Alteryx Analytics is a business intelligence and predictive analytics solution. Its tools allow users to perform predictive, statistical, and spatial analytics in a code-free and code-friendly environment.https://media.trustradius.com/product-logos/g4/Hn/PS1KWPS75CFZ.jpegIncredibly Fast and FlexibleI am the sole user of Alteryx at Office Depot and it has become critical to just about everything that I do. In a nutshell, tasks and projects that would take the use of sometimes several programs (GIS, Access, Teradata, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and many hours, if not days to complete, can now be done in many cases using just one program and in a fraction of the time. Alteryx has made me incredibily more productive and efficient at my job. Though I have the only license in the company, there is definitely a huge opportunity for it to be used across the organization.,Spatial analysis in breakneck speed when compared against GIS. Add to that some pretty comprehensive mapping capabilities. My MapInfo Professional GIS is used less and less. The incredible speed at which it reads and processes data (spatial and otherwise). The ability to read and write in a multitude of formats: from Excel, Access tables, Tableau and Teradata to MapInfo, ESRI, Google Earth, etc. The flexibility is awesome. Fantastic customer service with a live expert that answers everytime.,Creating maps can be a challenge sometimes as the process can be time consuming, and depending on the complexity of the map, it can take learning some nuances about the program.,10,,10,1,1,Implemented in-house,10,10,10,10Alteryx: One man's opinion backed by years of experience.Alteryx is used within Development, Analytics and Client Services organizations within our company to handle a variety of business problems. It contributes to our data product development, business intelligence and ETL processes necessary to server our Marketing Service customers. It provides ease of use in both experienced developers hands as well as to analysts with limited data processing education. Data aggregation, model development, spatial analysis and business intelligence all fall within the sweet spots of Alteryx processing.,Alteryx democratizes data and quickly allows analysts the ability to turn data into intelligence. Data exploration can take new depths as users are capable of interrogating larger sets of data in reduced timeframes. Processes timeframes are reduced to fractions of their legacy counterparts. Innovation has been accelerated by using Alteryx to develop quick prototypes that can rapidly be deployed for production use. Similarly, we have used Alteryx to replatform legacy systems. The transition to Alteryx not only reduces the infrastructure requirements, but also places the application/product into a new paradigm for processing, allowing innovative enhancements that were once limited by the legacy system(s). Alteryx is a viral application. We've used Alteryx course training, in-house training, webinars and videos and our user community continues to grow. Alteryx is feature rich and each version of software builds reliably on prior versions. New users quickly come to speed on Alteryx and supoprt requirements for new users is minimal.,Alteryx seeks feedback from the user community. We regularly provide Alteryx with detailed requirements for supporting our data processing needs and Alteryx consistently delivers required functionality in their software updates. Alteryx is rapidly expanding support for advanced analytics and delivery of consumable analytic tools. Alteryx can call other applications if necessary, but can also run R natively. Alteryx has been working both on expanding their delivered modeling toolset as well as enhancing their software to improve the performance of R. While parallel processing is performed, there are times that I'd like to see more of it. Alteryx makes it easy to browse data within modules, but the browse output (tabular) is not readily filterable/sortable. Improvements to the user interface would be welcomed. Alteryx allows users to schedule individual jobs for execution, but doesn't provide advanced scheduling tools to establish workflows where jobs executions have outside dependencies.,10,,10Awe Inspiring Omniscient‎ AlteryxBuxton utilizes Alteryx to automate our processes for building regression models. It is used from everything from variable generation to building models using R and then to implement the final product to our customers. It is used by multiple departments to complete these tasks. It is able to stream line the processes that we do on a daily basis in order to shorten our projected delivery time.,Alteryx is a very versatile program to use. Whether you are formatting data or running complex models it can be efficient and helpful. Alteryx interface is very easy to follow. There is code behind all of the tools but the visual appearance of the tools and process flow allow the user to visually see exactly what is going on behind the scenes. Alteryx can be used by a variety of skill levels. Beginners can benefit greatly from already built modules. Experts can be innovative and provide company wide solutions that will streamline processes and make results more consistent.,Some error messages seem too ambiguous. Granted user error is a major cause of problems, it could still be beneficial to have the error point more closely to the area that is malfunctioning. Reporting tools are difficult at times to get formats exactly fine tuned to the desired output.,10,,10Data blending made easy!I use Alteryx for 99% of my data work at my company. The main reasons are: its incredible speed; user friendly interface; dynamic functionality; and above all its seamless integration with outside data sources and reporting engines. I highly recommend Alteryx for any company that is serious about data.,Speed Usability Integration Functionality Predictive Modeling Blending Spatial,Just keep making it faster and easier to use!,10,,10,We have a few users. But not company wide... yet.,10,10,7Alteryx the leading provider of strategic analytical solutionsAlteryx is the tool of choice for data manipulation. It is being used in departments that have a need to solve complex and custom data processing problems. It solves all problems for the direct mail industry.,Alteryx handles metadata really well. The tools are intuitive in their use. For analytics Alteryx it is a great platform. There are barely any software bugs in the product. The error messages are actually helpful to