Reviews
(1-25 of 39)ArcGIS Review
- It has allowed the company to maintain and keep certain huge projects up and running for the past 15 years
- There have been no negative impacts
- It saves time with the ease of creating maps and drawings
Trusted Leader
- It has produced much more efficiency over using traditional paper maps
- We can share all our information in an up to date format
- It allows our workers in the field to respond to outages and locate vehicles in real time
ArcGIS is teacher approved!
- Improved general geographical understanding for my students.
- Map manipulation for my students.
- Free for my students.
ArcGIS, I couldn't live without it. Best product in the world
- Increased staff productivity
- Development of a internal tools, enabled staff to do their own work, with out coming to my staff for simple requests
- Implementation of tools, and increased data collection in the field
Not for small business!
- A lot of negative impact due to weak technical support and a lot of time to try to understand the complex method to licensing. (6 months later, we don't have access to all our purchases).
- Too expensive for a small business.
- With our needs, QGIS is more efficient and low cost.
- With 10 years working with ESRI, i'm more productive than QGIS but the fact that this product is a "technical support dependant," this does not meet our needs to be autonomous in a territory with low communication level.
Great software package with many uses
- More modeling/drafting work from clients
- Can take time to use (i.e. more hours charged)
ArcGIS does geography better than anyone else, but not always the fastest or easiest
- ArcGIS has had a positive ROI in that it has made possible many new products.
- ArcGIS has been a negative ROI for analysts not willing to put in the time or effort to make use of the software's most advanced capabilities.
- Positive impact - to see where outpatients live relative to our location but not enough use cases to make a full assessment on ROI.
- Negative impact - we would prefer a geocoding mechanism that is better integrated into our data pipeline for which ArcGIS is ill-suited.
- Fairly expense for one name users, it's difficult to justify a full team expense if we wanted to move in this direction.
A great product for managing geospatial data.
- Supporting clients' projects.
- Great resource for reports and technical documents.
- Great return on investment for the services it offers (although the price could be brought down a bit).
Happy Esri User
- The high availability of training exercises and materials available save valuable faculty time - we don't have to create those materials from scratch.
- The ability to use the software for a wide variety of application spaces gives us maximum flexibility in pursuing extramural funding
- Novel applications developed by our team help facilitate university success
ArcGIS great for data mapping and statistical spatial analysis!
- Significantly decreased time that would have been spent calculating spatial statistics.
- Allowed for quick interpolations so to see what the data looked like spatially. Time saver.
- Created good looking figures for incorporating into peer reviewed journals.
ArcGIS: an incredibly useful, limited-support, field-monopolizing spatial analysis system.
- Better spatial analysis.
- Lots more billable hours spent due to slow processing speed and confusion about processes at times. There is no "help desk" new analysts can easily refer to for troubleshooting or errors, and so you have to spend LOTS of time trying workarounds.
- It has helped us to combine our economic modeling with different geographies...this is definitely impressive to clients.
- Over the years, many problems that would have taken extreme amounts of time were done much more rapidly using ArcGIS than with other manual or software methods.
- The use of routing tools and asset management tools have streamlined and saved a lot of money.
- The use of asset tracking/history has shown trends that led to optimized solutions.
- The only negative would be the initial cost and ongoing maintenance, but over time those should be recovered with the savings from the positives listed above.
My Thoughts on ArcGIS
The world at your fingertips, literally
- Ability to quickly generate demographic data which helps sell advertising campaigns
- Allows us to create and share network maps for our business seamlessly
Robust and comprehensive, but a steep learning curve
- ArcGIS has a lot of different tools we can use to analyze our data in many ways. Makes our workflow more efficient if used correctly.
- It is a specialized program, and only a select few know how to use the tools, but makes the trade more valuable to our clients.
- It's helped us be able to take a large amount of spatial data and display it in a visual way, rather than analyzing it on an excel sheet.
- ArcGIS saves us countless hours of manual paperwork by allowing us to conduct inspections in the field.
