Our engineering department has been using this product since 2017 to automate business processes. It's very lightweight, has a low code platform, and is easy to build software applications quickly. Since Appian's adoption, we were able to deliver business functionality so quickly.
  • Appian's GUI design
  • Easy to use Business Process' palettes
  • Easy to navigate within Appian - Admin console, DB, Process Design
Cons
  • Needs more robust functions libraries
  • Third party Java libraries (API) support
  • Support for user defined functions
Appian will be the winner when it comes to process automation that involves various tasks e.g. user, service tasks. Appian will be less suited when it comes to API (Rest/Soap) design that involves various security patterns e.g. Token/API key (OAUTH)

We use Appian to streamline the process for our organization and for our clients and make it more digitalized. Increase turnaround time, efficiency, process orchestration, return on investments, performance, intuitive applications, AI, RPA for [our] clients. We have been using it in all sectors like financial, pharma, government, insurance, life sciences, manufacturing, etc.
  • Low code automation
  • Quarterly upgrades
  • Compatibility on multiple platforms
  • Performance
Cons
  • Easy import of java libraries
Appian is well suited for pretty much all the industries like financial, insurance, banking, etc. One example is to use it in [the] supply chain model of [the] pharma industry with [a] quick turnaround time. Appian is less appropriate for small-scale clients where there is less potential for automation and digitalization.

  • User interface
  • Platform Security
  • Cloud Based
Cons
  • Nothing
  • It's Perfect
  • It provides a lot of inbuilt features which are really helpful.
Appian is best suited for those, where the number of users is not huge. The reason behind this is its cost. We can have an intra-organization app using this platform. We can also develop a backend system in Appian for public apps. For public apps, login & users cost can make it a highly costly app.

Appian is a digital transformation tool in which it streamlines and complement human operations in order to reduce highly manual intensive tasks. It is one of the best Low code base platform and we used it for Intelligent automation and Customer management. Since Power apps was more expensive with less features we used Appian to design apps in HRO processes and automated the contract generation process. It was also used in some of the intelligent automation to extract data elements from PDF documents. It can be enhanced to add functionality like sentiment analysis like we have it in other industry standard tools. Workflow automation is what it is at its best currently.
  • workflow management
  • Low code no code
  • Intelligent case management
  • integration with API
  • Dashboards and reports
Cons
  • More visualisations in the dashboard like Power BI
  • LMS based system like Celonis and certifications
  • AI & ML functionalities
Best suited for intelligent automation, dashboard and report creation, workflow management. Apps creation for various processes.
Less suited for advanced level of automation, AI & ML based analysis like Neural networks, sentiment analysis. Other area of improvement is to add more visualisations and a learning based system with which one can get certified and learn more about the tool.

Hands-on experience in the Appian BPM Suite, along with Level 1 certification from the Appian corporation.
Proficient in Appian application development, process modeling, and user interface. Knowledge and experience in design and development of process model, UI screen design (tempo forms), rules, SAIL (self-assembling interface layer) Interface, Appian records and reports, data management, document management, and expression rules.
  • The best part about Appian is the low code experience and ability to link to a number of other applications for reporting, automation, data entry, and even API integration.
  • Extremely easy to learn and ramp-up other developers.
Cons
  • Database management in cloud solutions seems outdated; I'd like to see more options than MySQL.
  • Process model designers need to be modernized.
It's easy-to-learn and easy-to-use for both developers and end-users. The interface is slick and powerful. Both the Appian product and the implementation team have been an excellent fit for our organization.