debug modules. If a load-balancing application is internally developed on top of Alteryx processing nationwide universes can be really fast.,Speed is somewhat lacking. It isn't optimally geared for ETL. Intellisense would be a nice feature There is no version control. The tools could use some more features. More pre-built macros would be nice,9,It gets the job done fast. It lends itself well for people with a less-technical aptitude to understand the data process. It empower the user to come up with any possible solution to a problem.,,10,10,8,Counts & Orders Analytics File Builds,Macros,Alteryx Analytics Gallery R Integration,Yes,Product Usability Product Reputation,I wouldn't, it fulfills business needs.,Implemented in-house,No,8,No,They have never left a question unaswered,Dyanmic tools Alteryx analytics gallery,Large file builds,Yes, but I don't use it,9Great One-Stop Shop for AnalysisWe use Alteryx in a multitude of ways. We use it to generate geo-spatial variables for regression models as well as reporting. We also use Alteryx for internal analysis and data manipulation.,Alteryx is very easy to learn. It's really good at handling very large datasets and allows users the flexibility to manipulate data in many ways. The user support is very helpful for Alteryx. The client services reps are very nice and always helpful when you have questions. The analytic tools have made the software more well rounded as an end to end solution.,The R tools, although a very nice addition, are not easily modifiable so they can be somewhat limited in flexibility. The mapping and graph/charting tools continue to be a drawback for Alteryx. We'd love to use Alteryx as the all in one stop shop solution for analysis, mapping, and reporting but it's maps and charts can't hold a candle to Excel Charts or Mapinfo/ESRI maps. Processing speed is hit or miss depending on the size of what you're running through it. Generally, Alteryx is great at this but in cases where you're needing to process large data on the fly, things can take hours or days to run. This may not be easily resolvable but in much of our investigations, it seems like how Alteryx maybe could handle processing and optimizing the machine it's run on better. For example, a Quad-Core processor machine with 16GB of Ram may only use a quarter of it's threads to run Alteryx processes so we don't realize noticeable speed gains when run large jobs on our power boxes compared to smaller machines.,10,Alteryx has significantly improved employee efficiency. It's helped reduce turnaround time by ~30% already and we expect this to to do more as we leverage more of the tools. Alteryx has also been used to automate repetitive processes to free up employees to focus on more of the analytical tasks. The only negative to the business impact is how licenses are handed. They often expire without notice and can negatively affect clients.,sas,Microsoft Access,SQL,Excel,10give it a chance. It was used by a department. To see the mobile area coverage across an area.,Reads in large amounts of data pretty efficiently; provided it has enough power. Pretty much takes in any format of data and gives the output in the format needed. Easy to learn.Tools are named logically and hence easier to understand. Integrates with SQL pretty well. Helpful Online sites. Good Onsite support. Supports processing of large amounts of data pretty efficiently; again provided machine has enough power.,Variety of Maps provided are not always what the customer wants; so customizable maps would be nice.,8,Better customer satisfaction. More customization when it comes to dealing with data.,8The pros and cons of AlteryxAlteryx is currently used for geospatial data processing an analysis by a team of five within the company. Alteryx allows us to easily address drive time analysis, demographic analysis, and our analyses with geospatial components.,The drag and drop interface is very intuitive allowing users to hit the ground running on this product. Alteryx allows input and output of various data types (.csv, .tab, .shp, .png, .xlsx, .yxdb, etc.) The user is able to "browse' the data along the way unlike some data processing programs.,The map visualization is terrible. If you're planning on outputting presentation worthy maps, Alteryx is not the software for it! The program has glitches - sometimes everything will be created perfectly (data joining as it should, appropriate fields selected, etc), but the program will fail to read in or "update" the workstream and cause errors Though Alteryx is touted as "Big Data" friendly, we have seen those limits reached (billions of records) and been disappointed with run times.,8,,9,7Amazing tool for data analysisWe used Alteryx to analyze and project numbers for multiple markets at once. Alteryx allowed us to create workflows that would have taken hours to complete in other software.,Data blending: It makes SQL, Excel and Access look ancient. User-Friendly: The workflow logos are aesthetically pleasing and easy to understand. Efficiency: The apps take a of the leg work out of the process.,There is a steep learning curve, but nothing they can do about that. It needs to be available on the OS platform! It can become very expensive.,9,,1,Our company kept it contained in the marketing department. Other departments may not understand it.,10,8,7Excellent Data Analysis Tool for Business DecisionsI used Alteryx, as part of a consulting team, to conduct demographic assessment for best ROI on potential new market advertising. We imported existing market penetration data (our customer address data), we assessed the customer demographics based on geocoding and found like demographic markets without market penetration to invest in advertising the product. It was a very successful endeavor. The ROI on these marketing dollars far exceeded other investments.,Alteryx handles data imports very well and give great feedback on the import process. Alteryx is incredibly feature rich. I never found myself unable to manipulate data in the way I had hoped. Alteryx provides great formats for export as well.,You cannot as a novice just play around and get started. The learning curve is very steep, rewarding, but steep. I can't help but wonder if the product would not benefit from a "light" version for less data-mining accustomed business managers.,10,Our assessment was ROI on advertising dollars spent between two markets sets, one honestly chosen based on a the gut choice of a VP, and the other based on the data result from our Alteryx project. The data