AppDynamics is a really stronger competitor in comparison to any other application monitoring tools like New relic, Dynatrace etc. since it's have a unified platform to see every kind of metrics reported by the agent. That's makes AppDynamics one of the best monitoring solution easy to maintain and in case you have any bug customer support is really fast and effective in terms of communication and taking action based on priority of incident.

It is distinguished from these programs because the platform provides visualizations of application processes, showing the interplay between various parts and services. Understanding the architecture of complicated apps and finding their weak spots is greatly aided by this.

  • New Relic and Splunk Application Performance Monitoring (APM)
It differs from these programs because it integrates seamlessly with a wide range of technologies and platforms and has strong integration capabilities, a crucial factor in adapting to different technology stacks.

AppDynamics excels at delivering extensive insights into the performance of apps at the code level. It enables developers to zero in on certain lines of code or modules that are causing performance difficulties, making it possible for more effective debugging and optimization. For all this it differs from these programs that I just mentioned.

It's easy to customize alerts into easy notifications, view everything in a graphical manner, and it's easy to understand. AppDynamics helps us to understand and monitor our network and servers related issues before they cause an impact on our business processes or clients. Overall, this is the best application performance monitoring platform.

I have used Splunk for a short period. It was difficult to connect with the server and it takes much time to connect with the central server but AppDynamics is quite fast in it. Plus the service handlers for Splunk were a little ignorant their response was usually late in AppDynamics we got a great service team that gave us the solution with application bugs and fixes. Overall AppDynamics is more reliable.

Unfortunately, I wasn't in the company when the decision was made, hence can tell just because. What I can tell from my experience, it was not a bad choice and alternatives like New Relic or Datadog provide more or less similar functionality. In most cases the main reasons are costs and preference.

  • SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor and Nagios Core
AppDymanics and Solarwinds was a good products at application and website monitoring. For SQL monitoring AppDymanics was the superior product is it found several queries that were slowing down the server while Solarwinds could not find any issues. The version of Nagios that we tested did not have any proper support other than user forums which was not suitable for a production environment so Nagios was notconsidered.

I have worked on many Cisco applications and I am very much positive about support from Cisco. The same type of support reputation has been maintained by Cisco in the case of AppDynamics, too. The AppDynamics suite itself is a very trustworthy monitoring application that I have seen, and I like the response sync time w.r.t. downtime when it occurs.

Ease of use, the fast pace of the product growth.

Analytics and BiQ is a huge bonus for adding value to Business who ultimately are the owners as they pay for AppDynamics.

Other products can be cumbersome, do not have new features released as often and support in Country is lacking.

AppDynamics is more a graphical representation of data, where as other tools like Splunk shows data in a table format using Query structure. AppDynamics helps is in analyzing system performance, but other tools just help to log the data and send alerts upon manual setting. Using AppDynamics we can use the power of AI and integrate services with other system.

AppDynamics is the legacy product with the most experienced in the APM side of the business. Due to its duration in the market product has evolved and has matured to a certain level that other products have not been reached yet which gives an edge from the branding perspective.

  • SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (npm), SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA), SolarWinds Web Performance Monitor (WPM), Dynatrace and Zabbix
Cisco's AppDynamics solution has been used for several years because it has a low level of complexity for registering alarms, editing dashboards, instrumenting monitoring agents, managing user credentials, and integrating with other systems, stability, and low volume of new versions and features.

AppDynamics is easy to use when compared with Datadog and provide rich user interface. We prefer AppDynamics as it gives more data insight. We can easily install the AppDynamics agent and integrate with application. Also AppDynamics subscription cost was in budget with our organization that result in overall business growth.

We actually have different development teams using both of these tools currently. They are both very good at providing application monitoring. They in some ways have the same flaws. App Dynamics seems very focused on the end-to-end evaluation of the application and New Relic seems more focused on end-user metrics. New Relic is easier to configure but App Dynamics offers more automated monitoring setpoints which is a big plus.

AppDynamics is still a good solution as this is one the earliest tool available in the APM space and people are used to this Application usage. However other products are also doing great as Dynatrace is the biggest competitor since it adds on all the AppDynamics features plus it gives additional information readily available. Now Honeycomb is also rising in terms of SLI and SLO objectives.

I didnt like any of the functionality or the layout this application provided. I saw the growth with AppDynamics and the possible potential mainly because we have visibility to the actual application code. This is one of the best options by far to ensure the vendor fixes bugs in the code.

Before having purchase decision, we went through PoC study and evalute the tools in APM market. I am listing key areas that Appdynamics provided better results.
- Out of the box database performans monitoring features.
- Aggressive pricing strategy
- Platform coverage (Web, Mobile and Desktop application)

AppDynamics is almost the same as New Relic and I would say they both are at the same level. Datadog is infrastructure monitoring and AppDynamics can catch up on this impact.

AppDynamics perfectly does the job and does more. We choose it after a successful POC that showed its efficiency from the trenches.
