To provide sales with leads weekly or monthly based on their marketing engagement. To analyze the CRM systems like Pardot & Salesforce to create a list of customers for targeted email campaigns.,Though it provides good data blending functionality, the visualization aspect is missing. For visualizing data you need Tableau or Power BI. They have some shortcomings like when reading similar files. The tool figures the datatypes randomly and a integer data type might be read as text, and then the tool is unable to read data. There is a way around this but it's cumbersome. It is also used by our predictive analytics department, but some use is spreading out to our data teams given the user-friendly interface and its ability to handle big chunks of GLM simulation for errors in data. It is also suited for a wide range of ETL things, from data cleansing to general data manipulation that helps answer a client's day-to-day questions. All in all, it's a great tool for working with advanced statistics.,Seamless Data Input (Ingestion): Alteryx is capable of connecting with many data sources, we have used Tableau in cloud-hosted solutions with additional support of OleDB & ODBC connections. Advanced analytics: We have used statistical analytics tools which makes it easy for a user to look at data and provide simple summary statistics, while also having the ability to build advanced regression models. Macros: Just like other tools (e.g. SAS), Alteryx builds a macro. Be it a batch or iterative, it can save loads of efforts for standard and recursive processes. We've built numerous macros and use at least 10+ in every workflow post design so data is handled the same way in every workflow for consistency and cutting down on copy/pastes.,Visualization needs severe improvement if it wants to be up to par from its market competitors like Tableau. Although some form of analytical aptitude is needed, most of it is very user friendly. Embedding R or Python Code is fairly straightforward in Alteryx. This makes it very sophisticated for data analysis and predictive data modelling. Effective mathematical calculations-- which are difficult to code in SQL-- are very easy to write in Alteryx.,Improved Maps/ GeoCoding system for geographical analysis should be there. As we have developed more reports we had strong needs of managing data pipelines in a systematic way. In many cases, ETL processes were managed individually by data developers and analysts and there were issues of report ownership, data consistency, and management issues. We adopted Alteryx and automated two types of processes: ETL processes and Tableau data extract creation. Alteryx provided values in terms of systemized pipeline management and query performance.,Alteryx provides an integrated workflow management environment for data blending, analytics, and reporting. It is also very extensible to be connected to a variety of data connections including major databases (Oracle, etc.), analytics tools (R), and visualization tools such as Tableau through its plugins. Our department used Oracle and Tableau already and it was well integrated with Alteryx. The workflow authoring environment in Desktop is easy to use so that most of the users (if they are a bit skilled data developers or analysts) may not need the training to use its basic functions. Drag and drop interface and icons are intuitive to understand. When running Alteryx workflows, it is easy to monitor and track what's the progress by seeing percentages. It is helpful to balance and manage bandwidths of database servers, especially when to populate large data sets.,Sometimes the desktop version of authoring tool crashes! It's been unstable in the previous versions but gets better. Even if it doesn't crash, it used to be slow or not responding. When running several version of database drivers in local machine or server, it is tricky to set up database connections. Often you have to figure out it by googling the problem and solution. There are not many knowledge bases from Alteryx. Alteryx project file creates .bak file automatically. It is useful to prevent for the purpose of back up, sometimes it's not necessary. We also use it for some internal tools that allow other departments, who may not be as familiar with the product, to run reports and gather data specific to our processes that allow them to more easily do their internal reporting. Alteryx is used for a wide range of things, from data cleansing to general data manipulation that helps answers a client's day-to-day questions, all the way to report automation and "wizarding" that provides clients with their solution(s).,User-friendly interface - the tool structure and general workspace are very easy to pick up on. It is now also being used by the IT department to help join multiple data sources to automate data munging for some standard report generation. The primary business problem Alteryx helps our team with is helping analyst move much more quickly by building data workflows visually instead of creating hundreds to thousands of lines of code to move and prep the same data.,Data ingestion: Alteryx is capable of connecting with a multitude of data sources from SQL databases to cloud-hosted solutions like Salesforce, Tableau, or Google Analytics. Also supports OleDB & ODBC connections. Dynamic data munging: Alteryx has a great variety of processing tools to clean and prep data including: dedupe, formulas, joins, union, sort... Performing these functions really quickly on even moderately equipped laptops or desktops. It's dynamic in that it can easily handle changes in data by allowing extra columns to flow through. Macros: have a process that you are consistently running in separate workflows? Build a macro, be it a batch or iterative, Alteryx can do it. I've built 40-50 macros and use at least 4+ in every workflow I design so data is handled the same way in every workflow for consistency and cutting down on copy/pastes.,I've had issues with the scheduler tool getting frozen or stuck in previous versions. For about the last 2-3 months the latest software version has been much more reliable. Previously I had to restart the Alteryx service on my machine at least once a week, which meant my workflows weren't running while the service had been stuck and data wasn't moving. Some of the connectors, like the Tableau Online connector, should become supported by Alteryx. Alteryx leverages the built in ODBC capabilities of Windows, which means that it's limited by Microsoft's limitations in Windows. Alteryx isn't cloud-native, and thus offers no hybrid cloud, private cloud, or public cloud support without significant jumping through hoops to make it work. Once you get data into it, it's easy to work with, but it's a heavy lift to get there.

Unless there's totally different kinds of datasets, it works with any flat file sheets and is very easy to play with data. If you have files in shared folders the run time depends on the size and speed of accessibility as well, but for most part it works really smooth.

As I stated previously, Alteryx is good for merging data from disparate sources and can run a large set of datasets in a quick time. Its a great tool for an analyst as it saves a lot of time spent on coding and allows functions like join, union at the click of a button. It also allows you to create additional fields in your dataset and perform computations. The only area where it lacks is the visualization perspective.

We have been integrating/connecting our SQL data source to Alteryx where we have many numbers of rows and many tables in our data source. Alteryx can easily run a query to the data source and get me part of the data for a sample workflow, and later, when we want it at a big scale it drags the data into its workflow for analysis. It is very easy for merging and blending your data in these platforms. It hardly takes a few steps.

The tool is very simple and connects ANY data source for input or output. It allows you to simply compile data from multiple sources in multiple ways and ready it for further analysis and/or visualization. We primarily use this as a front-end tool for data visualization in Tableau. I describe it to users as the Excel piece and Tableau as Powerpoint - these 2 work together like peanut butter and jam.

Alteryx can connect to a wide range of data sources like Oracle, DB2, Salesforce, etc. It also has capabilities to extract data from JSON files which makes it very handy. It can also connect to spatial zip files like ESRI shape files, which adds value in the geographical and spatial data analysis as well. The standard formats like Hadoop, Hive, etc are there in the functionalities as well.

Merging data is easiest among any platform I’ve used. The data sources available is broad and I understand Alteryx is constantly adding to the sources of data used by their customers. I particularly like the ability to schedule reports out of Alteryx. Alteryx provides good data connections to most of existing commercial or open source based data sources. Most of the cases it works well based on our experience. It may be needed to provide an enriched knowledge base or online communities to cover troubleshooting and technical solutions from Alteryx. Comparatively, Tableau has very, very strong online resources and active discussions in communities.

That is the best feature according to me. I could use data from a wide range of sources and it was pretty easy to merge all of them which isn't really an easy thing to do. It makes our life a lot easier when the blending capabilities are so easy to manage. Don't have to worry about having only a specific type of data source.
