Adroll has boosted our remarketing efforts across the whole company due to it's ease of use and quick set up. The easy set up and metrics make it simple to explain to marketing teams, and track and show results.
  • It has easy set up, you can have a campaign set up in minutes.
  • The metrics are easy to read and provide the information we're looking for.
  • The support team have been helpful and responsive.
Cons
  • Their invoicing process can be confusing. The invoices do not provide enough information, such as an itemized list of the amount spent on each campaign in that invoice, which campaigns are included in the billed invoice, and a date range.
  • Editing campaigns (dates, budget, etc) can be difficult once a campaign has started.
  • The "campaigns purchased" vs. "deliveries billed" invoices can get confusing at times.
The main hurdle is web traffic. If a new site is launched it likely wont have enough web traffic to make a remarketing campaign effective.
  • Has streamlined our remarketing efforts.
  • Has shown how effective remarketing can be in some cases and how ineffective it can be in others.
  • Overall it has had a positive effect and fulfills a need.
  • Google remarketing
The adroll interface is easier to use and more clear. The metrics are also more clear.
We'll be renewing because we have seen positive results including increased web traffic and direct sales from our campaigns.
  • Implemented in-house
They have helped us solve problems, and have been available when we've had questions. They've also helped us optimize campaigns and improve our overall use of the product.
No
I can describe two times. We had an ad that was rejected by Facebook and they immediately contacted us and gave us tip and a great tool to help us improve our ad, and get it accepted by Facebook. We had recently set up a campaign and forgot a step, instead of just letting it go and having us discover it later, they set up the missing step for us to make it a quick and easy process.
  • Setting up a campaign.
  • Checking the status of a campaign.
  • Reviewing the campaign metrics.
  • Keeping track of invoices.
  • Editing currently running campaigns.
I find most of the functions usable, but can see room for improvement in some areas.

We use AdRoll in our marketing department to retarget visitors to our website who did not complete one of our key forms. The AdRoll banners are used to attract visitors back to our site in hopes of converting them into a lead to pass to our sales department.
  • Simple, easy to use interface and dashboard for reporting on metrics.
  • Easy access to support via a chat button button in the lower right corner of the screen.
  • Uploading artwork is simple, just drag and drop.
Cons
  • Setting up visitor segments can be a bit confusing, each time we need to make changes we have to reach out to our AdRoll rep.
  • Needs more integrations. Would like to integrate AdRoll with Pardot and possibly our CRM.
  • I would like our AdRoll rep to reach out to us more often to check in, help with things, or offer best practices to help us get the most out of their solution.
We've only ever used AdRoll for retargeting and been happy with their product and the results. Companies should clearly test a few similar products and decide what they need and if the product does that. AdRoll is well suited for us.

  • We don't measure the success of AdRoll by money, but rather traffic to our site. More traffic is a success and we receive more traffic because of AdRoll.

AdRoll: A retargeting platform that can be used as a supplement to traditional channels

We use AdRoll as a display retargeting platform for a few clients at our agency. We use it to supplement the retargeting capabilities of other advertising networks like Facebook Ads, Google Ads, and Microsoft Ads. We use it on the paid marketing side of things, and it fits in well with our other paid media channels.
  • Variety of advertising media types and sizes
  • Variety of audiences you can choose from to advertise to
  • The interface is pretty up to date and easy to use
Cons
  • I'm not sure I trust AdRoll's attributed "revenue". It appears to be significantly overcalculating its effectiveness.
  • I find the interface a bit confusing in a few places like if you want to see reporting for specific audiences split out.
  • Switching between editing campaigns and viewing campaign metrics is a bit confusing.
We use AdRoll specifically for retargeting as a supplement to our other display and retargeting channels, as we figure each channel (Google Ads, Facebook Ads, etc) does not cover every potential advertising placement. It is easy to spin up a basic retargeting campaign, but I'm unsure if it's the best platform for more advanced campaigns as the functionality and breadth of placement options appear to be limited compared to bigger platforms.