- Due to the high upfront costs, the ROI will definitely take longer than other competing products
- The PDF export feature allows us to share our maps with the public while maintaining control of the data associated with the map.
ArcGIS is the most advanced tool for geographic analysis, just make sure that's your main focus before going with it
- ArcGIS is almost assuredly a positive ROI. The software is nicely packaged with a large user base. If you plan on doing geographic analysis and think there could be a boost to your bottom-line by doing geographic analysis, ArcGIS is the first tool I would turn to.
- For some analysts that just want to geocode addresses and plot city, county, or country boundaries, ArcGIS is a negative ROI. There are lots of other tools (free ones) that will accomplish these tasks without investing lots of time and money in ArcGIS. If that's all you're looking for, ArcGIS will turn out to be a negative ROI.
- ArcGIS has been a positive ROI for cases involving customer analytics. The software is great for geofencing customers and finding the most optimal targeting of customers.
ArcGIS- Powerful Mapping and Data Integration Tool
- ArcGIS's superior mapping capabilities allow for the easy production of corporate presentation quality maps. The high quality, in conjunction with moderately easy user experience and the ability to share .mxds (map project), allows multiple users to manipulate features of a map to suit their needs without requiring the map author's help.
- ArcGIS's joining function between tables, shapefiles, and server databases make it a good software tool in enabling cross-department collaboration, information sharing, and data interpretation. This tool is the most easy-to-use within our company for these purposes and is thus frequently used to this end.
- ArcGIS geospatial analysis capabilities allow the user to combine layer attributes in a way that provides insight into corporate planning and decision making on projects.
ArcGIS: consistent and reliable
- I have always used ArcGIS to visually portray my research to my audience.
- It has always yielded positive results, because I use it to back up my hypotheses in order for others who learn differently to fully comprehend the project as a whole, techniques used and results.
- It is a great tool for predicting future implications for certain research projects.
ArcGIS- Jack of all trades but still master of all!
- The figures we can make using ArcGIS look professional and have everything a map is supposed to. They're also highly customizable (color scales, legends, etc) and really take a presentation or report from average to excellent. As a new company, it is extremely important to have quality reports and give our best to current and potential clients.
- Once you have learned the methods for data analysis you use regularly, it can save loads of time compared to previous methods outside of ArcGIS.
- The total time needed to really get comfortable with ArcGIS varies for people. Some get it quickly and some don't. It's a powerful program with lots of capabilities and it can be difficult to figure out without some sort of training (though some people do fine without). It depends on your employees, but for us it has been a great benefit despite training time because it improves our productivity and output much more.
Geographical information system for the planning, analysis, evaluation and development of the territory.
- The use of the ArcGIS tools has allowed a detailed planning and evaluation of the territory represented a saving for the organization because we are more efficient in the use of resources.
- The geo-referencing of data in databases and represented in maps has provided the possibility of having fundamental information for decisions that translate into better profits, and benefits for the company and workers.
- Thanks to ArcGIS the organization is more efficient in the use of resources considering that it plans better the activities and decisions.
ArcGIS changes the way we make images!
- Faster and more efficient sharing of data
- Quicker output of quality images and data displays
- More attractive to potential collaborators
ArcGIS, Complete and functional
- Positive impact on the presentation of projects.
- Positive impact in showing the reality of the territory to affect.
- Positive impact in showing scientific data for making decisions about the territory.
- It has been an excellent investment in the use of ArcGIS for the planning of the work because it was able to be more efficient in the accomplishment of the work, a situation that maximized the profits.
- In the beginning, the contracting of the ArcGIS service represented a negative aspect for the company because it had to pay for the service, such as hiring some people trained for the purpose of dictating a course to the staff, being an element that had not been contemplated.
- Now the organization uses it as a tool for distribution of personnel according to demographic analysis, and population density, represented a tool that helps the company to be more efficient in the performance of their work, actions that result in better performance and profits.
