring company, we consider our onshore counterparts as clients and most of the time we serve different projects from different onshore departments hence the need to track our hours to fairly and accurately charge our clients onshore.
  • It can be integrated to an ERP system
  • Support is great
  • Easy to learn time management solution
  • Monthly view could be a great addition
It is well suited for an Outsourcing business. This type of business has a lot of clients to serve and most of the time consultants serve multiple different clients, eTime suits this kind of setup since it can aid on the accuracy of billing clients for hours rendered by consultants to them.
  • It can be tool to easily track employee productivity
  • Good relationship with clients since billing is more accurate and clearly supported
  • Can aid to a more efficient payroll processing
From day 1 of deployment of ADP eTime, we had no problem with it. Employees find it easy to learn. It serves its purpose and just the tool needed for easy and efficient processing of billable hours.
Support is quick and helpful
Had not experienced using other platforms than ADP eTime.