  • It has positively impacted ROI by providing another channel we can serve our display ads. According to their attribution, it's doing very well.
  • I'm not sure it's been a worthwhile investment though, as the direct traffic from adroll ads is basically 0.
AdRoll has been used by a few of our clients for a long time now, but I'm not sure it has ever proven as valuable as the other advertising platforms. We have continued to use it because it is inexpensive (and because it says it drives a lot of revenue), but it is a minimal investment and we do not actively manage it like we do other channels.
1
AdRoll is used by a client of ours to show retargeting ads to our potential customers. They supplement our Google and Facebook ads by running on a network that those platforms may not be able to reach. We are able to identify multiple segments of our funnel to retarget and are able to show each funnel segment different ads.
1
Running AdRoll campaigns requires at least a basic knowledge of advertising platforms and an understanding of your advertising goals and tactics. Being able to select audiences, upload ads, and manage the bids and budgets is crucial to performing well. You would need to have direct communication with the stakeholders at your company so you can keep up to date on how your campaigns are affecting sales and profitability.
  • Retargeting to potential customers
  • Supplementing the the advertising platforms of our other networks like Google and Facebook.
  • Being able to target multiple levels of our funnel with specific ads
  • We split our audience across multiple funnel segments and target them with specific ads for each segment
  • We may expand our advertising on AdRoll to more than just retargeting.
We like AdRoll as it's filling a hole in our advertising right now, but it's not our favorite platform for running our online ads. Google and Facebook especially are our favorites, as we can do much more with them than we can with AdRoll, hence the 7 out of 10 rating.
No
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
AdRoll was attractive in the features related to the retargeting audiences we could use. We knew that we wanted to target the people that had been on our website as many times as possible, so AdRoll's ability to do that on top of our other efforts was important in our purchasing decision.
The one factor that might affect our decision in the future is understanding how AdRoll reports on the revenue that is created with its platform. It's hard to know how effective the campaigns are because the View-Through revenue that they report seems incredibly high compared to what our last-click reports show.
  • Implemented in-house
No
  • None, just adding the pixel via Google Tag Manager
Implementation was easy, as all we needed to do was use Google Tag Manager's built in AdRoll tag type and input our client ID and we were up and running. If you're not using Google Tag Manager, I imagine the implementation would be relatively easy as well, as all that's needed is a basic pixel.
No, we did not purchase premium support for AdRoll. We do not use their support enough to need additional coverage than what comes with the platform by default. If we were to expand our usage of AdRoll, we may consider a more advanced package with them so we could work with them to manage the campaigns a bit more than we do now.
No
n/a
We don't use AdRoll support much, but when we have it's been fine, in line with other advertising platforms where it takes a few days maximum to resolve an issue that you have with them. In general though, the platform is very self sufficient and we do not have to use their support much, which is a good thing.
  • Reviewing how each segment of our funnel is performing.
  • Navigate between the different campaigns that we're running.
  • View our campaign performance history and other reporting.
  • Setting up new campaigns
  • Navigating through the settings of existing accounts
Usability for AdRoll is decent, but the interface is a bit tough to navigate when you're trying to identify areas of opportunity or ways you can improve your campaigns. They have some audience definitions, like "High Intent" that are not described, so there is quite a bit of trust required to fully use their platform.

Adroll has definitely met our expectations

We use AdRoll for about 50 customers to retarget to their website visitors. We make sure to use it so that when people visit certain pages on the website, they get specific ads to follow them around. We also do call tracking, contact forms, landing pages and more to ensure we can know what is converting and what is not converting. We try to have at least 2-3 ad groups for each client and account.
  • the retargeting definitely triggers
  • Their design team helps create the ads
  • Customer service is good
Cons
  • Customer service is good, not great. We've been shuffled around a lot
  • The dashboard is sometimes confusing
  • Credit cards often give us issues. Sometimes they reject the cards for no reason
AdRoll is a good product if you are trying to retarget to your website visitors. We have used it effectively to retarget to people who have visited our clients' websites and specific pages within the site. We do not have experience with retargeting based on specific products, but we do with specific services.

AdRoll - Solid platform for display and retargeting across web and Facebook

We have used AdRoll for a variety of purposes, including prospecting and retargeting through the web display and Facebook. It's used primarily by our marketing team. The main business problem it addresses has to do with how we do brand and awareness marketing, and supplement our other marketing efforts, especially with retargeting.
  • Provides a unified interface for running Facebook and web prospecting and retargeting campaigns
  • Very solid reporting tools
  • Excellent and helpful account managers who really help you get the most out of the product
Cons
  • Conversion reporting would be the big one. Some aspects of what they do are obfuscated, so you can't always get the best reporting depending on what channel you're running (web or facebook, retargeting, etc).
  • Better integration with Facebook creative units. Right now it feels like you don't get access to all of the same newer formats and capabilities you get when running with Facebook direct.
  • Better creative management. It can get a bit unwieldy managing many different variations of creative.
It's really well suited to being a central hub for your display campaigns across the web and Facebook.

I'd say that it's perhaps less appropriate if you want to get into the nitty gritty with what's possible with Facebook Direct - for the convenience of AdRoll you do sacrifice some capabilities to do more advanced advertising.

  • On a positive front, we've been able to measure some impact from AdRoll campaigns - we actually did an A/B test to look at how many view-through conversions were recorded for people who saw our ads vs seeing PSA's and saw a significant lift.
  • On a more negative front, the large majority of conversions we've seen through AdRoll have been view through conversions, which has made it more difficult to track which conversions specifically were due to AdRoll, and measuring has been more difficult (although their Enhanced Conversion Tracking helps some, although it only works for a subset of campaigns we run).
  • It's honestly hard to tell what the overall impact has been, as we actually haven't been running with it the past few months, and it's been hard to measure a noticeable decrease in overall signups/volume.
  • Facebook and mediamath
In some ways we've been looking at AdRoll as an alternative to running ads direct with Facebook. The biggest thing AdRoll has going for it is that their own network has reach beyond the Facebook ad network. It also provides a central place to run FB ads and display ads and see performance overall in one place.

It's very good for what it is, but it still misses some features that you get when you run on FB directly.

It seems to compare well to other DSP's/etc. though
