The transcoder has been a very useful infrastructure in transitioning from using several different video players and converting tools to view and play the videos. Basically, freshers were told to record and put up the most important aspect of being a software engineer and there were various formats of the videos and it was very cumbersome to sort and filter based on the file format. This is where Amazon Elastic Transcoder came into the picture and literally saved a lot of time and effort that is productively used elsewhere.
  • converting and playing audio and video files on the go
  • cloud capability
  • speed and reliability
  • The UI/UX can be made a little better, if not redone
  • The animations could be put in place to engage the users
  • some tutorial would help for beginners
It is well suited in a large setting where people use different file formats and various apps to record and transfer their audio or video files across devices. In such scenarios, the transcoder would of real help to eliminate the hassle of converting the files into desired formats for viewing or doing some other analysis.
The transcoder would not be of much use if all the files have the same format and does not need any conversion from their source file formats. It would prove costly and not useful if it's just an additional step that is of no particular use

  • Very Positive in terms of time saving
  • Automation of mundane tasks is a plus
  • fast processing compared other alternatives
  • Azure AI (Cortana)
Amazon Elastic Transcoder is in a league of its own when compared to other alternatives in the market. The most noticeable competitor would be either Microsoft or Adobe or Google. When I had a chance to compare Azure products and Amazon products, the difference is obvious and the experience provided by both the products are very different in terms of user experience and interaction with the application. The cost and availability also were taken into consideration when choosing between the two shortlisted choices. So we went with Amazon's product as it is widely used and has support and maintenance which is basically better than the competition.

We use Amazon Elastic Transcoder to convert customer videos between different formats.
  • Works at scale, you can can transcode a high number of videos at the same time.
  • Supports a good number of formats.
  • Good integration with AWS S3 and other AWS Services.
  • Cannot transcode videos in real time
  • The quality of transcoded videos is average. There are other services that provide better quality output.
  • Slow AWS support
If your entire stack is in AWS. Amazon Elastic Transcoder is easier to integrate into your workflow. As input and output files can be in S3. You can get notifications when your job is complete. If you want real-time transcoding it is not possible with this service.

We use Amazon Elastic Transcoder in our video delivery pipeline. Amazon transcode helps us with video encoding and delivery of multi-format encodes at an excellent price. It is also much faster than other available options in the market. Elastic Transcoder is great at converting our media files to multiple formats and resolutions.
  • Converting between media file types
  • Generating Presets for common jobs
  • Tracking Encoding Jobs
  • Queueing and notifications
  • Amazon Elastic Transcoder requires a fair amount of setup.
Amazon Elastic Transcoder is very well suited for scripted pipelines and handling media file transcoding. It works in the background and is fast. Large media encodes are handled very well.