provided by the Alteryx product resulted in a 20x ROI over the other set.,,1Analytical and geo-spatial tool in one packageAlteryx is being used within a department helping us streamline various analysis cutting the processing time significantly. It works very smoothly with various data formats giving us the opportunity to process millions of data records in a short time. Alteryx does not require programming skills like other similar applications do. Therefore, there is no need to hire programmers to write complex codes in order to get majority of your business reporting solved.,Processing speed; capable of analyzing millions of records in a short time. Data connectivity; capable of connecting various databases/formats. Many pre-built sample modules available for your use that require little of additional time to customize them to your needs.,The reporting capabilities do not have many options for customization. It would be great to have some additional functions for graphing, charting similar to Power Point or Excel. Alteryx geospatial capabilities are great, but are in some way limited. The quality of geospatial reports could have been improved; specifically the mapping part. Having more options to customize the maps and /or add some more of GIS capabilities would be very beneficial. Currently the user has to start Allocate (the demographic part of Alteryx) separately from the Designer part in order to create custom variables. Having an option to build custom variables within the configuration/properties window in the Allocate Append tool (Demographics) would be very helpful.,10,Definitely, an increase in employee efficiency. With the right tools and hardware, Alteryx can reduce the processing time significantly. Automation and/or automatic report scheduling frees up a lot of time that can be used elsewhere. Licensing updates are somewhat not handled easily and quite often create issues with modules to run slowly and/or not being active.,,10Powerful. Easy to learn and use.Alteryx is a strong ETL tool that can be used to manipulate. In the past, I've used the tool to prepare data for custom production teams as well as a member of a custom productions team to meet customer needs. The standardization and geospatial tools are particularly useful.,The geospatial utilities are exceptional for mapping and plotting coordinates for data selection and market campaign planning. It makes data manipulation easy. The easy-to-use interface makes ETL simple, while maintaining the power of the most recognized tools. It's dozens of tools in one package. You'll no longer need to jump from tool to tool, changing layouts and spending time setting up the next process. Instead, you can set it up all at once, in one powerful tool.,Managing input of fixed-width files is a difficulty. The ability to type out the layout, instead of having to manually select column specifications, would be much easier.,8,The ease of use of this tool allows your data team to get off the ground quickly and efficiently.,Microsoft SQL Server,Oracle,8The Ease and Excitement of AlteryxAlteryx was mainly used by the Research department but also by GIS, Data, and IT. The company I worked for was in retail site selection and Alteryx made the job easier, more efficient, and extremely fun. The geo-spacial portion of Alteryx is the main reason why this company has flourished in the last 5 years or so. I highly doubt such a company would be as effective in the retail field without Alteryx.,Alteryx and it's genius "tool" interface makes it possible and extremely easy for colleagues to follow your progress and update personal modules. Very rarely would I have to ask the original creator of a module questions on what exactly they were trying to accomplish. Just follow the tools and, if you have half a brain, you can figure it out easily. Transposing, joining, cross tabbing, and all data manipulation within the program is out of this world easy. Select a few options within the tool and you're done. I use a coding statistical software at my current job and as much as I love the software, transposing in Alteryx is a green circle compared to the double black diamond in my current software. Also, summarizing large data sets is only 2 clicks away compared to 10 or 20 or 50 lines of code. The most impressive thing that Alteryx can do is the Geo-Spatial analyses it allows a user to pull off with minimal effort. Set a radius of 5 miles, 10 minutes drive-time, whatever you'd like, and in 10 seconds you can know how many white people, age 25 to 35 who make over $100,000 live in this certain area. Simply impressive to me.,The company I worked for where I used Alteryx did not have super large data sets and I have a hard time believing that Alteryx could do a transpose on data sets that contain 300 million plus records where I currently work. I know that the software would freeze at times if you were trying to transpose a super large data set (I was transposing ~1 million records when this occurred). Go back to the original tools. The new color coded tool system is ridiculous. I understand that you are trying to be catchy to new users but the old users, my colleagues and I at my other job, were not too happy when the color coded tools came out. Maybe make it possible to switch to the old tools so that current users don't have to relearn the tools. I had a module that I knew like the back of my hand and when the switch came, it took me hours to decode my own module. I would like the ability for Alteryx to be able to handle a field that was both numeric and alpha. Every time I had a field that was both, the formatting which the rendor tool created was completely screwed up.,10,Definitely increased employee efficiency. The company was able to offer more products to better serve the customers. Site selection with a click, more detailed segmentation, etc. The program itself made the job more enjoyable. The ease of the software and also "Lego"-like interface made going to work fun.,SAS Analytics,1Strong in math and science, weak in art and data vizualizationWe used it at my last company for managing data and building predictive models for out clients.,Use SQL for the behind-the scenes Build trade areas Geocode,Mapping output is visually inadequate Doesn't include very many visual output options Limited on mapping customization,6,Faster data processes (appending various data) Non-gis people have been able to to geocode/build trade areas (this is positive and negative) Quickly generate a standardized way of research processes,,5

Alteryx has become integral to my job and to the expectation of upper management. They have now become accustomed to the lightening quick turnaround that Alteryx can provide. Not renewing Alteryx would take our department, and me, back to what would seem like the dark ages. Additionally, Alteryx (the company) is very aggressive in improving and upgrading Alteryx (the program) on a continual basis. It is very clear that they are in constant search for new features, capabilities and improvements. They do not rest on their laurels.

We've developed a working partnership with Alteryx. As an enablement suite, we're continuing to innovate and deliver great products with use of Alteryx in our solutions. Alteryx use expands to our global product development teams and is in use in multiple parts of our organization. Alteryx also delivers Experian demographic content to other clients in their product offering. We're highly likely to renew, but that decision is way above my pay grade.

Without Alteryx our company would cease to function as smoothly as it does. We are one of the top users of this product and are constantly creating new ways in which we can automate processes or create more efficient and useful tools. I plan to increase my skill level to expert one day.

I will likely continue to use Alteryx because it allows quick, customizable data analysis. Often, I will be given a business question, which I might not know how to answer, but after getting into Alteryx, dragging and dropping some tools, I can formulate the answer. At the same time, this is definitely a niche software (not something that would ever be adopted by my entire company), which makes it a bit less appealing to some.

I personally have moved to a different position that does not require data analysis tools. I really enjoyed working with Alteryx and think it is a great tool, but have moved to a different organization and role.

About Alteryx Analytics

Alteryx Analytics is a business intelligence and predictive analytics solution. The vendor's value proposition is that their solution provides analysts with the unique ability to easily prep, blend, and analyze all of their data using a repeatable workflow, then deploy and share analytics at scale for deeper insights in hours, not weeks. According to the vendor, analysts love the Alteryx Analytics platform because they can connect to and cleanse data from data warehouses, cloud applications, spreadsheets, and other sources; easily join this data together, then perform analytics – predictive, statistical, and spatial – using the same intuitive user interface, without writing any code. Additionally, the vendor says thousands of companies and data analysts worldwide rely on Alteryx daily.
